First of all, what is a cheat day? What does that mean in terms of eating?

Second, is it healthy/a good idea?

I've been reading about people having cheat days on their daily updates and have never heard of this before.

I would consider a cheat day eating not necessarily healthy food, but what you really love, in moderation. Example would be me eating pizza (which I love, but isn't really healthy) instead of a proper healthier meal. Eating more at a maintenance level of calories (and in some cases slightly over for myself), rather than a weight loss level (calorie deficit). Cheat days are NOT binge days, I just want to stress that.

I have read some things saying that a cheat day can be beneficial if done correctly. It keeps your body on its toes, and keeps it guessing whats coming. Also, having the change to eat something you love and isn't necessarily healthy, will help keep you committed to a healthy lifestyle long term. However, I want to just stress again, that you need to make sure you don't eat too much, and stay within a decent calorie range.

Thank you for the explanation.

I'll give this a try on Sunday and have a slice of cherry pie.

in the past, my 'cheat days' HAVE been binge days.  big difference.  thanks for clarifying.  may try to reincorporate this at some point....
