cmommi76- you continue to amaze me! I apologize if I've asked this before but how many calories are you consuming each day? And what does a typical day of eating/exercise look like for you?

HI - I am wondering the exact same thing. cmommi76, did you really lose 20 pounds in a month? How did you do that? I lost 20 pounds in 2 months and felt like even that might have been a little too fast. (It has definitely slowed down for me- more like 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week now). Tell us your secrets! :)

Got2hetthin,

I drink no less than 90 oz. of water during the day and I stop eating at least 2 hours before I go to bed. I walk 30 min. at lunch and I do 60 min interval sessions on the elliptical machine. So  far I've been good. I know I'll be hitting a Plateu soon. But for right now I am determined to take some weight off before my son's first birthday.

Breakfast: 1/2 cup plain 1 min. oatmeal with 1 med. banana

Snack: 1 small apple

Lunch: 1 4 in. wheat pita bread w/ 3 oz.  low sodium turkey cold cuts or; 5 oz. groud turkey meat or; 3 oz. pouch of tuna with 1 tbsp. mayo., 1 slice 2 % american cheese, some 6 baby carrots or 1/2 cup of broccoli.

Snack:  Protein Bar

Dinner: 6 oz. chicken breast or 4 oz lean beef, 1 cup of green vegatables, 1/4 cup rice.

Snack: 3 oz. yogurt and a protein bar.

I change up my menu so that I don't get tired of it but I keep it simple so that its easy to make. I also keep Lean Cuisines and Lean Pockets for the days that I dont want to cook. But when I do  cook I use little to no salt and measure everything.

Its all about portion control.

Justamom,

Its just good old fashion COMMITTMENT. I would not benefit from lying about my weight loss.

I made a promise to myself to lose at least 20 lbs before June 13. Now that I've done that I'm trying for another 20 lbs. I doubt that I will make this goal before June 13th but I will be close to it.

I dont go out to eat I haven't had a drop of liqour and I only drink water. NO juice, or soda. I have BS'd long enough and now I'm determined.

I thoght these Forums were for encouragement and motivation? That's why I joined and it has helped me.

Any particular brand of wheat pita and protein bar you prefer?  And do you use brown rice?  I too was using Lean Cuisines for lunch but because of the amount of sodium in them I have cut back.  I do agree that they are a nice option for when you don't have the time to cook from scratch.  Given that I do not love vegetables, I'm glad to see that while you do incorporate them, they are not all that you eat! Gives me hope for sure.

Do you do any resistance training?  I love the elliptical too.  I just bought a heart rate monitor and was shocked to learn how much the machine overestimates the number of calories I burn!  On average by about 250.

Thanks so much for your advice! I really appreciate it.  I think I've been trying to vary my menu so much that it's become too much of a hassle.  I think you're right in that simple is the key!  Keep up the good work! You are my motivation:)

I eat THOMAS Sahara Pita Pockets 100% whole wheat mini size. I'll only eat the Lean Cuisines no more than 3 times a week. I got my protein bas off of ebay. They're LA Weight Loss Protein Bars and they taste great. I eat two a day and it helps me from snacking on candy bars and things like that. But other than that like I said I keep it real simple.

I haven't tried resistance training yet. I'm scared that I might add muscle weight so I'm just burnig the fat right now. Once I get down to maybe 200 lbs. I think I will start with the weights.

I need to get a heart rate monmitor too because every machine gives different readings. Which one did you get?

I'll have to look for the Pita Pockets.  Sounds like a nice break from ordinary bread!

