Calves ugh :(

Quote  |  Reply
I know this might just be in my head but even back when I was thin I always though I had abnormally large calves.....

Well I'm down 19lbs but I still don't see that big of difference in that area which makes me think I never will :( I try to stay away from cardio exercises that will bulk them up like large inclines on the treadmill and what not...I'm usually on the stationary bike which feels like it worths my thighs a lot more.

They are 16" at their widest point.....what about you guys...what is the "average" calve size around here

P.S. I'm 5'4, 138lbs....medium frame
i have a small frame, mine are 15 inches. im 5'4 157lbs.   i hate it cause all the cute winter knee high boots have 14 inches. uuuuuuuugggggggggggg

I wish mine were about 15 that would be about perfect for me, as is there about 12. Im 6'1 160lbs

okay, now, I didn't read page threeeee, buuuttt;

I am 5'7 (almost, a little less) 108 pounds, and my calves are 14.5 inches. My point is they may not go away, but girlfriends, I probably have the largest boot collection you will ever see (48+ pairs). How do I do it?

I wear stylish boots that are LOOSE and CLUNKY and riding boots and pixie boots and slouch boots and pirate boots and frye boots....(the list goes on.) Unless you've got like, smaller than a size 6 shoe, HELLOOO! How could you ever give up boots for your calves????? There is definitely a way to work around things, if anybody knows about the calves I certainly do, lol, 'cause mine probably ain't never going away!

Also if you wear tall loose boots, you can even wear (gasp) a mini skirt!!!

(the large boots actually make thighs appear smaller as a plus, AND mask large calves. I wouldn't give up my knee high motorcycle boots if my house was on fire!!)

Have some hope, my goodness everyone!

*and I might add that some round toe flats look so cute with shapely larger calves of any size. especially with the right skirt or leggings or capris! Granted they aren't good on the ole feet...they are oh so convenient for a hot weather alternative to sandals and heels.

scrltbgnia9 , you and I could be twins. I am about the same height/weight and the same calf size. When I gain weight it seems to go right to my calves and thighs. I dread wearing shorts and skirts. I do own a few pairs of boots that I can 'squeeze' into but then it looks funny wearing them. I guess I should be more confident and no care what someone would think or say if showed off my big calves-just get over the insecurity and be happy with what I have. All that aside, reading this blog has given me a small ray of hope and confidence that maybe I can get over this.

I'm 5'8 and 147ish lbs and mine are 14.5 at the widest part. I dunno, is that big?? I've always thought they were huge but sometimes when I look at them they don't seem so big :\ I think I just see my whole legs as huge though because my thighs are gigantic and my knees are also very fatty!

Ughhhh I have such thick calves....17 inches at the widest part. I'm 5'2, 162, hoping to get down to 125. My biggest fear is that my calves will never shrink. I have never been able to wear boots, it sucks! I love wearing leggings, but I think it just looks stupid with my huge calves. Pleeeeaaseee get smaller!!!

My sister is taller and lighter than me but her calves are thick too. Stupid genetics.

I'm 5'4", 140 lbs, small frame with 15" calves. I have teeny ankles, but hey I think my calves look superb. I mean, I still have about 10ish lbs to lose, but everything is decently proportioned. I'm down about 12 lbs, and on my lower legs, it looks like I've only lost fat in the area between the bottom of the calf muscle and the ankle. 15"-16" on 5'4" is probably pretty average, especially w/ a medium frame! Put on some heels in front of the mirror, see if you feel any better!

I'm 5'7 120 lbs and my calves are 14.5 and 15 inches and I love them!  They're the most muscular part of me!

I love my big calves! They are strong and sexy! Plus, all of the basketball players in high school with their little chicken legs were always jealous.
im 5'6 156 lbs and my calves measure in at 14.5 and i am very happy with them :)

Oh you are not alone. My calves are 15 also. I'm 5'7" 158lbs.  But they are big no matter what weight/size the rest of me is.  Just genetics in my family. We are all that way.  To be  honest, I'm probably the smallest when it comes to height in my family..including my aunts!!!

Ok, I with all  of you!! My calves are huge.. I only weigh 108 (I'm 5'2") and my calves are 15+ (I had the tape measure pretty tight).   I haved tried everything including obsessive excersize and diet . .. nothing has made them any smaller.  It is genetics but mine are bigger than my mom's and sisters.  I talked to a plastic surgeon that said he wont do lipo on calves... my thighs are normal size.. I have never been able to wear boots (learned some tricks here about boots), anklets or even ankle straps.. my question is how big are everyones ankles??? my are huge too.. I hate that word cankles!!!   even when I weighed 95 pounds they didn't change.   It is amaizing what people will say when you are tiny with these huge calves..  I think they think that if you are thin, you can take it.. It is awful!!   Everyone has body issues.  Has anyone had lipo on their calves?

has anyone tried callanetics? i've always had big calfs and thighs, 2 weeks ago my calfs measured 16" and thighs were 25 1/2" at biggest part since then i have done about 7 hours of callanetics and today my calfs are just a tiny bit over 15 " and my thighs are 24" i know its not a huge difference but its not bad for the amount of time its taken! ( i've also lost nearly 3 inches off my waist and 1cm off my upper arms)

I can't either, a good 2 inches bigger at that  wow

I'm 5'9 with skinny 13 inch calves and skinnier ankles

I always thought my calves were big, but I just measured them and they're 13.5, wa-hey! The problem is more that they are covered in scratches from my mental kitten...

5'9 with 12 inch calves.

I have enormous calves, and I know some say that it is genetics, but I don't see it in any of my family members, men or women.  I think I am cursed.  Right now I weigh 170 and I am 5'5.  But even when I weighed 145 my calves were dramatically large.  I just measured them a few days ago and they measured at a little over 17in.  My calves are bigger than my boyfriends calves.  I just want to wear a dress or some capri pants or knee high boots.  I can't do any of those things because my calves are so large.  I feel your pain.

I'm 5'5" and 118 lbs or so-- my calves are about 13" so... i'd say about average?  I still have trouble with boots, though, cause I have pretty big feet, x.x

And I cant imagine what my calves were like before I started running!  They're not so muscular yet but what I have, I like.

I have 13 inch calves which would be considered normal looking if I weren't 5'9. They look very scrawny compared to the rest of me, and never get bigger no matter how much weight I gain. They lead down to even thinner ankles. Even when I run and train they stay the same or get even thinner.
