not pills or anything commercial...

i am ALWAYS hungry and was wondering what do other people do to distract themselves from giving in and eating something just to eat, satisfy a craving or hunger? i am trying to break the cycle and train myself to eat to live not live to eat. any suggestions?

DIET coke, gum, apples, fiber, water, tea, hot cocoa....or give yourself a treat, go to the hairdressers, buy clothes, phone your best friend....
I drink 2 or 3 glasses of water.
I get out of the house without cash on me--so I can't buy snacks (go for a walk or window shopping).
Brush your teeth, exfoliate, do a pedicure, etc.
I also chew gum but I've seen people on here say that makes them more hungry (I just like chewing, plus it burns some tiny amount of calories, like, the amount in a stick of gum).

I also try to make my bedtime earlier.  I tend to give into cravings after 10pm . . . so now my bed time is 10:30.

If I do give in, I do jumping jacks, lunges, etc. while the food is cooking or before I can eat the ice cream or whatever.  At least I'm burning off something.

Somehow a hot cocoa in combinatin with somethng high fiber really fills me up...like I want to explode. So like cocoa plus a whole grapefruit, or four cups of hot-air poped corn.  Both combinations are about 200 calories.
Exercise...somehow it seems to supress my appetite, perhaps because I get too tired to eat.
Eating 5-6 small meals a day and never letting myself get _really_ hungry. Also gum, tea, and Diet Coke.
I primp. I don't really want to eat with such beautifully applied lip gloss, hah. I also like diet Mountain Dew, but it tastes a little more fakey than other sodas, so if you're not used to diet drinks try Coke Zero or Diet Barq Root Beer (most regular tasting soda I know).

The other suggestions are really good too, and a manicure to go with those lovely toenails!

You could also try meditation, or 'envision' therapy (like, imagining yourself at your goal weight, glowing, happy, svelte, whatever your perfect image of health is, then paste your face onto it, hehe)
gum saved me! also, tea is great. i found that a lot of time i really just was bored, or wanted something to chew on, or ate out of habit, and wasn't really hungry.
I'm a firm believer in diet soda (anything, really, but pepsi one is my favorite). Also: sugar free gum, crystal light, and TONS of water.

Chocolate-covered cinnamon Altoids!  Believe it or not, when I eat one of these I get a sort of "bloated" feeling and don't want to eat.  I keep them in my purse at all times.  I swear I'm onto something here....!
be careful with diet soda. there have been a lot of articles on the danger of it :)

try some green tea instead! :)
coke zero is the answer

Crushed Red Pepper (I put it on salads and everything I can think of) and Cinnamon (like gum). Those are both proven natural appitite supressants....
I munch on green grapes. Lately i've been taking a vitamin and GOD AM I HUNGRY lol. So i just walk away quickly before i regret it. =P
if i'm starving, i have a stick of trader joe's string cheese...i had some once about an hour before lunch and wasn't even hungry for lunch!
I drink tea, then brush my teeth, and then go for a walk or something. I don't always walk though. I just have to keep myself busy.
Water.
Lettuce.
Most green vegetables.

Usually when most people think of supressing appetite its not the hunger that literally makes your stomach GROWL.
It's the little cravings you get when you're sitting at the computer and you know you're not hungry but you just feel like you could use a bag of chips or something.

I'm a huge "Craver" or whatever you want to call it.
Follow my advice.
Drink a glass of water.
Wait it out 10 minutes.
It's almost GUARANTEED to go away.

Either that or you can always go to bed haha :P
Unbreaded, seasoned frozen fish fillets. 200 calories for two fillets, and it's pure protein. Nukes in seven minutes. Combine that with a can of low-cal soup, and you're good for eight hours on a total of about 400 calories.

And make sure you drink plenty of water.
Very easy, I pick up a copy of Us Magazin or In Touch and look at the people inside. Then, I suddenly don't feel like munching on something not diet, like oh say chocolate or peanut butter M&Ms anymore. I allow myself something better like low fat yogourt or an apple, with lots of water. I'm satified and happy I didn't give into the urge of having junk.
i agree with chunkylard...

waiting might be your best bet.  it tends to pass

everyone says drink water, but water does nothing for me...almost makes me feel hungrier for some reason.
hot chocolate :) especially the limited edition saches of options coconut hot choccie from asda :D i think thats about 37 calories or something? or a banana or some other kind of fruit
