Eat 1100-1200 cals per day

Quote  |  Reply
Just today I have seen a lot of people posting on different forums about how bad it is to only have 1100 or 1200 cals.  This is the amount that all the calculations and things have been telling me to eat.  I have been able to loose and maintain at this level.  Some days I do eat a little more than the 1200.  But usually its never less.  Is this really that bad?

(pasted from this post http://www.calorie-count.com/forums/post/3178 .html)

"a 5'2" 19 year old female weighing 100 pounds (which is WAY too small anyways but this is the example given)... needs 1,200 calories to just sit around all day and do nothing. This is how it's broken down (scientifically)

-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)"

So, yes, you wan to be eating at LEAST 1200 calories. More if you're male, overweight or taller than the average 5'2", 19 year old woman.
it depends on how much you weigh and how tall you are. 1200 calories isn't a bad choice for some people
torino- I guess that is what I was getting at.  I would agree that it all has to do with height and other things.  I guess I posted because it seems like responses to different forums seems to leave that out.

hkellick -  I agree that individual needs to be eating more but clearly there are some other issues going on.  Where did you get your percentages from, I am curious?  According to your calcs all women need 144 cals for their heart to fuction properly.  Am I reading this correctly?

I just wanted to let people know that it is ok for some to eat that amount in a healthy way.
The numbers are from kutie5's dietician (as quoted in that post). Most of us aren't a dietician, but asking your doctor, a certified dietician would be a great place to start :)
