Can you eat chocolate and still lose weight?

Quote  |  Reply

I know this is a dumb question BUT if you are within your calories and at around like 30 grams of fat then a couple of pieces of Dove is okay right?

But then I am thinking why not have a hamburger which is a couple of hundred calories if your under your calories...but I know if you do that you wont lose weight...

so im lost.  im pretty good with meals. healthy breakfast, lunch, light dinner.  But sometimes i just need some choc...

i lost about 25 lbs and didn't give up any of my indulgent foods :-)  I just stayed within calories, got active and didn't indulge all the time or in large quantities.  a little treat here and there won't hurt, i say :-)  mind your cholesterol, though, if you are eating a burger everyday :-D

yes, you can totally eat your chocolate!  It all comes down to eating less than your daily calorie needs and you'll lose weight.

others on here will disagree, but I believe a calorie is a calorie is a calorie.

Thanks guys! I totally agree.  Before people use to tell me all calories are not the same because of fat ratio.  Then I started counting fat as well.  So I try not to exceed 30 grams of fat a day (that includes my chocolate)

Thanks! now i dont feel to guilty!

True, but I do buy into the idea that the source of the calories affect our body chemistry in different ways.   I don't obsess over this, but whenver possible I try to stick to whole foods with lots of fruits and vegetables.   Seems obvious, but sometimes that gets lost on people who focus only on the number of calorie and eat a ton of processed, chemically altered foods. :)

Don't eat chocolate!!!!  Seriously... if you say the word "chocolate" into a recoder and play it backwards you hear "satanic"... seriously... and if you say the words "chocolate milkshake" and play it backwards... it sounds like "satan eats your soul".

I'd stay away from that stuff...

well it really depends on your goals.  if you are looking to improve health then you probably should watch that more closely, but i think in general it's not necessary to be so strict on the "bad foods"

having said that, I also think a body that's better fed with highly nutritious food and little junk will function better and possibly lose weight better.....

but personally i love chocolate and ain't no one takin' from me!  :-)

I like having 1 hershey's kiss.  If you just like suck on it instead of inhaling it, really enjoy and indulge, it lasts forever.  The best part?  It only has 25 calories and tastes amazing!

I also love my chocolate vitamin!  Viactiv's are these little chocolate chews with 500mg calcium and vitamin D and they taste amazing and only have 20 calories!

Hershey has these great little things called 'sticks' and they have it in dark, milk, chocolate w/mint, and chocolate w/caramel. They are in the candy isle. They are real chocolate and only 60 cals per. They are long enough where you wonder if its too much chocolate to be only 60 cals. Awsome and I have at least 2 everyday.

I am a chocoholic and I need my chocolate fix..so I see these as a blessing.

An  individual peice of Dove dark chocolate is 42 calories, 3 g of fat. You can certainly have a healthy, reasonable and balanced diet filled with veggies and fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains, all packed with nutrients and STILL have a bit of room left for a treat. And a 42-calorie square of chocolate seems like a really good choice.

No single food has the power to stop you from losing weight. Focusing on the big picture - making sure my body gets everything it needs within my calorie target - is what keeps me healthy, saving a little room for chocolate is what keeps me sane. And on track.

Of course you can.  I lost 55 pounds eating chocolate every single day.  Only a square or two of dark choc.  But every day.

I eat organic 70% dark chocolate.  A couple squares a day.  And it is fantastic.  And I am losing weight!

I am actually shocked that no one here mentioned the antidepressant effects of (dark) chocolate.  The effects may be subclinical - but they are undeniable.

One of a million hits on google.

Chocolate is fine.   Dark chocolate 70% or more is better for you.

Hey, chocolate comes from cocoa beans and beans are good for you.  Just stay away from the cheap stuff that has all the fillers.

Like I always say:

The high calorie foods aren't going to go away just because we want to lose weight. If we don't learn how to incorporate a moderate amount of 'treats' into the ol' eating plan, the result is frustration and possible bingeing.

We all need to remember that healthy eating has to be a life plan, not a 'only until I lose weight and make my life perfect' plan.

Have your chocolate, and enjoy it without guilt. You deserve it for taking such good care of yourself.Smile

OMG I eat Dove chocolate every single day..no lie. And I've lost 15lbs!! So yes, you can eat chocolate everyday and lose weight. I eat 2-3 pieces, no more than that in a day. But I must have my Dove!

May I suggest those 60 calorie no sugar pudding packs from jello?  I'm totally in love with them because there is no taste difference between that and full-fledged pudding, but its a much better option.  I often dip fresh strawberries in them and its just like having regular chocolate dipped strawberries, plus it fills me up so I don't eat a ton of them:) (The dark chocolate is my favorite, but theres milk chocolate, boston creme, and a vanilla/chocolate mix as well)

^This.

i use unsweetened cocoa powder in my coffee almost every morning and add my sweetner to it to my liking. mmm... i kill that powder, its so chocolaty

As long as you're in your range - you will lose weight - regardless of what you eat.  I have lost over 100 pounds and kept it off for five years.  I've done that by staying within caloric range and it never mattered what I used to make it up.  I can have pizza, burgers or quiche and cous cous.  Just be mindful that, even if you are a skinny-mini, too much fat can still give one heart disease!  All things in moderation for a reason - and weight isn't the only reason to consider!  Enjoy that chocolate!

If I went cold turkey on chocolate, I would never stick to any weight loss plan. Just moderate it.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
