Hey guys,
I was wondering what you guys thought of detox diets, or fasting for a few days? If you think it's unhealthy, or healthy, or just neutral either way. I wanted to do sort of a detox diet for a couple of days after spending the weekend eating crap for Mother's Day. If you guys know of any good way of doing this, or have any suggestions, they would be very much appreciated! If you guys discourage detox things, your opinions are also appreciated! I've read a lot of different opinions about the whole detox thing and just want to talk to some people about it before I start. I was going to take the approach of just eating a lot of clean protein and complex carbs and fresh fruits and veggies for a couple of days... but very little amounts, while drinking a ton of green tea and water. I was planning on staying under 800 calories. I would, again, like to emphasize that it would only be for 2-3 days. I don't want to hurt my body, I just want the benefits of a detox, which a lot of people have said really makes you look and feel better. Opinions and thoughts?
Your body is good at detoxing itself and usually doesn't need any help. Also I don't recommend dropping your cals that much, it's a good way to over eat after a day or two :( Just go back to your "clean eating" drink water and normal exercise and in a few days you should be back to where you were and feeling good.
Detoxes are unnecessary (that is what your Kidneys and Liver do) and eating a calorie intake as low as 800 calories is not healthy.. even for a few days.
There is a recommended bare minimum (your BMR) for a reason.. your body needs at least that much to function.. without even factoring in any activity or exercise.
Nothing wrong with "eating clean" though. In fact, that will be all you need to do, with an adequate / increased water intake to feel healthy, revitalised and get that spring in your step.
Note: the stats you gave in another thread indicate you are at a healthy weight. (5'8"-5'9" CW: 155-160)
Even taking the shorter height of those options and matching that to the higher weight you gave, the BMI calculator still says.. "Based upon your current Body Mass Index (BMI) of 24.3, you are currently classed as at a healthy weight"
You don't need to lose weight (detoxes don't help with that anyway) and your body is already getting rid of any junk you may have eaten this weekend. Eat healthfully most of the time and a day or two of indulgence won't matter much in the big scheme of things.
Use exercise to effect changes in your body shape if it is not to your preference.
