Anyone ever heard of this or tried it. A couple girlfriends of mine went on this diet at their doctor where they went once a week for B12 shots and received a diet plan consisting of mostly protein, vegtables and fruit...and some other supplements but both lost a ton of weight relatively fast.
I've been trying to read more about B12 and it's benefits but wanted to see if anyone else had tried it.
Thanks.
sorry to burst your bubble, but shots and pills and losing weight really fast is only temporary. it doesnt teach you the correct way to exercise, learn portion control, and healthier eating habbits.
Absterry is correct, but I do take B-complex vitamins, and they seem to lift my mood. If you are an emotional eater, and you get happier, you don't reach for the chocolate as much, and your weight loss is more successful. So, indirectly, yes, it helps.
my boss LOVES b-complex vitamins. She swears by them!
Correct. I know that there is no magic pill or shot. Both of my friends used the shots along with healthy eating and plenty of exercise. The B12 shot...or oral pill for that matter, from what I heard can increase metabolism, energy, help with depression and stress and I also read can help with allergies.
I eat healthy and work out. Just down to my last 10-15 pounds and was wondering if anyone found that B12 vitamin gave them a boost.
Thanks again!
When I started dieting a few months ago, I went totally off meat. My Dr was concerned that I would lack B12, alongside protein and iron. I told him what foods I was eating to replace the iron and protein, but needed to supplement the B12. I take a Executive B-complex every day and it gives me a boost (energy wise). I don't think it makes any difference to my weight loss though.
I think I know what your talking about.. down here there is some clinic called "Dr.Bernstien's". You get vitB injections about 3x/week, and live on about 800 calories a day. You loose about 1lb per day.. however the woman i know on this diet has struggled with 60lbs up and down because of it. The shots are very expensive, so she tries to do the "diet" on her own, and will not accept a healthy 2lbs per week loss. She wants to lose 30lbs this month etc. In my opinion these clinics introduce eating disorders. She now starves, then binges, and uses laxatives to purge. It's very unhealthy... and sad because a doctor told her it was the right thing to do.
I am anemic and have to take B12 shots in order to absorb iron. Unfortunately, I had no weight loss in association with the shots.
The YOU is the only easy way for me to lose weight. The closer I stick to it, the less hungry I am and the less food I crave. I have lost 25 pounds on it and now I am three pounds from goal. This is something that I can do for life!
There is probably alot more to it then we think......I don't think that getting a b12 shot is any worse for you then those takeing a b12 pill....it's just another form of the supplament. As for the healthy eating that the dr has them doing along with it ....sounds like the dr is giving them a hand in LEARNING a healthier lifestyle......
I discovered that I had a B12 deficiency this spring (probably because I don't eat a ton of protein) and I had to go to my doctor five days in a row, and then weekly for a month, to get B12 injections. Even getting nine injections (at 1000 mcg each, I believe, which is an extremely high level) didn't make me feel any different or make me lose weight. As far as I know, B12 does not help you lose weight-- if taking it gives you increased energy, it's probably because you were anemic to begin with and it's correcting your low level of energy to a more normal level. I mean, taking a B-vitamin is certainly good for your health, but the diet plan that you describe sounds like that might be the cause of the weight loss. After all, those are all the healthiest foods to eat!
Anyway, that's just my personal experience with B12. :)
The B12 will not help you loose weight. But B12 is absorbed better IM (intra muscular) versus through a vitamin. Infact B12 vitamines have shown to be rather ineffective. B12 helps with the production of making redbood cells, thus, the reason why B12 helps people to feel more entergetic. This is why a lot of athletes take it. Many women are anemic (hemoglobulin levels lower than normal) and a B12 shot may help to rais your Hg levels. Thus it can't hurt to take it. I would recommend it every 2 weeks versus every week. and around 750-1000 units max (about 1 ml)
