okay, i know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but i'm looking for people who are on the same page as i am.

i just charted my monthly weight highs and lows for the past two years.  i've lost about 24 pounds over that time; obviously my weight loss has been very gradual.  but last january i quit drinking for 7 weeks and lost 9 pounds.  in the ten months since i started drinking again, i've lost...well, none, really.  i lost about three more, but have gained two of them back.  so i'm going off the booze again tomorrow (first i have to polish off the wine that's in my cupboard;-))

the good new is, i've been able to maintain my weight loss just by moderating my drinking: gain a pound or two, quit for a week - simple.  my eating and activity level fluctuate, but haven't changed in any significant way.

so...anyone want to kick the booze in the interest of a ten-pound loss?

I would love (and need) to join this group.  I tend to enjoy my wine a little too much . . . I can easily polish off a bottle in one sitting (yup thats 4-5 glasses) and dont even need an occasion for it.  I do not drink everyday, but I do about 3-4 days a week.  Over the past 2 years I gained about 30 pounds, and I believe much of it is due to alcohol.  Luckily I was able to drop 15 pounds so far, and I think that quitting drinking can help me get rid of the rest.  My goal is absolutely no drinking during the week, and no more than two glasses on Saturday.

OMG, Julie2385 - you and i are 2 peas in a pod! I can easily polish off a bottle of wine in a sitting and miss it immensely as I have abstained all week long.  I might treat myself to a glass with dinner tonight and a couple over the weekend. Monday means back to abstaining, though!
cnj, crisps are potato chips in the UK.

canvic, are you joining us?
Another question to add to the mix...is there anyone else who smokes?  Aside from eating too much, and drinking too much, one more thing to shorten our lives?  I am new to this forum, but have not seen it mentioned.  I tried to quit from Sept-Dec, and then unhappily added about 8 pounds and continued to smoke! I just wonder if there is anyone out there who managed to quit while trying to diet...
hmmm, not me.  i dodged that bullet.  but i'm sure there are lots around the site - did you search the forums?

YES! I'd love to be apart of this group. The "CAN" in canvic stands for Canada. And it may be stereotyping, but we Canadians enjoy our alcohol.  I like my beer, any color of wine but especially red, and also the occational spirit. When I stopped breast feeding my son, and started drinking again, I gained about 30 lbs over 2 years. Although my eating habits were not perfect, I attribute the majority of that gain to the booze.  So, in the spirit of keeping my resolution to lose weight, i'm trying to control the amount of alcohol intake.

But a glass at dinner can't hurt too much, right??? ;)

Hi Canvic.

I'm sure if i'm going to have my saturday beers, then surely you can have your dinner wine! Is that ok guys?

Welcome to our group :o)

there are no rules here.  oh - except don't invite me to any piss-ups until i get back under 140.

(is piss-ups a canadian thing?  canvic?)
cnjjeanmard. I gave up smoking, and drinking while dieting!

The non drinking lasted 4 months last year, and I have been smoke free for 1 year and 3 days!

Was a lot easier to ditch the ciggies believe it or not, and no, no real weight gain either. I say I gained about 5 lbs in the last year or so!

elttiks - i'm enjoying my glass of wine right now! Yum!

pgeorgian - Can't say that i'm familiar with "piss-ups".  Far too many slangs to type, but getting "pissed" or being "piss tanked" are along the same lines!

I am with you all!  That was one of my new years resolutions, to not drink during the week.  It has been hard, I love my wine at night.  I have been subsituting  sparkling water - lime flavored, (it has slpenda in it).  On new years I drank that with white rum and actually felt great the next morning.  I think the water kept me hydrated and I didnt go overboard.

So all week, no wine, but have not noticed any weight changes. But, at least my wallet has...  15.00 a day times seven... I am saving a ton! LOL

Sorry - we call them crisps. I think you call them potato chips ! x
cnj - I smoke and will not even consider giving up yet however tonight I have had no wine and have smoked far less already !
welcome suzanna!  good to see this thread coming to life.  thanks everyone!

i just weighed in: day 5, and i'm down almost 3 pounds.  at this rate, i'll be allowed to have a drink by next weekend!!

so, aside from boozing ;-) what does everyone do?  for work, for fun, etc.  let's get to know each other.
I'm a Driving Instructor so the only exercise I get is getting out of one car door and into the other ! You would think the stress of the job would help me lose lbs but unfortunately not !
holy, wendy, i would drink GALLONS if i had your job - most of it with my breakfast!

i'm in school right now, doing a master's in social work.  ironically, my thesis is on women who struggle with disordered eating, self harm, and substance abuse.  *smirk*
