alcohol revisited
i just charted my monthly weight highs and lows for the past two years. i've lost about 24 pounds over that time; obviously my weight loss has been very gradual. but last january i quit drinking for 7 weeks and lost 9 pounds. in the ten months since i started drinking again, i've lost...well, none, really. i lost about three more, but have gained two of them back. so i'm going off the booze again tomorrow (first i have to polish off the wine that's in my cupboard;-))
the good new is, i've been able to maintain my weight loss just by moderating my drinking: gain a pound or two, quit for a week - simple. my eating and activity level fluctuate, but haven't changed in any significant way.
so...anyone want to kick the booze in the interest of a ten-pound loss?
HELLO !!!
What has happened to everyone ? Christie - thanks for your comment in my journal.
I have officially made it to half way to my goal today so am celebrating with a glass of red wine this evening.
I have been working very long hours this week so that's my excuse for being missing ... what's everyone else's ? !
hey wendy - yeah, i think our little thread is starting to disintigrate. maybe it's just a summer thing, but we're not keeping up very well.
i was away from the boards for a week and a half while i had company and have had a hard time getting back into it. probably a good thing, given how much work i have to do! i have a couple of projects to do, and i have to revise my research proposal. i'm going to try to get these done by august 8, because i'm an olympics junkie!!
congratulations on getting to your half-way point! that's so exciting! me, i've stopped going backwards, but am still having trouble getting any forward momentum. blah!
Maria - Kenya (have I remembered the name right ?) looks so fit and well ... what an amazing pic !
i have switched from wine to light beer and have lost 40 pounds. (along with exercise and only eating healthy food). it took me a year to take that off. i never gained weight until i started drinking wine.. its nice to see people in the same dilemma that im in..
aahh!
wendy, yes, it's kenya. isn't she fit? i only wish i were as lean and strong as she is!!
sweetheart, good for you! yes, the drinkies add up awfully quickly, as we've all discovered. i've cut way back on beer (saving it for camping and other special occasions), and for summer my drink of choice is vodka and soda with lime. and right now, i'm going for a hike with my lovely dog ;)
we had a good hike, although kenya found part of a rabbit carcass and disappeared, and i met a black bear ;)
Just wanted to stop in and say hi! I miss you all!!! I haven't been very good with the diet! I've been super busy with the whole teacher thing!!! SOOOO wish I could have stuck to it!!! I did have a very good day today though!!! Perfect caloric intake as well as balanced diet. HOPE ALL IS WELL!!!
hey jennie - good to see you!!
Yikes! You met a black bear? Had you been properly introduced? I don't want to meet a bear under any circumstances.
Good to hear from you Jennie! I have been super busy as well. I am taking Lilah to the doc for her 2 yr old check up and to check it out a burn. The mosquitos are fierce down here, and we were at a friends and she used a fogger (looks like a lawn blower, blows this mist out that kills the little bastards) and poor baby walked right into it. Has a 2nd degree burn that covers 1/2 of her calf! I am hoping the doc will give me some burn cream. She is a trooper and it does not seem to bother her as much as it does me!
hey guys... Christi, poor little baby! ouch!
Well I am on a very regimented workout schedule now as my Avon cancer walk is 12 weeks away! I have been walking 3 to 5 miles a night with my neighbors for the past several weeks, so that has been good. The long walks will be coming up on the weekends. I can feel those pounds melting off soon (you hear me, pounds?? Be gone!!)
Maria, I hear bears don't like moth balls so maybe your should put a few in your pocket when you walk... that is scary! I'd freak if I saw one without being in a car (me not the bear) or it being in a cage.
Wendy congradulations on your weight loss, You get the trophy for this group.
Hi all ... I've just come back from a week away and thought I'd have to spend ages catching up but nothing ... where are you all ?
Suzanne - I'm not a star any more - I put 3lbs on whilst I was away - oops ! Oh well, I'm sure I can soon get rid of it again and it was fun while it lasted !
Christie - it was on our news today that there's a big storm heading your way - has it arrived ? Hope you're ok.
Hi! I am still here, albeit not very active on the boards. I have been super busy!
Don't fret about the 3 pounds. When I went on the cruise I gained 5 in 5 days, but lost most of it once I got home. Vacations are to enjoy!!! Where did you go?
The storm actually missed us and hit Houston, where my brother is. Not a bad one, downgraded to a tropical depression, with winds and rain. No big deal around here. We don't get nervous unless it is a hurricane!
I hope everyone is doing well. These last 10 days I have been totally on the wagon to see if that will help my lack of weight loss efforts. I don't notice a change. Of course, this evening I am meeting some old friends I have not seen in ages for drinks and dinner so...
i'm still here, too ;)
i'm trying to get a project done for my research practicum. i want to finish it this week, because i'm an olympics junkie!
other than that, i've been getting some decent hikes in. still gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over and over - dammit!! and trying to figure out what to do with the rest of my summer.
glad to see the two of you!
"other than that, i've been getting some decent hikes in. still gaining and losing the same few pounds over and over and over - dammit!! "
Me too, Maria! I wonder what the hell is up with that??? It is what I have seemed to do for about 4 or 5 months now...I figured if I cut out the booze, that would save a tremendous amount of calories weekly (for me) and that within 10 days I would at least lose a pound. (I mean, c'mon, 1800 calories or more less???) but all I see is .5 difference. CRAP!
Edited to add: It does not help that is has been around 100 degrees here. Miserably hot. You step outside and it saps all the energy right out of you. I am ready for the fall.
aw, see, that does suck. me, when i cut out the booze, it really does fall away. the last week in july i dropped 3.5 pounds. then i went and bought a case of beer. haven't been on the scale for a few days, so not sure where i'm at now, but i suspect i've undone most of that goodness.
but remember in the early spring when i was trying to break 140? that's a distant memory.
Glad to see you're both still here ! I think perseverance is the name of the game with this weight loss ... it will come off when it's ready !
I just went to the cottage for a week Christie ... 1st week off all year. My main hols is at the end of Sept when we go to Orkney and the Highlands of Scotland for 2 weeks. So I need to lose as much weight as I can before then cos I need new clothes desperately.
Glad to see you're working hard Maria ... enjoy the Olympics.
Surpise! It is moi...just checking in...I desperately need to get back on the band wagon. I have been away and just got on the scale and I have gained 4 pounds!
Wendy, how are you doing? Hit the 60 pound mark yet?
I don't know if you guys have heard the news about the latest hurricane, Gustav, but it is headed right in my direction. I am VERY nervous to say the least. I am headed to the store now to stock up on water and batteries before they are all gone.
Hope everyone is doing well!
I've lost 56lbs now Christie ! I'm sure you'll soon lose the 4lbs with a bit of willpower !
Sorry to hear about the impending hurricane - fingers crossed it misses you.
Hope everyone else is ok. Maria - did you enjoy the Olympics ?
