COLLEGE STUDENTS: let's get fit for Spring Break 2011

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone! I want to make a support group for all of us college students that wanna slim down before Spring Break! I realize that this is going to be a short-lived group because break is only about 3 weeks away for me (and probably 4 weeks for many of you guys) but I thought this would be a nice way to give and receive support to stay healthy during college. We all know this can be such a challenge! So please join and introduce yourself... I would love to hear from you!

I am 5 ft 6 and 121 pounds. I have recently packed on a nice winter coat of 5 extra pounds and would like to get back to my more toned body! I find it hard to get an intense workout indoors so as soon as the ice melts from my favorite running trail i WILL be pounding the pavement, mark my words!

Also, I was thinking about a weekly weigh in... how about Sundays?

I'm all in. I'm 5'4 and 130 pounds. I still wanna lose about 5 pounds, but my main goal right now is to tone up. I TRY to do cardio 5 or 6 times a week and lift weights at least four times a week but it can be hard with all the studyinggg. But I'm ready to rock my swimsuit this spring break :p And Sundays work for me for weigh ins :)

New favorite group!  My break is four weeks away and I just ordered a couple of new bikinis so I have to stay on track--for monetary reasons.  Right now I'm doing an hour of cardio 5-6 days a week and resistance training 2-3 times a week.  Kinda been on a detox this week, so we'll see if that kick starts something.

Oh, btw, I'm 23 years old, 5'1, 115 pounds, looking to be 110ish by SB.  And TONED!!!

My spring break is 6 weeks away, and I want to lose these stupid 5 pounds too! I seemed to put them on while I was studying for an exam this summer, and now they won't go away!

5'1, 109 pounds.  I also love to run!

Kittywood - we are pretty similar. How many calories a day do you aim for?

getterdone: good to hear that you like to run too!!! have you been in any races? i have only done 5ks but i would love to do a half marathon someday soon!

even though i am a semi-new vegetarian, i have been eating loads of junkfood this week so i am totally ready to get things going with a bit of weight loss! salads just dont sound appetizing to me in the winter time... i want pizza and stirfry haha! but all of this has accumulated in my butt-hip-thigh region and it just needs to go before spring break if im going to be in a bikini in sunny florida... what are everyones travel plans for break?

Probably have the farthest to go.  I'm 6'1" about 185. 17% body fat. Looking to be about 12 or 10% by SB.  I'm 18.  I do weight training 6 days a week and a little bit of cardio everyday.  I am on a diet of about 2000 calories a day.  To get to my goal I have to lose about 15 lbs of fat while packing on muscle.  If anyone has tips or advice I would love it.

Getterdone, my calorie target is 1200, mostly because I couldn't decide what my activity level was.  I mean, while I do walk to class, when I get there I sit for an hour and a half.  So I thought I'd better be safe about it.  I up my target with exercise, but still rarely go much over 1200 (unless it's the weekend and I go out ha).

To you runners, I've only recently discovered running.  I thought I hated it for so long, but nobody told me how different it was running outside than on a treadmill.  It might just be my new passion :)

Welcome Ramsey!  Need any advice, just ask!

Oh, and SB plans are currently for Destin.  We'll see what really happens though.

I have been eating closer to 2000 calories. I should not be surprised I am not losing any weight even with exercise. I am going to try super hard to stick to 1200 to 1300 this weekend and next week. That is going to be my goal. I really don't want to have to crash diet before my goal date. What does a typical day look for you guys food wise?

This is what I ate today:

Breakfast:  Bowl of Special K w/ 1/2 cup FF organic milk and coffee w/ real creamer b/c I love real creamer.

Lunch:  Luna Nutz over Chocolate Bar, Orange, Light n Fit Yogurt

Snack:  Apple, South Beach Diet Protein Bar (I was driving and needed a quick snack)

Dinner:  Sauteed tilapia, boiled okra, sweet potato, piece of 35 cal bread

Snack:  I'll eat another 200 or so calories tonight; maybe some popcorn or a bowl of cereal, that type thing.

