Holy Crap! I gained 10 pounds in 12 days!

Quote  |  Reply

Wow.... talk about a holiday binge!  I previously lost 23 pounds in 3 months with the help of this site, dropping from 238 to 215 from September to December.  Then I took a Christmas break and on my first trip back to gym today, I weighed in at a hefty 225.... Can you believe it??  Hopefully it will drop right off after a week or two back on the wagon.

Anyone else have horror stories to tell?

 Mike

water retention from all the sodium

possibly going to start your period soon?

Last Christmas I was up 8 lbs but 3-4 of them dropped quickly afterward, so I guess it was just water retention. Give it a week or two, I'm sure it isn't all real gain.

I'm guessing "Mike" is not about to start his period soon.

I agree though, I'm sure some of that is water weight. Chug some water. ;)

Well, Mike -- are ya gonna start your period soon? LOL

I put on 6 pounds between 14 -29 December -- but it all came off as soon as I got my water back to where it should always be

Lots of calories in egg nog and other holiday drinks, and of course fruit punches.  And those pecan pies are dynamite.
You should expect to put on 5-10 when you go off a diet.

Depending on your follow up and personal factors determines if its there to stay. Those extra cals went to your body restoring the glycogen. Along with volume and sodium retention....

Get ready for the WOOSH soon!

I don't think Mike's going to get a period... unless it's short for 'Michaela' :P My weight went up a whole pound on New Year's Eve and I KNOW I didn't eat five thousand calories, so I'm not worrying about it - half of it was gone again the next day and I'm sure the rest will follow... but if one day's indulgence can equal an instant pound, I'm not surprised that two weeks equals ten.

I gained 15 LBS in 8 days last May.  I'd gone from 175-164 over 5 months, and I was just starting to feel like I was beginning to look good, and it just started with a very hot day and a bad mood, and I started eating and couldn't stop for weeks.  Over the first 8 days, I gained 15 LBS.  Over the next few months, I gained more slowly.

It takes months and months to lose weight and it can take mere days to put it on.  That's just how it is.  Do anything you can to learn to avoid that behavior, bingeing.

Thanks everybody... nope no period for me :P

I'm not freaking out just yet.  I'll get my eating back on track and start hitting the gym again, and then see where I am in 5-7 days.

I'll keep you posted!

this is definately water weight....don't sweat it, remember easy come, easy go also applies to weight ....

@ milfred...even if you binge ate for 8 days it is unlikely that you gained 15 pounds...in fact it is merely impossible...the vast majority of that was water weight...

as my nutritionist told me when I had binge eating disorder and would flip out over my instant "weight gain" whenever I had an episode...that instant gain is not the thing to worry about, the slow, creeping on weight over longer periods of times is...just keep that in mind...the best thing you can do is go back to your routine and to not beat yourself up, it was a holiday, it's over, and your now back on track... :-)
I'm thrilled I only gained 2.5 lbs.  The way I was pigging out on everything, it could have been worse.  I hope to get on track in a couple of weeks too.
I stepped on the scale this morning with the same shocking results. 10 lbs since about Dec. 15. Gotta get back on track.

I was down to 204 from 240, settled at 212 for a while,  but am floating in the 225 range right now (230 this morning = pissed). I need to get the weight back off. 191 is my healthy BMI, so keep on keepin on!

Easy come, hard to go...

I only gained about 1.5-2 lbs too! I can't believe it. I ate tons of food over Christmas. Maybe it's just not as much as I was eating before?? I see now that it could have been a lot worse.

Problem is, I'm having a very hard time getting back to eating right. From October to December 19th I was doing very well. I lost 10 lbs (since August, 17lbs). But now I can feel I don't have the drive to keep going like I did! NOW WHAT!?!?! I was so proud of myself for sticking to it. How do I get that spark back!?!?

Anyone else with this problem?

again, any major "weight" gain that is appearing on your scale is mostly water weight and will fall when you return to your eating patterns prior to when you strayed from them during the holidays...some of it is certaintly fat, but NOT all 10...10 pounds calories wise is A LOT of food, especially in the course of such a short period of time....

any weight that comes sooo easily, will be easy to get off...it isn't real...

in this case it is not "easy  come, hard to go" but rather "easy come, easy go"

Yes, I'm having this same problem.  I've been off my healthy lifestyle for the past couple of weeks and I KNOW I've gained weight, although I haven't weighed myself in 2 weeks (I will in the morning and am not lookng forward to it).  Anyway, someone posted something earlier that helped me.  She said she's in the same situation and when she weighs herself on Tuesday she's going to consider whatever her weight is as a "new starting point."  I think that's a good way to look at it and that's how I'm going to look at it too.  As for getting that spark back, I'm really not sure how to do that either.  Maybe if I take a good look at myself naked in the mirror it'll help.  ??

I can't stop laughing at all of the "period" comments.  LOL......

Poor Mike........Ha, ha, ha..........

uhuh its a combination of fat and water weight I was panicking to but I've lost 8 of the 10 lbs I gained over Christmas already, but I cant enjoy myself without food even if I did get carried away and sort of binged,
5 lbs up on the scale since X-Mas.  I'm back on the healthy eating plan again and counting again.  It's fine though because it is healthy to be able to splurge now and then without serious guilt.
Looks like there are a bunch of us in the same boat! LOL! I had lost 85lb between March-December and I gained a horrifying 12 lbs between mid December & the end...just a little over 10 days or so....What are you going to do! Just have to get back on the old wagon and chug along....pushing that water & exercise BIG time!
I gained about 8 or 9 pounds from christmas break... oyyyy, oh my.

I'm glad to be away from the left-overs and holiday chocolates!
