What a good amount of good fat and what a bad amount fat looks like. (Photograph)
This is a graphic photo that I took earlier today. If you can not look at fresh meat at a meat counter, do not click on the link.
In the photo, I have an example of what a good portion of fat to meat ratio is, and then an example of what excess fat to meat ratio looks like.
For those who are really curious about the scientific details, this was from a 1/4 of a rib cut. I cut off the excess fat and made a little pile. This was not fat under the skin or close to the bone. This was from an overweight animal. I find it interesting to think that this is what I can not see, this is what is in me if someone were to cut me open and take a looksie. Eeek!

I find the picture somewhat disturbing, somewhat educational and definitely motivational. Please feel free to save to your hard drive, if you wish. Let me know if you find it interesting or helpful.
EDIT: If you want to see something like this in person, find a farmer with an overweight cow or sheep, who is planning on slaughtering the animal. This is how I got my photogragh. The average healthy weight for a sheep is 150-200 lbs.

Ahh, the link won't work!
I fixed it. Try again. Sorry about that.
Truly an eye opener. I know that when I go to sleep tonite this is what I will be thinking about. Now I have the visual of true fat I need to find one for melting fat. Thanks for the post, you just gave me the extra push I was looking for.   ; Tammy:)
lol it just made me reeeally crave some BBQ goods, haha
My boyfriend's family is from the Ukraine, and at Easter it's tradition to eat pure amimal fat. They have a specific word for it. I tried to resist eating it at the Easter lunch, but Steve's dad had just visited the Ukraine and brought it bake with him, so it was pushed on my plate. Let's just say... pure fat does NOT taste good!!
Tonight or tomorrow I will post a picture of what a living with a layer of fleece, overweight sheep looks like in comparison to a group healthy weight sheep. Overweight sheep have difficulties reproducing. It's very difficult to control a sheep's weight, because you aren't sure who is the greedy in the Winter, eating extra feed until you get them all outside in the Spring and can see them in the light of day. It's also not easy to exercise a sheep, unless you want to spend all day chasing it around the pasture.
That was truly motivational! Thanks for posting!
Thanks. I am sitting here starting to post pictures of sheep for an example of a normal weight sheep and an overweight sheep. I will post the link very shortly.
Ok, here we go! I posted some pictures of sheep on my blog, www.ix.com
To see a photo of an overweight sheep in comparison to normal weight sheep, it is the 13th picture down (or 6th from the bottom). The file name is 061206M.jpg The sheep in the picture, which is overweight, if you can not tell, is 5th from the left (3rd from the right). You can tell not only in the sheep's body, but in the sheep's face. Sheep share many biological characteristics with humans, which is why one was cloned and why it is considered for growing human organs. I don't want to get into an ethnical discussion about this, only to say, that sheep insides or somewhat like human insides. So here you can see an overweight sheep, and think about how it relates to you. Enjoy! Please let me know if you find this kind of information helpful or inspirational.
