Quote  |  Reply

i have always loved fruit and can eat fruit the whole day and nothing else...

i eat maybe about 8 servings of fruit each day [ apples, kiwifruits, persimmon, pears...] and eat mainly vegetables and soy products apart from it.

i only occassionally eat meat and dont like highly processed foods... so no chocolate, cake etc...

BUT

i just dont seem to be losing weight, and if i do its with great efforts of going to the gym 2+hrs each day and maybe i ll lose 1kg in a week...

can anyone suggest me what i maybe doing wrong?

Although you really didn't give enough info, I'm gonna assume you're not eating NEARLY enough. You're most likely in starvation mode.

You probably won't get many replies here because it's been said hundreds of times on this site. Healthy eating articles & stuff about the danger of eating too little is all around this site & you can google it. You really need to increase your calories.

my calorie intake is around 1500 per day  give or take 200  most days.

for my height 5'2" and weight 148lb ive been told this is about the right amount of cal per day ... i take all my multi and iron tablets daily too...

Well....you should try eating other things.  Fruit is full of sugar, natural or not...I gain weight when I eat too much fruit....Veggies are a better choice.  I love fruit too...what I do is get some Carrot and Grapes, one for one...or cucumber and apple slices...one for one.  You NEED other stuff too though.

Ill tell you one thing, I am about ur height and once ballooned up to 160...not nice on our height.  I went on a HIGH fiber diet...added "bran" into everything.  Mostly my yogurts, or soups...even my popcorn with BACEL butter.   I lost a ton of weight and didnt mind the bran after a while.  I also used to take some eggwhites, mixed with four teaspoons of Bran scrambled, with a slice of cheese (no fat) and some salsa.  Its great, and filling.   I lost alot of weight..I am 118 now, but I just had a baby 4 mnts ago,  My regular weight is now 108 give or take a pound.....

Fruits digest in ur tummy much faster than most foods, and I personally cannot stay satisfied...then i eat more.

1500 cals seems low, especially if ur spending time at the gym.

=)...

I am not sure how old you are or how active you are, as this can make a difference in how much you need as well, but assuming you are not a teen and exercise maybe 3-4 days a week, 1500 sounds about right for you (I am 5'4" and lost on 1500 cals for quite awhile from 167 - 140 lbs, with running 5 days a week, then I upped my cals a bit and have dropped even more, around another 10 lbs over a longer period of time)

You really need to LOG EVERYTHING you eat.  Fruit, while good for you for many reasons is not calorie free, so eating a lot of it can really add up over a day.  I would guess that you may be underestimating what you are eating if you are finding the scale if not moving.  While WHAT you are eating may not be the issue, even healthy foods eaten in excess can cause weight gain.  Also, for someone your size, losing 1kg is probably a bit too much to aim for, because you would need to create a daily deficit of 1000 cals, which unless you are working out like crazy, is not really possible to do in a healty manner for us shorties.  It better that you aim for a 500 cal deficit every day which translates into a loss of 1 lb per week (~0.5kg).

I hope this helps clear some things up for you

You may be eating too much fruit. A calorie is a calorie, though there are "healthier" calories, you should keep in mind that too much of anything (includign fruit) can add to weight gain.

Everything in moderation, too many people assume that because they are eating well, they aren't overeating.

thank you all =]

yea... everything is good in moderation... except end up eating fruit often as i have a sweet tooth and avoid junk by eating fruit instead.

The high fiber plan sounds good, i was wondering tho, are the dissolvable fibers like metamucil and fibersure effective and safe?

btw- im 19 going on 20 ;]

You need about 70 grams of protein daily.  I have 1/5 cake of tofu almost daily mixed with yogurt and fruit.  Quite tasty. On the days I go to the gym and then to work, I take a high protein bar with.  For dinner I usually have very lean meat w/vegetables.

if you eat too much of anything with sugar, you're bound to gain some weight. granted its much better than eating cookies or cake. But sometimes you need to shake things up a bit with your diet to kick start weight loss. Maybe tomorrow try not eating so much fruit, and maybe eat some fresh vegetables and lean protein. ie, egg whites for breakfast, yogurt, leafy greens etc. Your body gets use to routines and sometimes that can stall weight loss.

If you eat too much fruit, yes you can gain weight.  It doesn't matter whether your eating something healthy or unhealthy, if calories eaten > calories burned, you gain weight and visa-versa.

I'd also recommend you add some protein to your diet... if you like organic vegetarian stuff, lots of nuts, especially almonds, have lots of protein and very healthy fats.

I have begun eating vegetables for lunch and fruit for dinner but I eat something else in the morning and popcorn at night.  I count my calories and do not go over 1200 as that is the amount recommended for me.  Sometimes I eat less.

You need to mix other things into your diet.. if you are trying to lose weight dont eat alot of fruit becaus the natural sugars in fruit turn to fat quicker than fat from those processed foods you stay away from (chocolate, cake ect.) eat less food with carbs because carbs can turn into fat and it takes more work to burn the carbs that to actually burn fat you already have. Eat more meat because it has a ton of protien and protien wont turn to fat. check out bodybuilding.com it has alot more info and lots of diets you can try to help lose weight. An all protien no carb diet will help you tone and lose weight. Laughing

Yes, fruit can be very fattening because it is metabolized differently in the liver. While glucose can be converted into muscle glycogen, fructose cannot. And any excess goes right to fat.

I don't eat fruit, and have all I can do to eat enough grains, vegetables and fish just to keep from losing weight!

Fruit actually doesn't have very high levels of fructose in it. The body processes the amount of fructose in fruit just fine, even if you're eating 8 servings of it like the op. Fructose is only a problem when you're eating a bunch of crap that it is added to, such as sodas. You're losing weight because of a calorie deficit, not because you're not eating fruit.

You are losing 1kg/week, be happy! That is 2.2 pounds which is outstanding!! I wouldn't worry about the fruit, i have never met an overweight person who got fat or stayed fat from too much fruit. I eat piles of fruit and i lost 120 lbs in 15 months.

Why are you using this hockey legend's name? I know you are not him because he would not have 120lbs to lose!