If I am working out daily for about 90 minutes of very rigorous weight lifting is 1000 calorie deficit too high? I am trying to drop about 15-20 lbs of fat. I am still getting enough protein and carbs. About 2500 calories. Is it bad hat I have that much of a deficit?

ramsey i dont think a 1000 calorie deficit is that bad!! you are already eating 2500 thats alot of food! but you can always do some experimenting by upping your calories by a couple hundred a day for a week or so to see how you feel. i honestly dont think an extra couple hundred calories a day will make much of a difference because you seem very active. just make sure you get plenty of protein because of all that weight lifting!!

Girl were like almost the same stats 5’6 119 pounds.. I agree with wanting your toned body back... I totally want in on this..

Whats everyone eating like and exercise like??

Phew! Valentines day for me is over. I had chocolate and too much wine, but totally worth it. I am ready to get serious! I have decided to start running outside with my man. I am normally a treadmill runner, but I want to change it up a little bit. I am also going to sign up for a bootcamp class at my gym that starts at the end of February. Anyone do one of those before?

My eating plan is to eat 1200-1400 a day up until I reach my goal body!!! then i will start increasing by 100 calories per day each week until I find my maintenance intake because I reallly wanna keep this weight off haha. My workout plan is kinda lame in the winter because I just run the indoor track for 30-60 minutes 5-6 times a week... i try to work in 1 or 2 interval runs but they are kinda tedious on the track. I also do ab circuits and butt/leg circuits once or twice each.

I did weight myself after the gym this morning and I was kinda shocked to see that I was 118.6 so I am assuming I am dehydrated from last nights partying and this mornings run.

getterdone that sounds like a perfect valentines day celebration!!! all my single friends and I are cuddling up with chinese food and sappy movies tomorrow night. I am going to need some warm veggies and tofu after my 2 tests!

So, I weighed this morning -- still 115.  Honestly, though, I'm not freaking out about the weigh-ins.  I've accepted that it just takes me forever to lose weight.  I feel good, though, and I'm definitely looking better in my clothes, so that's really what matters.  I'm down ten pounds from this time last year, so my SB is already looking better than the last.

On a separate note, a girlfriend of mine had a girl's Vday dinner party tonight.  I usually have a "Sunday, Fatday" every week, and this week was no exception.  I logged what I could the best that I could, though, and I think I did a little bit better than last week's Superbowl "Sunday, Fatday."

I usually use sundays as my "stuff my face" day too!!!! although I am trying to see if I can eat perfectly for a week straight so yesterday I did go to the dining hall but I practiced a good amount of restraint... Heres what I ended up eating:

B: low sugar oatmeal (120)

S: popcorn (110)

L: minestrone soup (about 180) granola (i estimated around 200-250)

D: asian veggie stirfry (200) about 2/3 cup of my friends gnocchi in some oily sauce (probably around 250-300)

I wish I had eaten something else in place of that gnocchi but whatever I stayed around my target for the day!

Wow, I'm loving this post! Hey everyone, I'm Liv! I'm 19, 5'11, and about 175 lbs. I know that number is sickly high, ughh.
I've recently really let my weight creep up on me and I'm ready to get back into shape! Not just for spring break, but also for summer! I want to rock a bikini :D

I'm a newly turned vegan so I'm going to be trying to stick to that, as well as exercising 6-7 days a week.

Hope everything is going good with you all!

AHHH help! i just overate wayyyy too much at our valentines day celebration! I was doing so well for the whole day and made room for my chinese meal of rice and tofu and steamed veggies but then came the chocolate... then the cupcakes... then the pb with crackers... I must have eaten around 3000 calories today!! I feel awful :( Do you think if I do a double workout tomorrow the extra weight will go away faster? Like a morning run and an after lunch run??
