Exercise tips when you are over 300lbs

I want to loose 126lbs and currently weigh 340lbs. I am 6 ft tall a female and have a very sedentary lifestyle. At one point I was fairly fit exercising 5 times a week in the gym. I just need some advice where to start. I work for a USA gym manufacturer and we have an onsite gym at work but I would feel more comfortable loosing weight at gone first preferably 3 stone to take me under 300lbs. Just ordered a wii with Zumba fitness and thought this would be a good place to start. I am on 2100 calories. Can anyone offer me any tips on what else I can do in the privacy of my own home and if the Zumba is good? Thanks guys

How about those handheld weight balls? I have a set of them that are 8 pounds each, and something very easy to lift and play around with while sitting in a chair watching tv. I don't use them as much as maybe i should, but I do find they're pretty good for my arms when I use them regularly.

Large, inflatable exercise balls are good, too. You can put it between yourself and the wall to do some light squats, gently raising and lowering a few times here and there through the day. It's up to you how low to go, so if you have knee pain or anything like that, it's easy to control how much strain you're putting on yourself.

The good old thighmaster! I admit to owning one, and once in a while, I'll do it while I watch TV or browse the web. It makes me feel a little better about the amount of time I spend sitting. I find myself sore if I do it enough, too..so who knows? Maybe the contraption actually does something. I also use it for my arms as it may look slightly silly..but at least it's not downright obscene like that shakeweight.

There was a poster here who had mobility issues due to his weight, and said he had great success with simple leg lifts while seated. He gave himself a daily goal of so many leg lifts, and got some good results from it.

Calf raises..in other words lifting yourself to your tiptoes anytime you happen to be standing up around the house. Up, down, up, down..it doesn't get much easier, and you definitely do feel it in your calf muscles.

I'm sure the Wii and active games it offers are great..I don't have one, so it's not something I've tried.

Even flipping on the stereo and dancing around the house is good, though..so anything works, really. = )

 

 

I'm over 300 pounds myself, and I have bad wrists, so I can't lift weights or do pushups or anything.

To get some activity in at home, I play with my Xbox Kinect. I wouldn't exactly call it a great workout, but hey, it's some activity! I usually log it as "children's games" when I log my activity here.

My apartment complex has a pool, which is unfortunately only open during summer, but swimming is great because it doesn't put undue stress on any of your joints and offer some resistance, so it's kind of like a cross between weights and cardio. It's also the closest I can do to weights with my arms!

If you want to get more boring, there's the standard pushup, situps, calf raises, jumping jacks, etc.

If you have a gym at work, I'd recommend you go for it no matter what you weigh. I understand the reluctance. I always feel like everybody is judging me. I just try to tell myself that it doesn't matter if I'm the fattest one there, since I'm obviously there to change that. If they don't like it, too bad for them! Besides, that insecurity you feel doesn't go away just because you dropped a couple of stone. I still felt it at 280 pounds.

I like using the Wii DDR with the Choreograph, it doesn't use much feet but almost all arm and MAN its an awesome workout. in 45 minutes it says i usualy burn 750 calories... gotta love that!

Walk. That is the best exercise for obese people. I started at 330 and walked over 80 pounds. Diet is going to result in 90 percent of your weight loss anyway, so exercise isn't hugely important in terms of losing weight. Also try lifting if you can. 

Go walking at night. It's quiet, cool, and fairly private. I did for 7-8 months at a local park that runs along the river. It got me under 300. Also a little on the treadmill watching old x-files on net flicks lol.

Personally I don't think Zumba will do much. Ppl that big don't feel the dance that well. I could be wrong, though.
Walk.. There is nothing better than to walk... Walking helps to burn deep belly fat, the one that surrenders the organs... Start walking for 15 to 20 min and slowly add more minutes. Walking is cheap and helps a lot.

I lost over 70 pounds have another 100 pounds to go most of the weight loss was from counting calories! Hit a spot when I could not drop any more weight. I started the treadmill , I have a bad back off work for over five years. I'm tired of being I've weight so I suck up the pain. Wish all the luck in the world! Don't give up!
