What are the ideal measurements for a female?

Aside from cleavage, because I don't care about that, what are ideal measurements for hips and waist.. my waist is 25 inches now and my hips are around 35.5.. so I want to lose weight from my hips. What are your thoughts?

Not to hijack the thread but, what about the measurements for a male? And also what do pant sizes go by, when it is A x B. I know the B is length but...

My question's similar and I didn't want to start almost an identical thread.

The ideal ratio for hip to waist (not exactly sure who decided this, but it's all over the place) is .7 -- which is right where you're at.

I find that the ideal is whatever you aren't. :-(

pretty sure it also depends on height and body frame size, because at 5'10, if i had a 21 inch waist... well... it just wouldn't happen.

Do you mean the ideal as in what most people want to be, or ideal for your body type? Because it will probably be different, me for example I have small hips and wider shoulders so it's just not possible for me to be the 'perfect' hourglass figure.

 A would be your waist size. So if you wear a size 32x32.The first 32 would be your waist and the second 32 would be inseam/length.

Everyone is different. There is no single ideal set of measurements which can define men or women. Ratios are good, but I don't know what an "ideal" ratio (waist to hip for example) is for a woman. Plus, those change throughout time and are based on cultural norms.

you're kidding right.... A waist of 21 inches.

The typical 7 year old girl has a waist of 23 inches... surely that should tell you something? 

I have 44 inch hip and 33 inch waist.

33/43= .76

The ideal .7 comes from a study done where men looked at female bodies, and regardless of overall smallness, or largeness, they said that women with a waist to hip ratio of around .7 were the most attractive.

 I know the ideal figure for a runway model is 34-24-34, but that isn't a logical goal for most women. 

I've heard that .67 is supposed to be preferred ratio across many cultures. That is, waist/hips = .67. But we all vary so much in body type and can do little to control this. Alls we can do is aim to be healthy. :)

devbanana, A in AxB sizes is the waist measurement.

Generally a 'T' shape is considered ideal in men meaning that the shoulders are relatively broad compared to the waist. But I don't know what measurements correspond to this shape in men.

I don't believe there is an "ideal" measurement for a woman.  The beauty of us, as women, is that our bodies are all different.  Your measurements sound perfect (in the sense that healthy is perfect) for someone with a small-medium frame.

The Ideal Is basically that you are aware of how you appear to others.  There is no "Ideal"  It's what YOU think that makes you "Ideal". 

Ideal is Perfection. Sorry but there is no perfection.  An Ideal form is just an Idea in Itself.

Also interesting how "rappers" have changed their ideals in the women they exploit over the past decades. (Nelly vs. Sir-Mix-A-Lot, etc.)

 

WELL Mine are 45-33-44 and Even though I am not the ideal weight my shape has not changed with my wieght gain i used to be 41-30-40
