How many calories do you eat per meal?

Quote  |  Reply

Everyone's calorie intake is different, which means everyone's calories are different per meal. I was just curious what everyone's meals look like. Is breakfast your biggest meal of the day? Do you eat 5 small meals and then some snacks? How much of your daily calorie intake does lunch take up? Just curious!

I have about 1300 cals a day - about 150 for breakfast, 300 for lunch and 800 for my dinner as I love a big dinner! Any left over calories goes to nice snacks in the evening. I'm not a big daytime eater as I keep really busy, but at night I'm ravenous :3

I'm always hungry at night, so i always worry about going over and try to save up my calories during the day, and usually i kind of over do it and end up with like seven hundred calories left after dinner. It's a bad habit that formed when i tried to gain control over a binge eating disorder and ugh. It's hard to break. I'm not usually hungry during the day so it's easy for me to eat less, whereas when i ate normal meals during daytime i ended up binge eating at night. I'm aiming for 1500 cals per day, so-

breakfast- around 200

lunch- 250-300

dinner-300-350

snack- 700 ( although can i call it a snack when it's more than my three meals added up?)

My goal is 700-900 a day, but if I hit 1,000 that is still ok.  My day is something like this:

B - Bananna (120)

L - Lean Cuisine (200-250)

D - Chicken and veg and glass of wine. (150+60+150)

Snacks - Quaker minis and/or carrots (100-150)

This all adds up to about 800.  If I eat much more than this I would never lose weight, because I'm only 5'2'' with a small frame.

im 5ft 3 with a Very small frame i am losing on 1400-1600 easily (though i am quite active).. if you gain on more than 1000 it means you killed your metabalism and you need to fix it ASAP before the problem gets worse.

I eat about 400cals for breakfast then 200-250cals for the meals after that eating 6 meals a day every day.

Yeah, my metabalism sucks.  I work an office job (7am-4pm), have an hour commute (eats breakfast while driving) and don't exercise.  I probably burn about 1,700 a day on a good day, which means that if I eat 1,000 cal, there is only a loss of 700.  My activity level is 0... and I'm not really interested in changing that.  There are too many video games to play and not enough time in my day..... Thanks for the advice though.  You look great in your pics!

Unfortunatly the problem you are going to have is that your metabalism is slowing down as we speak in a few months you need to eat 800cals to lose, then 700 etc .... it sounds silly but you have to feed your body enough to furnace burning on full heat.

atm your metabalism isn't running at full efficiency and when you finally reach your goal and start raising your cals to a normal level you'll find that the weight piles back on and unless you want to live the rest of your life on a diet thats not a good thing.

Trust me 18 month's ago i ate maybe 700-800 cals a day and i found out the hard way what happens when you trash your metabalism, i got stuck and nothing i did made that needle on the scales go down, heck i even resorted to some pretty drastic cals like 500cals some days... nothing worked.

To fix it i had to allow my body to GAIN 14lbs by eating like a horse for 3 months which mentally killed me... watching the scale go up is heart breaking ... and i had to do this just so i could re-start my diet normally in a healthy manner im only now just starting to getting back to where i actually wanted to be, but its funny now im eating a normal amount the weight is flying off.

You don't need to do exercise to loose weight, but you do need to eat to lose weight. Im not saying you should exercise the way i do... but please if you value your body AT ALL eat at least 1,200-1,300 after all you only get one body and if you screw it up then you really are buggered.

People have been saying you're going to mess up your metabolism by eating so little, but another possibility is that you may have a thyroid problem or other problem which needs a doctor's attention.  If you're not losing weight around the 1200 calorie a day diet, then you may need to see a doctor and have some blood tests done. :)

My goal is 1200 a day since I don't exercise at all and that's what the website suggested.  I like to eat a big dinner with my hubby when he gets home from work, so my breakfast and lunch is small.

200 breakfast

100 cal snack- like 100 cal popcorn or yogurt

200 lunch

100 cal snack

600 dinner- like a lean chicken breast, salad, and bread, or something like that... I just check the calorie counter if I'm not sure.

Well my goal is 1500 calories so what I try and do is split my day into 3 500 calorie chunks.

Between 9:00am (usually when I wake up) and about 1:00pm is chunk 1 and during this time I have breakfast and a snack. Usually breakfast is a bowl of cereal and milk so ends up being 250ish cals and a banana so I'm up to 350. Then I'll have my snack which is usually a yogurt that's about 120 cals. So I'm up to 470.

Between 1:00 and 5:00 is Chunk 2. Lunch will usually be a salad with some hard boiled egg whites. Then I'll have a rather large snack - usually some almonds in oatmeal or something. A clementine, whatever. I split it up really well and basically graze 500 calories worth of food.

5:00 on is my dinner chunk. I usually eat about 400 cals at dinner and then I have 100 calorie kettle corn before I go to bed.

I eat 3 main meals a day and i try to never eat more than 500calories in one sitting.

You don't need to stuff the crap out of your stomach every time you eat in order to feel satisfied.  It look me so long to learn this.. i've been drastically reducing my portion sizes.. i used to eat as much as my 180 pound boyfriend!

I have to say I totally agree with this, and only because I've learned from personal experiance. I wanted to lose weight fast so I ate very little for a long time (will power?) and it got out of hand. Long story short, when I started eating 1200 or more again I gained weight immediately. We're talking 25 -30 pounds weight gain, and this is on a SMALL amount of calories - the numbers just didn't add up. I always figured that I was just an exception or that the BMR calculators are just PLAIN WRONG. But I was convinced after joining this website to give "the right way" a try.
I started living the life that I wanted to have - I work out 5hours or more per week, and eat 1300-1600 calories per day. After months of not losing ANYTHING, and eating only 1200 calories or so, I finally have lost 3 pounds, and this is on a week by week basis.

The first week that I saw the scale move I thought it was just coincidence or water or something. But I weighed in the next week, and it was ANOTHER pound gone - and the NEXT week - another 1.1 pounds gone. I'll be the first to come on this website and complain if this trend ends, but what I'm saying is give pure LOGIC a try. You are probably not an exception.

BTW I'm 5'1, 128(!!!) pounds and 20 years old.

I eat around 300 -400 calories for breakfast,
300- 400 for an early lunch, 300-400 for an early dinner and then another 300-400 for dinner dinner. When you eat whole grains, vegetables, lentils, etc you can eat a TON of food for still relatively few calories.

maybe its because im in college and dont have a family to plan things around yet, but i never really eat full meals.  i tend to just graze throughout the day and at the end of the day i usually have 3 or 400 calories left that i need to eat, so i end up eating a big meal later at night.

breakfast- 200-300 (slimfast meal bar + a veggie), lunch- 300-400 (varies-usually quisidilla or rice with veggies), dinner-500-600 (varies greatly)
3 snacks of around around 100 calories
It varies from day to day but I always get around 1550 per day.  Never less than 1400 and never more than 1700

Alright lets see....

Breakfast 250-300

Snack 120-150

Lunch 300

Snack 0 (I usually have some green tea or a diet coke or something; I guess I really don't get hungry in the afternoon haha)

Dinner 200-500 (It ALL depends haha)

Snack.....whatever amount of calories I have left for the day. So basically between 200-500 :P

So I guess 1750 at the most. And I'm pretty active so thats alright :)
