Total = 128 oz!

Has anyone heard this recommendation, to drink one gallon of water per day? That is twice as much as the usual recommended 8 glasses. Is anyone drinking one gallon of water per day?

you're supposed to drink 64 ounces of water a day which I worked out to be 2Litres which worked out to be The tall poland spring bottles....

hope this helps ya...
A gallon a day is alot of water!!
Wow.  That's a lot of water!  I've always heard 8 glasses of water per day, but interestingly enough I just finished the book "Freakonomics" by the economist Steven Levitt.  He claims this number is based purely off myth and there are no scientific studies backing it up....so, I'm fairly confused!
Can I take a laptop in the bathroom and work from there? cause.. a gallon of water... whoa... (ix, i have pictures of fabric for you! I just have to get em off my camera and email em!)

I drink close to that, at least 110 oz a day. I am small 5'1" and 109 (today!). It hasbecome habit for me. I also livr in sunny california where it seems one could be more thristy, lol. ZIt has helped curb both appetite and cravings. my over all loss has been 75lbs.

Louise.
I aim for between 64-96 oz per day, and I think 96 is a lot as far as the bathroom is concerned. It also heavily depends on your activity level and where you live. I'm in high altitude dry climate CO, in a few weeks I'm moving to below sea level, high humidity FL. I'd recommend you looking up Rahana's link to take this quiz that asks these types of questions. It seemed very accurate! I think it was yesterday?

Water makes you feel better and look better... maybe the 8 glasses a day is a myth but it makes me feel great so I'll continue with it. If I was drinking sodas all day and then worked out, I'd feel awful. So how can it be false? I don't know... crazy!
Yikes I might be close to that.  I drink 6 of the 1 pint bottles while at work, then when I am at home I drink 2 - 3 of the 16 oz bottles.

Now you would think I have had enough to drink but I also manage to drink 3 16 oz drinks (in a 20 oz glass, I use lots of ice) that consist of 8 oz cranberry juice, 8 oz of mineral water and lemon juice.

Some days I even manage to drink more.  When I workout I add another 16 oz bottle or two.
I drink 64oz as a minimum.  As long as I don't drown, IMO more is better.  I drink probably around 96oz a day on average.  Some times a glass or 2 more, sometimes less.

I just keep filling my 24oz Aquafina bottles.  3 bottles a day minimum doesn't seem like so much.  My 2cents; if you need help getting more water in, drink from a bigger bottle.
I usually drink a lot of water too. I'm sure I've gone a lot of days drinking a gallon of water but then I'm up at least twice a night running to the toilet.
Thanks Louise, that is very interesting to hear. I try to drink 10-12 (8 oz) cups per day, but some days I am really bad and only have 4-6. I am going to try to get up to 16, every day.

I always thought the 8 oz per day was a myth. Just looking at the facts, someone might weigh 100 lbs and someone might be well over 200 lbs, you would think that the heavier person would need more water. I know that survival studies state that you need at least 32 oz per day to survive.

Thanks everyone for the imput. If anyone has any links to any articles about the benefits of more than 8 oz per day, or an article about how heavier people need more, that would be interesting to read.

(Yeah! Saroful! I look forward to the pictures! You can even upload them to a Flickr or Photobucket account if that would be easier for you.)
You know, I probably DO drink about a gallon a water a day. Know what? It sucks.. because unless you have the capacity to get to the bathroom every minute you need, you'll find it very uncomfortable.  I've gone to the bathroom, headed to the car, driven 15 minutes and had to go to the bathroom again. That sucks.
In essence, I don't think 1 Gallon of Water is right either.
I think you can drink too much water.  I'm not sure what too much is.

I got this on About.com
Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia.

and then this:

The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition.

Try to make drinking 1 litre of water before every meal habit, not right before mind you or you couldn't eat. It is possible to drink 4L a day if that is all you drink. I allow myself 2 small cups of coffee in the morn and then all I drink is water. It took years to develope this habit. I was a juice freak before and now I find it too sweet and have to water it down. The only juice I will allow myself to drink right now is sugur free cranberry cuz of kidney problems. I use a 1L bottle cuz it's easier to keep track of. I also like to put it in the freezer for an hour then drink it. Cold is good.
My mother (a nurse) has extensive knowledge on this because she has Hepetitis C.

She started a chemotherapy treatment to get rid of the Hep C, and she is required to drink AT LEAST one gallon a day (which IS hard to do!)

What Layna wrote is true, you can drink too much water, but it is almost impossible. You would have to literally be drinking water CONSTANTLY all day long. The maxium is *just* under 2 gallons.

So don't worry - drink all the water you want!
I just got back from walking. I am very close to my goal of drinking 1 gallon of water today. I'll post again this evening and report.
I THOUGHT YOU WERE GONE!!!!!!!!!! I'VE MISSED YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

*crazy person leaves, replacing herslef with Amber*

Hi! I've missed you! I heard that it's good to drink at least 64 oz, so I do that as a minimum, but I have drank 3 quarts today.

hehehe had to tinkle a ton in the bathroom from work though!
Hehehehe... I was gone. I went on a nice relaxing vacation. =) And I have been lurking on the forums.

I just want to let folks know that is is possible to drink 16 (8 oz) cups of water within 12 hours. I am on number 16. So one gallon of water. I have to go pee now!
I have been drinking 1 gallon of water a day since January when I started my lifestyle change. So it is possible and  recommended.
dgiger how has your lifestyle changed? just wondering
Rahana316, do you mean as a result of just drinking a gallon of water a day? I set up a routine that fits. For example, I drink 20 oz. when I first get up in the morning (after weighing that is). Then I drink 20 oz (I drink in 20 oz increments) on my way to work. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to work. Then I drink 20 oz. around 9:30, 20 more at lunch, 20 more at 3pm, 20 on my drive home, usually 20 before working out at the gym, 20 while working out at the gym, and usually 20 oz with my evening meal. However, my routine changes on the weekends so I mark in a small pocket notebook each time I drink 20 oz. That is to remind me to drink as well as telling me how much I have drunk.
