I am about to turn 44 and I am realizing that I am in the beginning stages of menopause. I have various symptoms that have been evident for about 7 months. I began taking a liver support supplement after my face severely broke out with acne back in February and began an estrogen balancing supplement about three weeks ago. I have seen some changes in my symptoms however my weight has steadily increase over the last 7 months even though I have faithfully been working out 4-6 times a week for an hour each day and watching what I have been eating. Since November I have gain about 10lbs and I am frustrated. I can't seem to get a handle on it. This past week I upped my exercise to 2-3 hours a day for the past 5 days just to see if it would make a difference and when I got on the scale this morning I had gained a pound since I weighed 5 days ago. I just don't know what to do! I feel it has a lot to do with my hormones but I feel I am doing all I can in that area. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need help!
Thanks I will look into it!
Hey. I agree with going to the doctor. As for your exercise, if you upped it so much the pound gained this week could be do to water retention.
Also, what kind of exercise do you do? I am 37, so slightly lighter than you; I started lifting very heavy weights in February and let me tell you this has upped my metabolism like crazy and it has really allowed me to change the shape of my body. So, if you aren't lifting heavy, I would recommend that you look into it. I have read that it also helps us women with the worries of osteoporosis.
I agree that you should see your doctor. I think you are pretty young for menopause and there many be some other hormonal issue going on. I just turned 45 and have lost 87 lbs since Jan of 2010 with no real problems. I also started lifting weights in Jan and have seen a big change in my shape and have lost inches. Also how many cals are you eating. If you have been chronically under eating, your body can actually figure out a way to gain weight :( And more exercise = more water retention in sore muscles so I'm not too surprised that you are up after 2-3 hrs of exercise per day.
I do 4-5 days a week. 45 min- 1.5 hrs depending on the workout for the day and have maintained my weight fine. I also eat 1600-1800 cals when in weight loss mode and can maintain on 2000-2200. It's really frustrating when you feel you are doing everything right but it all seems to go wrong. I hope you can get this figured out. Good luck :)
