How to conquer the "drunk munchies"?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so I've almost conquered how to stop binging sober... Through therapy and a lotttt of self help talk and stuff, I'm almost there. But my down fall is when I drink (and it's summer so I've been going out a lot with my friends and stuff). Whenever I'm drunk, I alwayssssss binge. Then I wake up the next morning super bloated :( Has anyone had this problem? What do I do? All I can think of is to stop drinking..

^^this^^   Alcohol is bad for your weight anyway ;)

Everything in excess is bad, enjoying a glass of wine here and there is ok but getting drunk is not going to help with your weight loss goal

i completely understand where you're coming from. i went to a mexican bar this weekend where i would usually get churros or something else fatty, instead i had some wine and munched on a few whole grain chips which was really filling but not that bad in the long run, don't overdue it with mcdonalds or something calorie filled that will also make your hangover even worse (if you get them), just think about how you'll feel the next morning and how it will effect how you want to look and feel in the long run! hope this helps:)

It is clear that you don't wish to stop drinking, so I won't offer that as advice. And that is fine. Nothing wrong with drinking every now and then if it suits your lifestyle. But inhibitions are down when you drink, and there is not much you can do to avoid it while drinking other than avoiding locations where you can get your hands on food. You have to weigh the benefits against the risks. Also, I have found if you eat a pretty good meal before you start drinking you are less likely to be hungry at the end of the night.

I really cut back on the drinking. In a six month period I drank at a wedding, a 50th bday and new years and only two of those I'd say I actually got drunk. And in the last four month twice and once getting actually drunk. So I'd say not too bad for a ten month period but I may falter a bit more with summer but I am still going to try to keep in moderation.

If drinking brings on self destruction definitely stop. I'd say conquer demons first in any case if you are struggling with more than just drinking :)

Good luck and be safe ;)

What I've found works for me (since I'm in the same boat with some of my friends) is drinking spritzers instead of my normal drinks. I mix half my favorite (white) wine and half seltzer/sparkling water. I drink less alcohol so I'm not tempted to munch or even drink more and more, but the amount of liquid I'm consuming is the same so I can just enjoy. Plus, I think it actually tastes better.

Try finding ways to decrease the amount of alcohol you're drinking and increase the mass or amount of liquid so alcohol and calories stay down and inhibitions and common sense stay up. =] Luck!

Unfortunately, the very nature of the drug alcohol is that it interferes with your normal decision making, so once you are drunk, you simply can not reliably reason with yourself not to binge.  Learn to drink without getting drunk.