I'm starting with some weight training because I've heard so many people say that the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns daily.  Aside from that, muscle is more compact than fat, so I figure I can way the same amount but look a lot different depending on how much lean muscle mass I have vs. fat.  I just need to find a good routine.  I don't want anything too heavy, just something challenging that will help me become lean and strong, not big and bulky:)

I bought a Polar F11.  In the stores they retail for around 180.00 but I got mine on EBay, brand new, for 110.00.  I've only had it a week but so far I love it! It helps you determine your HR Zone, tracks how long each workout is spent in that zone, how many calories your burn, and what % of those calories are from fat.  It tracks both daily and has weekly summaries.  I think it will be a great tool for me and I would recommend you get oneSmile

Thanks alot. I'm going to invest in the heart rate monitor. I was looking at the F6 Polar but the F11 has more features. I'm sure I can get a good deal on EBAY.  I would like to know that when I'm working out I'm in my fat burning zone and also have a more accuratue count of how many calories I'm burning. Thats what keeps me on the machine. I read that you have to burn 1500 calories in order to lose 1 pound. So what I do is try to burn at least 600 calories per day during my work outs and thats at least 3 days a week. Not to mention the walks I take during the day.

I'm definitly going to get my F11 Polar. I've heard nothing but good things about the F6 and F11.

Thanks Again

It's actually 3500 calories to lose 1 lb.  Whether it's from exercise or diet or a combo doesn't matter.  I found that the machine was saying I burned about 750 calories during my workout, but my HRM tells me it's only about 500!  Big difference as you can see.  I'm hoping it will help me improve the quality of my workouts.  BTW, when you do interval training on the elliptical, do you use the preset program or manually do your own?

Well I am SO happy right now! I have been at this for 2 weeks and I just noticed my pants were a litle looser so I got on the scale this morning and What do ya know.. I already lost 15 lbs!!!! Yay me:) It's definitely a start!! SW: 275 CW: 260 baby!! I am gettin' there!

Wow. That is a big difference. I thought it was 1500 calories to burn 1 lb. That put a damper on my workouts.Yell LOL.  Thanks for the info. I appreciate it. I hope we both can reach our goals .

Oh my goodness - where did you get the idea I was being negative?? Not in a million years did I intend my comment to be taken that way. I apologize sincerely if that is what you thought. I have never ever had anyone respond to me negatively on these messages and I am a little shocked and I am so very sorry if you misunderstood my post. I didn't mean to imply in any way that you were lying about your weight loss, when I asked: "did you really lose . . 20 lbs in a month?" Th word "really" was just an expression. Similar to "WOW, unbelievable. " Not 'unbelievable' like I think you are lying, just 'unbelievable' as in what a tremendous achievement. (Sort of like the way teens use the word "ridiculous" now to mean something good).

Please accept my sincere apologies. Just in case you don't read this, I will copy and send it to you as a message as well.

So sorry to anyone else who read that comment and took it the wrong way. I know that sometimes statements in print get misinterpreted because we can't hear the inflections. In fact, if you'll look, I even followed my original comments with a smiley to help convey my meaning.

Hang in there! I admire your determination to continue until you find the activities and intake that works for YOUR body. You can do it! Keep up the physical activity and working toward your goals.

I didn't weigh in at my normal time so I won't post until tomorrow. I just wanted to check in with you all to see how you are doing.

I didnt bother to read all the posts, so really I am replying to the original post...  I had similar stats and wanted to share.

Height - 5'10"
Starting weight - 215 (maybe a bit more) Jan 2006
Current weight - 146

I have been at or near this weight (+/- a few pounds) for over a year and just wanted to share as a bit of motivation.  There are some pics in my profile of me 'wearing' my old pants.  :)

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hello Ladies,

Last week: 232

This week: 231

I had a challenging  weekend. My friend came in from Florida and we went out and had drinks Saturday night. So, Sunday I didn't have any carbs and I drank lots and lots of water. I'm happy that I was able to lose but I wish I took off more.

Keep up the good work Ladies and stay focused.

Forgot to post this morning so here are my results for the week...

SW: 275

Last Week: 199.5

CW: 196

Goal Weight: 125

Total Weight Loss: 79

Lost 3.5 pounds this week, yeah for eating healthy. I think that was my problem, was even though I ate low cal, I was eating too much processed junk. Or it could be because I didn't do weights last week, guess I'll find out this week since school is done and I'll have time to do weights this week. K. GN.

I weighed myself this morning and here are my current numbers. I think beginning next week I will used the method the author on Stumptous uses, which is to weigh every day and the use the average for her end of the week number.

LW: 238

CW: 235

We can do this! I believe in us all.
