RE: BC Pills. I was on Dianette/Estelle for about 3 months, and I put on weight, got bloated and found it very very difficult to lose any weight. My mood wasn't good either. Too be fair, I also wasn't exercising or eating well which did contribute.
I have since come off the pill, and have lost weight along with a good diet and exercise.
There are different side effects with each pill for every woman, but if you are concerned ask your doctor to try you on another pill.
I was on the Ortho Tri Cyclen pill for years, and I just got off of it a couple months ago. I noticed no change in my mood/weight.
I was on marvelon. I found that my weight was easier to control when I was on it. I mark it down to hormone control. My skin was beautiful too. If there weren't so many unneeded/undesirable side effects or concerns I would get back on it, but not recommended for women of my age group (40+)
As far as your calorie burn question, going about your daily routine, you should lose weight at 1200 a day. Any extra you burn through esercise is bonus and you might actually think of eating more on exercisse days.

thanks :)
im on triquilar.. maybe I'm PMS'ing .. hence bloating ...lol,
i've been on and off birth control pills for 5 years now. Whenever I am on them, I have a much simpler time controlling appetite and even tend to lose a couple of pounds. Conversely, whenever I am off the pill for any prolonged period of time, I'm like the hungry hungry caterpillar. no snacks are safe.
In addition to weight management, my skin looks great, my mood is better regulated, and my periods are much less frequent, predictable, and much lighter :)
I was on the Ortho Cyclin pill and I gained about 20 lbs .... it made me want to eat all the time and I was hungry a lot... I recently changed to Janell so I'm hoping this will help its a lower dose and I've noticed a change in my appetite as to not being as hungry ... just keep in touch with your doctor... Yaz did not make me gain weight and I actually lost weight on it but that could have been from other factors such as more exercise during that time however I had to stop it because I was having side effects from it..
I guess every person reacts differently to differnt things.
im keeping my fingers crossed and mouth zipped ..
thanks everybody ..helps to talk it out here
Birth control pills = hormone control for me, which allows me to lose/control my weight.

i feel comfy w/ the pill ... cos it helps me be ready or not ready.
but the weight loss is not happening ...
i think u are lucky:)
The pill will not prevent you from losing weight. At most it could make you retain water or have an increase in appetite, but if you were already on the pill before you started trying to lose weight, you'll already be familiar with those factors.

nope... its as new as my calorie control diet ...
If you consume 1200 calories daily you are already going to lose the most weight at the safest pace. While bc pills can mess with your hormones and cause the bloating or cravings or whatever that leads to weightgain, the calories are negligible.
I would say if you are gaining weight or having trouble losing or bloating or whatever, go to your doc and have it switched to another brand. Everyone reacts differently - find the right one for you. (The right one should control your 'hormone effects' and make it easier to lose weight.) (By 'make it easier to lose weight' I mean 'control emotions'. Easier for me as I am an emotional eater.)
I was on Yaz briefly and I was a bloaty, emotional basket case. I have been on Alesse forever and it is perfect.

ive been on the pill for over 2 years and have probably only gained 5 pounds over those years (the weight i am now trying to lose was gained gradually over the past 5 years). i agree with the above people who say that it might make you retain water AT FIRST because after all, its making your body think you are pregnant... but for me the bloating went away before i had even been on it a month.
as to your other question, if you are only eating 1200 calories, you dont have to burn any calories through exercise. however, exercise has other benefits than weight loss of course... so if you DO work out in addition to your 1200 cals, i would suggest eating back the calories you burn. Calorie count has a calculator for this....
I think certian BC pills can make you fat, for example the mini pill made me starving; I would eat a healthful breakfast loaded with protein, fiber, and carbs to be starving again 30 minutes later, it also made me exhausted so if I was laying around stuffing my face than sure I would gain weight. I was on it for a week due to the fact that it made me exhausted and hungry 24/7. So I'm back on the combo pill which never made me gain weight. If you eat 1200 calories, you won't need to burn any excess but, 1200 calories a day sucks and can make your diet very hard to stick with.
twinsmom -- the problem was for me when I was NOT on the bc pill. I found it nearly impossible to lose weight because there were 10 days every month where I had severe PMS symptoms, bloating, craving, illness to the point where I couldn't exercise, severe cramps that would keep me bedridden at least a day every month. So you see -- when I went on bc, my hormones stabilized, I don't even get a period anymore, and the most that happens is that during the last few days of the pill cycle, I bloat slightly (as in maybe 2 pounds at most) and that's it. The mood swings are gone, the physical illness is gone, the cramps, everything. To me, it's a little miracle pill! :) But I realize it's different for everyone!
