What 10 foods would you eat to GAIN weight quickly?

Quote  |  Reply

I just found a little-used site called http://www.fitnesscontrarian.com which has some interesting articles on it.  One of them is about weight loss.

The fitness coach is often asked by his clients why they just can't seem to lose weight.  So now he asks them what 10 foods they would eat if they needed to gain weight quickly

Chances are that they are your favourite foods and they're preventing you from losing or maintaining your weight.  Its an interesting exercise.

What would you choose?

this is an evil wishlist of sorts HAHA

ice cream

cake

pie

pizza

mcdonalds

i hop waffles w/ toppings

bagels & bagel sandwiches

sugary cereals

donuts

chicken parmesean w/ lots of mozzarella and linguini!

cheese cake

lOTS of bready foods, heavy, dense, high calorie breads

Trail mix.  Loads of fat and calories with the nuts, and plenty of carbs with the dried fruits, there's like 600 calories in a cup of the kind I make.  But it's a good kind of fat, with plenty of fiber, and so that's what I'd choose.

Hey, if I'm gonna aim to gain weight why wouldn't I do it in a more healthy way?  AND it wouldn't make me sick as a dog eating 3000 calories of it a day like cheesecake or pizza or ice cream would, wouldn't fill me up so much that I couldn't think of eating like pasta and breads would, so I could keep it up day after day after day until I'd gotten as big as I wanted.

Oh... is this one of those things where we aren't supposed to actually solve the problem, but instead we're supposed to learn some valuable lesson about ourselves?  Too late for me, I'm an engineer, and the valuable lesson about myself is that we solve problems. Smile

Bagels with cream cheese

Pizza with EXTRA cheese

Peanut butter on just about everything

tons and tons of trail mix

nuts without counting out stupid ounces

Candy (peanut m&m's, reese's pieces, twix bars, snickers, peanut butter cups, sour patch kids, etc.)

Donuts

Block Cheeses with crackers

Cake

Cookies

Italian Dishes with lots of cheese in them (lasagna with garlic bread, cheese stuffed ravioli, etc.)

I'm sure there are others. Of course there would be more healthy ways to gain weight and I would definitely be in a sugar coma or "bound" up by all of that cheese...Lmao.

Yes jp5074139.  Chances are the reason some of us aren't losing as much weight as we'd like is because we won't or can't stop eating the calorie-rich foods that sabotage our diet.  Flirting with ice-cream, potato chips, doughnuts et al - all high carb, high fat foods.  So is trail mix.  Delicious, densely caloric and moreish.  Mmmm.

I apologize if I caused any offense.  I'm challenged by the bad stuff just like everyone else, I've got pictures of myself at 95lbs heavier to prove it, and I didn't mean to imply any differently.

But given a problem I have to consider how best to solve it, and trail mix (high in calories and fat and carbs, but also high in fiber and protein) would answer the question "what would you eat to gain weight quickly".  I have to assume I have some good reason I want to gain weight quickly, so I looked for something not just calorie dense but also nutrient dense.

And I could indeed gain weight on that a lot faster than if I tried it with ice cream and pizza, because I really like trail mix and could eat it all day, where just the thought of eating two whole pizzas or bowl after bowl of ice cream every day is hard to entertain.  The first day it'd be great, the second not so much.  We're all tempted by different things differently.

These foods aren't preventing anything but they're my top 10 finalist for what I eat on rare occasion b/c they'll make me gain weight lol...

Pizza

Bread

Pasta

Ice cream

Beer

potato chips

bacon egg and cheese sandwiches

As stated above.. peanut butter on anything

Cold cuts

Cheese

1. Nachos

2. Hot dogs

3. Potato chips/French fries

4. Macaroni and cheese

5. Pizza

6. Cheeseburgers

7. Bagels and cream cheese

8. Fried chicken

9. Egg rolls

10. Wine

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

No offence received here jp5074139, believe me.

We all have our demons.  Mine is probably bread in all its forms.  My special demon is hot buttered toast so I trained myself to eat bread without butter yonks ago (I use mayo or hummus if I must have something to glue a sandwich together).  I can eat a baked potato without butter (to the astonishment of my friends).  However after a trip to Tuscany a few years ago I discovered that good bread dipped in good olive oil with rock salt and coarse pepper is just as delicious as butter and you probably get to eat even more fat that way.  Sigh.

Personally, if I have a binge, I reach for bread every time.  I really can't be bothered to wait for a pizza to cook - I'm not in a delivery area.

Fanfare!  Well done on the 95lb loss - that's stunning!

at the same time it should be kept in mind on that list is also probably some of your very favorites. when you deprive yourself of your very favorites for long periods of time it's likely you'll end up binging eventually so it'd be smart to allow yourself some of the foods on such a list.

1. 1 stick of butter with 3 slices of toast (1100 calories)

2. several cups of sugary juice or soda

3. chocolate bars

4. pasta with butter (instead of meat sauce)

5.donuts

6.cake

7.cookies

8.pina coladas

9.milkshakes

10. mcdonalds

1. chocolate

2. chocolate chip cookies

3. brownies

4. cheesecake

5. chocolate cake

6. pizza

7. popcorn

8. pancakes/waffles

9. whipped cream

10. banana bread

Bonbons and butter.

cheesecake

brownies

fudge

full fat loaded ice cream

lemon poppyseed muffins with honey butter

pizza

bagels with cinnamon sugar cream cheese, and a lot of it

fettucine alfredo with broccoli

steak fries with tons of ketchup

hot cheetos with nacho cheese sauce

I would go back to drinking fruit punch and non-diet soda.  I suspect I probably used to drink a good 600+ calories/day in sugar when I was younger.

Bagels with cream cheese and jam

Toast with almond butter and honey

Tortilla chips with guacamole

Mashed potatoes made with milk, goat cheese, and roasted garlic

Schwartz's classic meal (smoked meat, rye bread, mustard, steak fries, ketchup, half-sour pickle, cherry soda)

Oatmeal with almond butter and strawberry jam

My father's cooking in general

French fries dipped in a milkshake

Fine cheeses with artisan bread and butter

Dried fruits and nuts

LOL! I would choose what I've been choosing: fruits and vegetables and grains in a HUGE amount! I'm a weight gainer (now trying to enter into mantainance) and I would want to gain on junk food. That food isn't my favourite food either. My addictions are rather fruit and things like bread and so :P I eat way too much fruit every day. I also love chocolate, cheesecake and ice cream, but I couldn't eat large amounts of it every day (well... maybe cheesecake yes lool!).

Greek Pizza - double cheese

French Fries

Yorkshire puddings

Chocolate - all types

Jelly beans

White Bread

Pasta

More french fries

More pizza

Bananas

alot of nuts and nut butter.

oatmeal+cooked in milk+1 oz of nuts or more. 2 fruits(banana+2-3 Tbsp of raisins? and 1 Tbsp or more of honey)

high cal dense fruits like dried fruits etc.

oil

higher cal starches like bagels or wraps or pita bread

protein bars or protein drinks or protein powder.
