Calorie intake, height, age, weight, activity level?

Quote  |  Reply
Was just wondering what calorie intake everyone was aiming for, along with height, age, weight, and activity level, and if the results you are seeing from this are good?

I am aiming around 1400, I am 5" tall 145 pounds, 33 years old, and I am guessing activity level is light, since I am a stay at home mom, although there are days I don't sit at all? Was just wanting to compare and maybe see if this is good?

I am 22.

5'3 and weigh 203 pounds.

It is suggested that I eat 1250 every day that I don't exercise, as I burn 2000 at a sedentary level. On days that I do exercise I increase my intake between 1300-1500.

I haven't lost any weight YET, but I think I was in starvation mode when I started so hopefully the weight loss will kick in soon.

My metabolism is very slow I think.

I walk and do some light weight training and aerobics, but I get my heart rate up during it.

Hopefully your plan works out well for you, I am sure with time it will show you the results you are looking for.

I'm 20, 5'9 and trying to maintain and tone at 130.  I have my activity level at sedentary for now because I basically just sit around and watch tv all day since I'm done work and not back in school yet.  My sedentary butn is around 1650 so I eat about that, and workout 4-5 times a week at this point.  I'll kick it up to light activity when I go back to school.

I think what you've done is great.  Just make sure you add in your work-outs if you do that, and make up the cals!

good luck!
I am 34yrs old. 5'4" and currently 116 lbs.  I aim for no less than 1200 calories per day.  I have been trying to up my calories to 1400-1500 but it is so hard for me to do after "training" myself to only eat 1200 calories for the last 8 months.  Have I been happy with my results?  Absolutely!  I have gone from 156 to 116 in 8 months and from a size 12/14 to a 2/4. My activity is sedentary since I sit at a desk all day.  I do try to walk or do the elliptical 3-4 times per week.

MALE 6'1''

257LBS

27 YEARS

1500-1700 A DAY

EVERY 4 DAYS I GO OVER BMR, TO STOP MY BODY FROM GOING INTO  "STARVATION MODE" WHICH IS ABOUT 2700 CALORIES.

THIS KEEPS ME AT ABOUT 1000 CALORIES A DAY SHORT OF MY BMR AND EVERY FOURTH DAY JUST OVER EVEN, BY ABOUT 150 CAL.

OVER 2 MONTHS I HAVE STEADILY LOST ABOUT 2-3LBS A WEEK. AND HAVE NO SIGN OF STOPPING AS OF YET. ORIGINAL WEIGHT WAS 281LBS ABOUT 9 WEEKS AGO. WHEN I STARTED THIS PROGRAM. 3 TIMES A WEEK 45-50 MODERATE WEIGHT TRAINING AND 3/4 HOUR CARDIO TWICE A WEEK.
I'm 64, 5'4", and 184 lbs, down from 210 in January. Allowing for a slower metabolism due to age, I try to stay within 1200 to 1400 calories on days when I don't exercise and 1300 to 1500 on days when I do.  I concentrate on balanced menus and healthy, natural foods.  On occassion, about once a month, I will eat more than my maintenance level of 1750. My activity level is sedentary to light due to medical problems (which, even though they are not weight related, are getting better!)
I'm 5'5", 24yrs old, weigh 135, and workout 6 days/ week.  I try to eat 1300-1350 calories/day, and every few days, I go up to 1500.
I usually do an hour total of working out per day, mixing up cardio routines, as well as pilates or ballet; and  then I do a half hour of strength training 3x/week.

So far it seems to be working well; I'm starting to see more muscle tone, and my clothes fit better.  I was at 138 1-2 weeks ago and am working to get down to 128, hopefully, by the end of October.
Well, I just started this program 2 weeks ago and have lost 5 pounds so far.  I am 30 (almost 31) and weigh 188 at 5'8".  I am already toned, lots of muscle.  So, my weight is high considering my body size due to muscle.  I'm low on fat, which is good.  I'd like to lose about 20-25 pounds more, be 160 or so.  I workout 5x a week and burn between 700-900 calories a day.  I have myself set at moderate because of my workout, being up and down at work and running at home.  I am to eat 1750 calories a day but I eat more like 1500-1600 most days and on Saturday's, my "FREE" day, I eat at maintenence.  I hope I'm doing this ok.................

