Can being hungry be a sign that your metabolism is speeding up?

I take in anywhere between 1600 to 2200 calories per day.  Recently though I find I am super hungry...  I was just wondering if this could be a sign that my metabolism was speeding up or if I was just trying to fool myself into looking on the bright side.

I don't know about that, but I do think one of the functions of hunger is to tell us that we need to eat so our body doesn't have to dip into it's fat reserves to get fuel to burn.  maybe that is wishful thinking . . .

but, another reason may simply be the old saying about eating food that sticks to your ribs -- meaning, that satisfies appetite for longer periods of time.  does your diet contain enough protien, fiber, and carbs that are low on the glycemic scale, such as whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables? 

I eat only once a day, during a four-hour period.  That means I go 20 hours without eating. I only say this to make the point that I go the entire time, to within 30-60 minutes before it's time to eat again, without feeling any hunger, and then it's only mild hunger.  That is because the foods I eat, though low in calorie (today, 1320 calories), are filling foods -- both physiologically and psychologically. 
when your stomach is hurting, it means that it is burning muscle, not fat, to feed itself and saving the fats for a day or two later (for instence, lost in the forest with no food for a week) to burn.
When you are hungry it means your body wants more food (or water) so chances are you;'re burning more. This doesnt mean eat a hwole piloe of junk it means increase your cals by 50 per day, by 200 and see if you're still losing weight
Hunger often = thirst.  Try upping water.  Definitely try upping high water content foods.  Veggies, fruit.....since most are so low cal, I can fill up on these when I'm extra hungry for 'no reason'.  Be aware of your time of the month, too.  I'm SUPER hungry 3 days before!  LL,  Z
I would think that the hunger pangs are a result of your body feeling deprived- even though it isn't.

How long have you eaten at your present calorie allowance? I found that when I started counting calories and restricting myself to a certain number (which wasn't even a small number mind you), I started getting hunger pains a lot. In hindsight, I realize that before I started counting, I must have been consuming significantly more than 3000 calories per day- I was just eating WAY too much, but my body had come to expect it, and the sudden drop in intake was responsible for the hunger pangs. I ignore my hunger pangs now, or snack on some celery or water. I expect them to go away eventually as my body adjusts to my weight loss plan. The calorie allowance I have set for myself is more than enough and soon my body will see that it isn't actually starving and lighten up. 
It's amazing how fast your body can adjust to any particular point!

Previous to joining, I have no idea how much I ate a day, but I think it must have been close to 1,200.  I didn't really overeat or binge; I just didn't plan too well. I used to break it up mostly at lunch (when I had time) and at dinner - no time for breakfast!  I never felt hunger pangs at all ... in fact, when I was out with my family (say at a park or shopping), they'd have to beg me to stop and eat, because I could go up to 12 hours without thinking about food or feeling hungry!

I joined the site because I wanted to lose about 10 lbs, but mainly because I wanted to eat healthier and gain some muscle.

The first couple of weeks, I kept my calories at 1,200 (what the site suggested) and didn't really change my eating habits.  However, last week I decided to try this "eat every 3 hours" thing, eat protein and carbs at every meal, and boost my calories to 1,400 to speed up my metabolism.  It's only been one week!  And I am now HUNGRY every 3 hours! Hunger pangs feel strange to me, but I am going with this flow.  I don't even have to remind myself to eat; after only 2-3 days my body decided to remind me all by itself.

Weird.  But true.  I'm sticking with it, but I'm finding hunger pangs highly inconvenient at times! :)  But I've lost about 1.5 lbs this week, (which I hadn't done before), so hopefully it's working somehow!

I would like to know the science and logic behind this. I've never heard this before. Anybody know?
