How Much Do You Fluctuate Each Day?
Hi,
How much weight do you fluctuate in one day? Yesterday I was 11st3, today I am 11st6.
I'm trying not to focus on it too much because after all my trousers are still a bit baggy. :o)

omg when I read this I thought that it said "flatulence" lmao!
Usually at least 3 pounds.
But you REALLY need to weigh yourself at the exact same time every single day- because that is the only accurate way to tell if you are gaining weight or not. The absolute best time is first thing in the morning, before you have eaten breakfast or anything. And try to weigh yourself nude. That also helps with accuracy. (or with the same amount of clothing)
You'll probably find that your weight is declining, or staying the same. hope i helped :D

Reading some of the posts, I think 2-3 lbs different is normal. Also, I prefer logging my weight daily because it keeps me "honest" with my journaling. I also put comments in re: what might have happened if it goes up.
I must say I've been raving about this site to my friends and family. I actually enjoy food journaling and cc has made that completely easy for me to do know!

I weigh myself in the morning. But throughout the day I fluctuate about 2-5 pounds. I Only take the morning weight seriously.
lol. 4 pounds. weird, eh? i try not to but sometimes i torture myself. :)
5 to 8 pounds but i'm a big guy
my weight usually goes up a pound or two from the mornings weigh in. i am one of those that get really disturbed or it too. but i just keep on doing it.
I think your size has something to do with it. For a bigger guy like me (I'm 240lbs), I can fluctuate several pounds a day. On Monday I weighed 251, today (Thurs.) 240- same scale, same time of day (morning), same consumption of coffee. I think it is important not to get too caught up in it, though. If you're trying to lose weight over the long term, I feel a 3-month weigh-in gives a good look at actual trending.
So I was curious after reading this thread to see how much I fluctuate during the day (please see my earlier post), so yesterday and today I weighed myself at different times. Yesterday I weighed myself at 7 pm after workout, and I was up 4 lbs. Today I weighed myself at 11:30 am (also after workout), and I was DOWN 1 pound. Obviously, the 7 pm weigh-in was higher because I had eaten breakfast, lunch, 2 snacks, and 100 oz of water, and the 10:30 am weigh-in was down because I'd had less food, a bunch of coffee, and not nearly as much water. Still, I thought it was interesting. I usually workout after work, so I will continue to weigh myself at 7 pm for a few days and see what happens!
What is water retention?
Imagine salt or sugar dissolving in a glass of water. When it is dissolved, you can pour it out.
Your body cannot move salt and sugar around if they are not dissoved in water. Thus, if you eat more salt or sugar, your body will "retain" water; in other words, some of the water that is usually helps rid the body of waste products is used to float the extra salt and sugar through your body. Water makes up a lot of the blood in your body, because it helps keep things flowing properly. That is probalby why women can gain so much weight at certain times of month, because their bodies are expecting blood loss and their bodies want to have enough liquid (i.e. retained water) to sustain them through that.
I sometimes like to weigh myself more than once a day, because I am curious about the fluxuation in my weight throughout the day. However, I never worry unless I am at least 5 lbs above my "lowest low" (i.e. the lowest weight I have reached since I started dieting). If I were 5 lbs above that, I would know to drink a lot more water (I know this sounds backward, but it helps the flush the body of waste and actually helps you loose weight faster) and watch my diet more carefully; if this happened consistently, I would re-evaluate my caloric intake. Also, anytime I reach a new "lowest low" (which is almost always in the morning before breakfast, about once a week or sometimes twice) I record it in calorie count. That way, my weight graph is a beautiful steady downward slide :D.

palegreensocks-I love your name!
Thanks! :D
I had lots of sisters when I was growing up. My feet were bigger than theirs, and they got tired of me stretching out their socks. To solve this, one year for Christmas my mom bought us each our own color of socks. Mine were pale green... I was 13 then, and I wore them everywhere except church for several years. I also liked <not> wearing shoes with them. Thus, in high school I was known as "She of the Pale Green Socks." (I was also friends with "She of the Many Fellows", "Super Big and Tough Printer Man", and "The Grand High Fish". Isn't high school grand?)

I weigh in as soon as I wake up every morning before I eat. (usually) Thats when I'm at the lowest. Thats also the one I beleive is right. But as soon as I have a glass of water I weigh 2 lbs more. Throughout the day I fluctuate 2 to 5 pounds. I drink a lot of water too. At night a few hours before I go to sleep is when it's the highest. I try to stop drinking water an hour before bed And I weigh myself right before bed. It's usually 3 lbs more than my morning weight was. If it's 2 or less I can normally expect a drop in the morning. I wiegh myself a lot throughout the day but I only take the morning weigh in seriously.
Recently I'm trying not to weigh in every day though.

As I understand, my weight fluctuation is unusually large. I vary by exactly four pounds from morning to night, so I weigh myself every morning at the same time. I even drop half a pound after my morning workout, so I try to hit the scale before then.
From one day to the next, you'd be surprised. On week 3 of my cycle, I go up by 5 pounds and stay there for a full week. I've tried everything, and it's still exactly five pounds. I understand most women are helped by lowering sodium, cutting diet sodas, and dieuretics, but I've given up. Why waste energy fighting what my body does naturally? I'll just keep up on the healthy fruits and veggies and wait for the next week.

gee and i've been torturing myself every day because I thought it was just me! Guess that's the last time I think I'm unique, lol. I agree with most people, I weigh in every morning before I eat or drink anything and have gone pp. But, I've been fluctuating around 2 lbs. give or take. I've just in the past few days, have seen a drop in my weight. I think I was drinking too many protein shakes, and it might have kept me at a steady weight. So, from now on i'm getting my protein from meat, fish and beans. And, of course, keeping on my exercise routine. Nice to meet you all!