I'm 15, 5'7 and currently weigh 134 lbs. I eat around 12000 calories a day, and workout (treadmill & machines) 6 days a week. I've been doing this only a couple weeks and am already seeing improvement.
sorry i mean 1200 a day.... lol i couldn't eat 12000 if my life depended on it!!
I think there is a 0 that doesn't belong there... Hihihihihihi
I am 5'5", 52 years old and have been eating at right around the calorie level that it will take to maintain my ideal weight of 135#, somewhere between 1800-1900 calories a day.  I have been doing this since I first came to this site the second week of January.  I weighed 209.5# when I started and I now weigh 147.5#.  Check out my profile for the whole story.  I won't have much of a transition to go through since I have been eating at about the same level that I will need to eat for the rest of my life.  Losing 62 pounds in the last 9 months is a pretty good rate.  It went faster at first and has now slowed down, as I have been expecting it to.  I will eventually get there, so I don't really care how long it takes.  I am loving being at the weight that I am and seeing the weight continue to come off.  By eating the way this I am, I know that my body is getting maximum nutrition for losing weight and there is no danger of ever going into starvation mode.  I know that my metabolism is running just as hot as it can and that I will be able to sustain this weight loss once it is complete.  I am moderately active.  I work out/walk/bicycle in fits and starts.  I work by buns off one day (lawn mowing, yard work, etc) working on an outside project, then sit around on the computer for days and do nothing outside.  It varies pretty wildly!

Anyway, that's my story.  Hope you find something in it that you can use.

Hey....Been awhile since I've been to this site but I'm back and more fully motivated!!! I'm 5' 6" ish- current weight 291 BUT last week was 299!!! I started taking the doggies out again in the am for fast pace 30 minute walk with ipod and eating just vegetables at night- not counting any calories.... I know this trend won't keep up but 8 pounds a week is VERY motivating...plus- I started watching The Biggest Loser and that helps with motivation tons...
Brokentink, you do not look 203 pounds! You carry it VERY well!

As for myself, I just started drinking 2.2 liters of water a day, so my weight went up from 140lbs to 145lbs, but it's coming down slowly. I know it's the water because the five pounds were there the morning after I started hydrating, and we all know you don't gain 5lbs in a night.

I'm 5'7", and I got my bodyfat tested at the gym with those caliper fat-pincher thingies, and I'm 16% bodyfat, so they reccomended that I not lose any more weight, as I have a lot of muscle. I'm just going to continue eating the way I've been eating, and if I lose weight, great, and if I don't, that's cool too.

I used to eat 1300 calories a day, but those are my sedentary calories, and I am very active (I teach 7 bellydance classes a week and I'm a waitress; I also excersize every day I can on top of that). I've since upped my calories to 1600, and I feel a lot better and I'm still losing weight.

So, long story short, I'm 5'7", 140lbs, 1600 cals.
Thanks for your replies everyone, just trying to get this calorie thing right, not sure if I eat enough some days or to much other days. Thanks everyone.

I am 5'5" and weigh about 130-133 (I need to buy a scale or get to the gym... I'm just starting my calorie-counting/ goal-setting since having a baby 4 months ago). Because I'm breastfeeding, I'm aiming for about 1800 calories per day. Before I was pregnant, I only minimized my calories to 1600 minimum per day, to lose weight. I don't understand people only eating 1200... I would be starving! For me, 1700 - 1800 is a good max for the day and it allows me to lose weight. I aim to "bank" about 400 calories per day, including days that I exercise (that's how I "gain" extra calories so that I can eat more those days, which makes sense because my body needs more energy on those workout days... why would I starve it?).
So ya, 1800 calories max (for non-workout days) and a total of 400 calories banked per day.
I'm new to this forum and it seems like a great one!
I aim for a daily calorie intake of 1200. I'm 18, 5'4" and 200 lbs with a sedentary activity level. I just started dieting so I don't have any results yet. But I used to be on a 1200 calorie diet a few years back, and it worked well. I lost 6 kg (13 lbs) in a few months.
*1200* is what i am trying to stick to. if i exercise, i add the calories that i burn exercising to the amount that i can eat per day. that way, i don't starve myself on the days i work out. i am currently 155 and would like to drop 15 lbs by christmas. i jog 30-45 min 2x-3x a week. i am 5'7" and have a small to medium frame.
