Find a different nutritionist! There has been at least one fatality from the liver damage caused by this product.

Just adding: Hydroxycut is not even arguing these claims...they are voluntarily participating in the recall.

"Liver damage is rare" There are over 1 million units of this product sold per year. And only 23 reported cases. So out of the millions of people that have used it there are only 23 incidents with one being a death. Any drugs can kill you if you have a reaction to it or just have a weak heart or liver. The product i brought was the "Hydroxycut Hardcore" which are a capsule which contains powder. It is not on the Recall list as far as i am aware.

You asked for opinions.... My opinion too is that this product is clearly not safe.  One death is one too many.  It's miserable being overweight and people are notoriously deaf about health warnings when there's a prospect of being slimmer .... everything from gastric surgery to amphetamines to ephedrine.  'It'll never happen to me'... they say.

Even if you are prepared to take the health-risks with a pinch of salt and even assuming it works, you are likely to become mentally if not physically dependent on carrying on taking a pill in order to maintain the weight-loss.  Whereas if you opt to change your lifestyle to being healthier... managing portions, choosing better foods and taking regular exercise.... that's something you can do for life, won't cost you a penny and has not even a scintilla of a chance of doing you any harm.

My diets fine. Im physicaly active all day. The main reason to uses a diet pill is to aid weightloss. Im wanting to be at my goal weight before my birthday. Do you think i should try a less agressive weightloss pill?

Diet pills don't generally aid weight-loss.  Even the most powerful aids that can be prescribed by a doctor are only effective on people in the 'obese' or higher categories.  And even in those cases the effects are modest, to say the least.

You're already a healthy weight and 10lbs won't make an iota of difference to how you feel or look on your birthday.  Even if there was some magic pill that could melt 10lbs off you without harming your health it would be a little like claiming to have run a marathon when you've actually hitched a ride in a taxi.  ..... you could take no pride in it.   Be happy in your skin, be happy that you have a good diet and plenty of exercise, keep doing what you're doing & be proud of the weight you've lost already.

good point. Ive got 70lbs left to lose before i get to my goal weight which i would love to achieve before my birthday. I think i might go and talk to my doctor. Whats everyone elses thoughts on it?

Sorry, for some reason I thought you didn't have much to lose.  But the rest of the suggestion still stands.

Well knowing that it wasn't good for me, I was desperate to fit into a bridesmaid dress for my bestfriends wedding. I opted for hydroxycut. Needless to say, with proper diet, exercise and 1 bottle of hydroxycut it helped me loose 12lbs. So yes it works, but as soon as I stopped taking it, eventually, over the last year I have gained it back. So its not a long term solution to weight loss, but it does do very tempory fix, but as quick as the weight came off... I'm thinking it can't be good for the body.

Just curious, why do you need to lose 70lbs by your birthday and why not losing weight fast (3 lbs a month which is safe) without pills?

Personally, I have no admiration for people who lost weight on diet pills.

Now I want to know when your birthday is? LOL
I really think that with hard work and diet and NO pills you can achieve a great result and one that will stick better.
Maybe you won't exactly reach a certain number by your birthday, but I am going to bet you you will look a heck lot better if you do it the natural way.
In that way I think going too fast and with pills will have a counter productive result.
I would rather be slightly overweight but VERY healthy than anything else.

Mooi gezegd, Soliwit. Zo denk ik er ook over :-)

You're "nutritionist" sold you something that was recalled by the FDA after the recall date?    Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen to me.  What an idiot.

Ditto.  It's almost comical really.  Your nutritionist must live under a rock!

It's been recalled and is not safe, why take the risk? (there is a sticky about it in fitness forum I think)

Anyhow, Diet pills don't work, because as soon as you stop taking them, your appetite and metabolism will return to normal. Unless you plan to take them for the rest of your life. Do you want to do that?

Reduce your weight, appetite and increase your metabolism the natural way. Eat a sensible diet and exercise more.

I understand the motivation to slim for an event. It's possible most people on here have tried that at some time. But surely you want lasting results you can be proud of because you worked hard (not just popped a pill).

Your birthday is just a day, but if you want to celebrate, then celebrate the fact that you are doing the right things to get and stay healthy for the rest of your life.

This is what gets me.  I don't understand how they can link such a commonly used product to so few cases of liver problems with any kind of certainty.  And what exactly is in hydroxycut that is supposed to cause liver damage? once ephedra was taken out those pills a pretty much just caffeine and green tea extract.

That being said, find a new dietician.  Hydroxycut is over priced and very ineffective.  You could get the same results drinking a cup of coffee every morning.

How do you know it works? couldn't those 12 lbs have just been a result of the diet and exercise?

To be clear before I say anything, I do not recommend diet pills of any sort - I don't think they make much a difference in terms of weight loss. I have never tried Hydroxicut, however I have heard that some of these products improve atheltic performance (and that makes sence by looking at the ingredients).

With respect to the deaths and liver damage, I don't know the specifics around each incidence, and I do not want to minimize the loss of life. But I do know that it is often the case (I won't say this is the case with hydroxicut because I don't know) where with suppliments like this someone dies or has major organ failure because they abuse the product and take 2 or 3 or 5 times the recommended dose. Again, I don't know that this is the case but it certainly would be a factor.

Is the product safe if taken as directed? Probably given the low incidence rate of problems. Is it worth taking the risk just to lose an extra 3 or 4 lbs - not a chance.

Everyone is going to attack me for saying this again but I actually like the product. I don't use it to lose weight, I eat extremely well and work out 4-5 days a week. I simply use it as an energy supplement for increased endurance, as an alternative to coffee or other stimulants. Note that the primary ingredients are caffeine and green tea. I take ONE before working out, and that's it. The recommended dosage is 3 pills three times a day I think, which seems to be a bit excessive. Of course I would never reccommend this product as a stand alone means to weight loss, that would go against commen sense.

Number of people who have died from using Hydroxycut: 1

Number of people who died from heart disease in the US in 2008: 652,091

I used this product once a year or so ago and threw out half the bottle. I found that it caused irregular heart beats, made me extremely emotional and actually INCREASED my hunger. I also gained back the weight I lost almost immediately after I discontinued its use... plus two pounds.

I strongly reccommend you get a second opinion -- especially with the recall. No medical professional worth their salt would reccommend a product currently experiencing so much negative media attention.

I know that I lost the 12lbs once I added the third variable, hydroxcut...and I can agree it was a result of diet and exercise....
