How Did I Gain 2 Pounds in One Day?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, this one is really confusing me.

I lost enough weight to get down to 130 (Yay!!Smile) but then I got sick and couldn't exercise, so I gained back to 145 (Sniff Cry) and since then I've been trying to lose but I keep finding that sometimes I gain 2 pounds in one day. I really don't get it! I read once that there is about 3,200 cals in a pound and I'm sure that I didn't eat twice that!

A lot of it could be fluid retention.  You're body weight can fluxuate between 2-3 pounds in a day because of water....also if you had an excessive sodium intake your body would retain more fluid causing a slight weight gain.  I wouldn't worry too much unless the average starts to go up.  :)

Who's to say you actually gained 2 pounds though. Maybe your scale is off, maybe it's water weight, maybe waste, maybe it's your clothes, maybe it's a combination of all those things. I think a 2 pound difference is too low to actually accept as truth. It could be anything.

Ahh! that makes sense! thank you!! :)

Every single day I weigh 4lbs heavier at night than I do in the morning. My 'night' weight helps me guesstimate what my 'morning' weight is going to be. Guess which one I log! Tongue out

Same here. My weight always fluctuates by as many as 5 pounds. It's normal.

I'm the same.  Its work keeping in mind that if you drink a litre of water you will then weigh a kilo more than you did just before you drank the water, because that is what the water itself weighs.  If I weigh myself in the morning, before eating etc, then at night, after drinking a litre of water, eating dinner etc I can vary by 8lbs sometimes (I drink a lot of water though, so my weight depends on how much is currently in my system).  Try to be really systematic and consistent about when you weigh yourself and don't drink or eat for an hour beforehand.

agreed - it's most likely water weight.

try weighing yourself in the morning when you haven't put anything in your body yet.

^yeah. Also, a lot of women fluctuate TTOTM. I don't know if you're a chick, but your journal posts make me suspect.

I weigh in to log every morning (& step on the scale throughout the day out of curiosity). This is my a.m. log for the last week, the first half I had my period:

SW: 118: 120, 126, 124, 121, 120, 118, 117 (today).

Even sans period I fluctuate. My graph chart looks schizophrenic. Think of how much we change: water, poop, stomach contents, armpit hair...

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
