So, last week I was stuck at 137 all week, which was a little bit frustrating, but I stuck to my diet.  Then I read the posts about fluctuating your calorie intake, and having cheat days, so on Friday and Saturday I let myself eat more calories.  Sunday I was pretty good, and yesterday I was right back on track.

My weight pattern for the weekend: 137 Fri, 138 Sat, 139 Sun, 138 Sat, 140 today.  What the heck??

I kept active all weekend, despite the 90 degree heat: ran 1.5 mi Sat morning (okay, I didn't run ALL of it...) and I walked the dog a couple of miles. Sunday was less active b/c I was sore, but I went in our pool for awhile, and played DDR at night.  Yesterday I did the elliptical for 20 min (moderate effort), and played DDR.  All three days I did toning exercises before bed.  WHAT AM I DOING WRONG??

P.S. I weigh myself every day b/c if I don't, I fall into a pattern where I rationalize that I don't need to weigh myself for X number of days, so I can be bad today, etc.  I know that daily weigh-ins can fluctuate, but it helps keep me motivated

WOOHOO! Another DDR player!

First of all... this is why daily weigh-ins are BAD. Because they give you the idea you're doing something wrong when you may not be.

Assuming you're eating at LEAST 1200 calories a day (and you should be eating more if you're active (and running 1.5 miles and DDRing all night IS activity!), than stick with it and give it time. Make sure to drink enough water too.. pure water is best.

Otherwise, keep on keeping on. If it's still not working, you can switch something around. It takes TIME to determine if switches in your diet work, especially if you ARE weighing yourself daily.
Thanks HK. Yes, I am an avid DDR player - been playing since college, on and off.  Hearing it talked about on this site convinced me to pull out the pads again :)

I am eating 1300-1500 calories/day, which I recently (a couple weeks ago I think) upped from 1000-1200 after reading these forums.  Before I increased the calories, I was losing 1-3 lb per week. Since then, I've plateaued, and now actually gained some of it back.  I know that I need to be patient, but...... ARGH!!!
Patience, young padwan.

Action through Inaction.

Ommmmmm ;)

(Just keep doing the best you can. I recently switched to weighing myself once a week because I have the SAME frustrations as you. I'd have a night when I needed to eat a little more and my weight popped back up, then bounded down, then back up, then down, then up. BAH! Bah, I say!
So, I'm weighing myself once a week in the hopes that i just watch it go down, down down :) )
lol....thanks for the meditation...that helped :)

I hear ya about weekly weigh-ins, but I'm really afraid of falling into past routines.  When I weigh myself weekly is when I usually give up dieting b/c I cheat too much b/c I rationalize that I have lots of time to make up for this one cheat (or two, or three....) before the weigh in.
sorry, i'm being really negative....i just need to vent today
hi there -- no apology necessary (i just posted a monster rant).
just wanted to say that you're not alone -- i weigh myself daily for
the same reasons and wanted to yell this morning too.  hope your
day gets better!
lol...becrun, I just posted in your thread too!

I'm gonna add you as a friend...so we can motivate each other! :)
lisad2003 - if you saw results at 1100-1200 cals why don't you try going back to that?
b/c everybody told me that was BAAAAAAADDDDDD
dc.. that's not enough calories. Not to be eating every day of every week.

I respectfully disagree with that advice.
you're a friend too :-)   we'll get there!
we can get through these crappy grumpy days!! :)

I'm off to the bathroom for the 3rd time today!! Ugh!
1100 - 1200 cals is the amount that I have been eating.  That is what all of the calculations have told me to have.  Some days I have a little more but for the most part that is my range that I stay in.
that's what I thought too, but then everybody said that below 1200 puts your body in starvation mode, which scared me into eating me (oh darn!).  It actually has been a great way to diet, now I just need to see the results and I'll be all set!
Understood, and appreciated, but I still respectfully disagree with your advice. I am glad it works for you, but it's akin to me telling people that if they eat less and exercise, they can expect three pound loss per week. It works for me, but it's not sound advice for the average person.

I respectfully disagree with your advice and believe that we should tell people to be eating at least 1200 calories/day.
You said that your muscles were sore, that means you are probably retaining water.  If you took Motrin for your sore muscles, Motrin sometimes makes you retain water.

DRink, drink, drink :-)
I actually didn't take any drugs for once...lol.  I just tried to keep active and drink lots (of water, of course).  I'm appreciate all of your comments, you all have been a big help...just getting out  my frustrations has helped my mood a ton today...I'm feeling motivated again...so THANK YOU! :)
I am also fairly new to the group and can relate to all of you.  I also weigh myself everyday and am frustrated with the scale.  I have been exercising on average 3 days a week on the Eliptical trainer for 45 minutes, burning 318 calories.  My total average is around 1300 calories, this does not include the calories burned. ? Am I suppose to add the calories burned in my daily consumption.

Thanks,

Timbergrove
