What am I doing wrong? I keep gaining.

I thought I was doing everything well and proper and a first I was losing a bit of weight each week but now I am just gaining again so I must be doing something wrong.

I am a female aged 22 who is 5'2 and 164lbs I eat approximately 1300-1500 calories a day depending on how active I am. I am mostly not active because I don't have the time to exercise but I do have to move around an amount at college and I don't have a car so I walk a lot. Initially the calculator said to eat at 1200 cal but I figured that was too low so that's why I put my cap at 1500.

I don't eat fast food and I only eat meat on the weekends but I always have a nutrition grade of B+ to A. Also I am pretty careful about portion control and what not. This is ridiculous I really hate that I am sucking at this so much especially because I thought I was doing it right.

How are you getting your calorie estimates? If you don't already have one, get a food scale and measure your food.

I'm 5'2" and at one point I weighted almost as much as you do -- I try not to remember High School!

My weight lost happened during my university years; though, I wasn't doing a set of exercises I did move around a lot, there were days when I walked 4 to 5 hours. Also, I lowered my calories intake to 1200 since it really isn't too low when we burn very few calories a day.

I followed the two main rules of a healthy diet:

  • eat breakfast to kick your metabolism awake,
  • not eating past 8PM -- in theory it's at 7PM but our dinnertime is at 7:30PM, what's important is not to eat and sleep...

I hope you lose weight in a healthier fashion than I did; though, I admit that that was the least of my concerns at the time. Nonetheless, the result was that I felt tired for years due to low iron and proteins intake, which is something I'm still trying to fix.

Losing weight is a battle but you can do it. I'm also back on the battle to lose weight but this time I also want to eat healthier.

I try to find things on the database on this site that are very similar or the same thing to what I ate. I have a food scale that I use for fresh foods (if I am not in a crazy rush) but everything else I just calculate using the grams on the packaging depending on how much of something I ate.

I don't think 1200 would be a good amount for me because I'm not just walking a lot I am an art student so I am taking a lot of physical classes and on the weekends I work house keeping so I just don't think it would be a good fit for me. I'm not that active but I am active enough to need more to stay healthy.

The breakfast thing is something I have always followed but that is because it is how I was raised XD. I would love to not eat after 8pm and I think it may be one of my problems. On most days I have a class that lasts 5-8pm so on those days I tend to eat late because it is too early to eat for me.

I will just have to work at it.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
