Is a 250 calorie deficit enough for my goal?

I'm a 17 year old male, weigh 156 pounds, am 6'1", and would like to get down to around 150. According to myfitnesspal, a 250 calorie deficit for me would be 1990 calories. Do you think this is a big enough deficit for losing half a pound per week??

Bump

Should get you around half pound per week in theory, throw in a tiny extra cardio and you should be alright

Didn't mention your exercise level. To lose 1/2 pound per week, a deficit of 250 cal/day should be fine.

At 6'1" why do you want to weight 150 lbs?  Seems a little on the light side to me.

trying to get abs

Lift heavy things

My son is 17, 6 foot and 147 lbs and as skinny as a rake. He's started weight lifting (he plays a lot of football) and going to the gym to increase his abs etc. He's trying to eat a little more as well. I really don't think you should be cutting back on your calories or you'll disappear!

If you want abs, you probably need to add muscle.  Eat at maintenance or a little over, make sure you are getting enough protein and start a full body lifting program 3 times a week, like New Rules of Lifting or Starting Strength.
