A Celery Only Diet?

Quote  |  Reply

First off, I just signed up to the site today, Its great!!

?

I was thinking about starting a celery and water only diet, because I heard celery has negative calories. It would only be a week or 2.

And I wouldn't be starving myself because my plans are to eat celery all day. Or eat a lot of celery at once until I'm not hungry any more. Probably the celery all day though, because a lot of celery at once is kinda gross.. lol.

?Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Will it help me loose weight and not risk having my body go into that whole starvation mode thing?

?Thanks!! :)

OMG. That is not good. Not at all. Not in any way. You will lose weight, but once you eat normally it will come back. You could go into starvation mode from doing that.

I strongly recommend NOT doing it.

What are your stats and goals?

LOL. Wtf. You seem to think that the only reason to eat is to ward off hunger, or something. Why do you think hunger is there in the first place? It's because your body needs fuel to keep it alive. It needs NUTRIENTS. It needs vitamins and minerals and things to BURN to keep you warm and able to move just like wood keeps a furnace burning and the flame lively.

If you eat nothing but celery for two weeks, you will kill yourself.

Or at least come close to it.

i know it seems like we are being rude, but since your new to this site you may not be aware that you need minimum 1200 calories daily. if you stoop below that often you do put yourself at risk of going into starvation mode, which is not fun trust me, you will lose weight. but it all comes back, with an additional 5-10lbs Sealed

which is not worth it. stick to 1200-1400 calories a day and weight will come of safely

Celery is negative calories...in a way. And is great to use as a snack between meals as it will help you feel fuller and keep you going til dinner time. BUT it has practically nothing in it. You'll basically be starving yourself and that is not a good idea. Even if it is just for two weeks. Eat healthily and you'll do yourself much more good.
Glass shards have less calories than celery... i THINK...
Have you really sat down and thought about this?

Imagine eating only one food for two weeks.  You are going to abhor celery and not want to see it ever again.  Celery is much to good to do that to it.

Why not write a list of different foods that are healthy for you and try to incorporate them into your food list.

Food wasn't meant to be boring.
It's not the best plan for weight loss. Check out the resources here.
Ew, I can't even eat celery in soup much less all day.  Yuck...not only yuck...but it is definitely a silly idea.  Don't put your body through anything like that.

I'm not proud of it, but I once did the Beverly Hills Diet, which meant that for the first 2 weeks, you would eat one food only, as much as you wanted of that one food.  So it went something like this - Day 1, Strawberries; Day 2, Watermelon; Day 3, Grapes; Day 4, Pineapple and so forth.

But what happened was, I lost a bunch of water weight.  After the second day I felt miserable because I wanted to eat some real food.  By the time I got to the grape day on the second week, I would have rather shot them at people with a slingshot than eat them!  And the watermelon day!  I ate a fricking whole watermelon by the end of the day - I had to pee all day long!

So, bottom line, it's not a sustainable way to live and so it won't be a good way to reach a healthy weight either.

But you're in the right place!  There's lots of good information in the tools on this site and check out the food forums for ideas about meals and snacks.  Welcome!

That is the stupidest diet I ever heard of.  Absolutely not.

Even if you ate the massive amount of celery it would take to get you to a recommended minimum of 1,200 cals, your body would be still be compromised due to malnutrition.

I definitely don't recommend it.

Eat a balanced diet with an adequate amount of calories, get exercise, and you'll be a lot healthier.

The goal to losing weight is to be able to keep it off right?

Eating only celery for a week WILL make you lose weight. The wrong way.
At the end of that week, you will be starving, your metabolism will be next to nothing, and the moment you go back to eating normally, your weight will shoot up again, past what it was before.

That's your body compensating for you torturing it by not giving it the proper nutrients it needs to function.

Eating only celery for a week will make you lose weight, but at what price?
Eat healthy, eat the recommended amount of calories by this site, and exercise, and you WILL lose weight.

Terrible idea.
bad.
Not unless you have a death wish... a) there's no such thing as 'negative calories'. b) eating too much of any one thing is as bad for your body as eating too little. and c) celery is chock full of natural salt and if you ate that much of it you'd get very sick very quickly and probably end up in the hospital.

You would probably die!

To get 1,200 calories you would need about 303 ounces which has:

1,203 cals
6,872 mg of sodium (WAY to much!!!)
137 grams of fiber (So be sure and stay near a restroom!!)
+ 157 grams os sugar, 3,436 mg of calcium
