ive herd that for weight loss drinking room temperature water is best. can anybody tell me if there is any truth in this.
I had no idea there was a difference, hadnt even thought about it before but i guess it makes sense your body has to work harder with cold water.

I heard cold water should be drunk alone, but if you're drinking with food, it should be room temp.
Something like cold water takes up more energy and slows down the digestive process for the food that goes with it. I don't know...never followed it so I can't say if it works. XD
In my nutrition class (18 years ago, and the times, the do a'change) we were taught that the body burned more calories with cold/ice water than room temp, but the difference, as angeleigh said, is negligible and certainly not worth causing yourself pain!!
Something to keep in mind about the whole cold water burning calories to warm it up thing is that the "calories" we think about eating and burning are really kilocalories (Kcal), whereas when you're actually doing computations about the heat and energy and stuff, you generally use regular calories. So if you're not careful, you end up thinking that you burn a ton of "calories" (Kcal--the ones we're actually worried about) heating water back up, when it's really just the regular calories you're burning, so it's almost negligible.
It's been a while since chemistry, so I don't remember how to do the math, or I would, but anyone who tells you you burn 200 calories heating water back up is most likely citing something that made this mistake.
I've never understood why America calls Kcals calories. When I studied in England, I was very excited to see that their labels have Kcals on them.

I have heard something similar about drinking ice cold water after working out so I drink cool water after exercising but ice cold water the rest of time. Room tempature or warm water is disgusting to me. I don't know how people do that... lol.

So not much calculation is involved here.......
One 8 oz. glass = 8 oz x 28 grams/oz = 224 grams
Body Temp = 98.6 F = (98.6-32) x 5/9 = 37 C
Ice water = 7 C I think, any colder and it would really hurt.
So, we will raise the temperature of 224 grams by 30 C, gives
6720 calories, or 7 Kcal. If we get our 8 glasses per day, 56 KCal.
Hmm, worked out better than I thought. But I didn't figure in the amount of the heat which would be absorbed from our surroundings as I do not know the insulation value of the mass over the stomach. 'Probably' insignificant, but I would want to run the numbers before I promised anything.
