Best (I know) types of Alcohol in while trying to lose/maintain weight/live.
I know alcohol slows your metabolism. I know if you have large amounts of weight to lose, is best to stay away. But lets be serious, we all still want to live, not just live. So, my question is this, given beer, wine, hard liquor, etc. what is the best kinds to have if you are going to drink (in moderation)? How much?
Are we talking 1 Miller Lite (96 calories) or 1 glass of wine? Wine vs. light beer? Rum and diet coke?
Honestly, I'd like to lose/maintain and still enjoy a drink now and again (read once or twice a week).
Suggestions? Comments? A chart anywhere?
Well everyone, thanks for the information. Like I said, we all know that drinking (especially excessively) is bad (amongst other things) but it is nice to be able to just relax with friends once in a while.
That said, all of the tips:
- Increase your excercise
- Light beer
- Hard alcohol with diet soda (or tonic)
Are all good suggestions. Thanks again.
As for all of you beer pong champs, well, I cant imagine that calorie count is met when the other team gets that last cup (if your playing by house rules that is) but that should be ok.
Remember, through all this we should live not just live. Should you lapse a day, ok, don't worry, once in a while is fine. Don't rush to the scale or drastically cut your calories to make up, just proceed as normal. Remember that.
I usually drink vodka diet, or vanilla vodka and soda water. Depending on the pour its 60-100 cal per drink.
This week I made mojitos using mint, lemon lime soda water, rum, and a little tiny bit of sweetened lime juice. They were awesome for about 100 cal each, but be careful if you order these out bc they put simple syrup and sprite in them.
WW has a recipe for Mimosas using frozen peaches, peach nectar and sparkling wine. Just one - 1- WW point each.
Vodka, Gin, non spiced rum or Whiskey has 65 calories per 1 oz. Captain Morgan and Crown have tons of sugar and I would bet they have considerably more calories in them.
It took me about two weeks to get used to it but vodka (even cheap vodka) is amazing with soda water and a lime. The key is to not make the drink too strong. if you put one shot in a rocks glass with lots and lots of ice and top it off with soda water and a lime you will be amazed at how refreshing it is. And if it is not good at first let the ice melt a bit and it is even more refreshing than water. I like to drink 40 ounces of water and then drink a vodka soda and have a 12 ounce glass of water between each drink. I can drink ten, get nice and drunk and not have an ounce of hang over because I never end up dehydrated. I usually try and get some work out right away when I wake up to try and completely off set the drinking (mowing and edging the lawn counts!). I know that is a lot of work but for 650 calories I can have 10 vodka sodas and have a really good time. It would be better not to drink but I am confident that my formula for drinking comes pretty close to totally off setting the the bad effect of alcohol. It has worked for me for the past 7 months.
I do not drink Guiness but it turns out that stuff only has 120 calories (or something like that) per can. Now that is shocking.
By keeping portion size of my breakfast, lunch and dinner under control, I still loose weight.
By drinking alcohol, I have not noticed that my metabolism slows down but then I don't drink beer on a daily basis.
If I am going to drink then I drink something that I like and not something that has less calories.
ok, I drink ALOT.
I switched to MGD light.....at 64 cals, it's the best beer. And honestly, it isn't that bad!
Otherwise, Capn n diet!~ like everyone said!
But give MGD light a shot, honestly, there could be worse. It could be ODouls.
You asked about a chart, here is a good one from the Consumer Federation of America.

Cheers!
Mike's hard lemonade light is fantastic as well though...especially when drinking with girls who don't do beer (although you won't have to worry about that)
and just a note, when you use a carbonated mixer or chaser your body absorbs the alcohol faster, which means a higher BAC per drink, just keep that in mind if you are switching over from juices and such for mixers

I'm a coors light girl myself, but really any light beer will be around 100 cals for a bottle

oh man after one mikes hard (prior to that it was one beer and two dry martinis in the course of 3 hours and Im no lightweight) all of my alcohol calories escaped my body....(I was looking at the bright side of course at the time it sucked) NEVER AGAIN. I can't drink smirnoff ice or any of that :(
But I like coors light!!
A wine spritzer is one way to go – I’m not a big wine person myself but 2oz wine and 2oz club soda or diet 7-up is only 1 WW point.
