Green Tea with Sugar

Quote  |  Reply

I have been replacing my soft drinks with green tea.  I started with the prepackaged bottles, and that was easy to get the nutrition information.  But then I decided that it was cheaper and healthier to make it myself, so I get the green tea fruit flavored tea bags, and add only a cup of sugar to it.  I know that without sugar it has no calories.  My question is how many calories is it per cup, once you add a cup of sugar to a gallon of tea.

I'm trying to count calories and slowly cut back, but not knowing how many calories that is now, I'm not sure how to count it.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One cup of sugar contains approximately 775 calories.

How many ounces are you making of the green tea?

Say you made a jug of 64 ounces of tea and add the cup of sugar to it.

8 ounce glass would yield you an approximate 98 calories.

have you considered plain green tea? strangely enough it's much easier to drink without sugar than the fruit ones. I always add sugar to fruit tea, never need to with green tea.

for your question, if the tea is 0 calories, just count the calories in the spoon of sugar

Try plain green tea with no sugar, but for the first little bit add maybe some lemon or lime to make it a little more flavorful. I found green tea becomes sorta addictive and if you get used to drinking it with no sugar, just tea and water, it makes other sugar drinks taste way too strong.

There are 128 ounces in a gallon of water. If you're adding a cup of sugar to a gallon, that's 775 calories.

Your gallon of green tea contains 16 cups (16, 8-ounces). Let's say you drink one cup (8 ounces) of your green tea with sugar, that would be ~49 calories.

Can you try splenda or truvia instead?

Splenda is sucralose which kills the good bacteria in your body and isn't healthy. Truvia isn't much better. They might be good for calorie counting but not anything else.

raw honey would probably be best

I'm looking online and seeing that there are 16 8-ounce cups in a gallon, and there appears to be 15 calories of sugar per teaspoon, 48 teaspoons make a cup, so if I take 48 teaspoons to a cup of sugar, divide by 16 cups in a gallon I am guessing that there is 3 teaspoons to cup of sugar, making it 45 calories per cup.

Does that sound right to everyone?

Thanks.  I am seeing it now.  That really helps.

Use liquid stevia in green tea. Green tea is a natural fat burner and liquid stevia is just stevia and water. Stevia is all natural so it's actually good for you. You can get it at vitamin shops or some gnc stores.

A WHOLE CUP OF SUGAR???

USE STEVIA, OR LEARN TO DRINK IT PLAIN

But honey contains the same-ish calories as sugar which is sort of missing the point of not using sugar. Smile

Most people do OK on artifical sweetners and it is up to the individual to balance the assorted alleged risks associated with them with the known risks of eating lots of sugar.
