Jorge Cruise's Belly Fat Cure

Quote  |  Reply

Hello everyone, I am starting the "Belly Fat Cure" tomorrow.

I have already started reducing my sugar intake dramatically and have lost 4 lbs in less than a week. I have a lot of belly fat to lose. Right now, I am 190 lbs (started at 194) and my goal is to lose 30 and then go from there.

If anyone has tried this diet, please contact me as I would like your knowledge and experience with this diet. Thanks!

When will people understand that the first burst of pounds being shed ("I lost 4 pounds in a week!!" etc) is water weight, and not fat?

Ya, I think we all get that. Its the gaining weight while you are on a diet that is what is  the major concern. I just dont think this diet is for my body type.

calories in vs calories out

Not all calories are created equal. Some foods just affect your body differently than others.

It's been proven in numerous studies that sugar (or anything that raises your Glycemic Index like sugar does) causes you to increase insulin production which causes you to store fat.

I disagree that it's a fad diet. Just because Jorge sells books and is making money off it doesn't make it a bad way to live. It IS a lifestyle.

That calories in - calories out model has you eating low-cal processed foods - made low-cal by using artificial sweeteners usually.

The Belly Fat Cure way of eating eliminates all artificial sweeteners from your diet and uses healthy fats, lean proteins and fiber to keep you feeling full.

Any fruits and carby/starchy vegetables aren't forbidden on this diet - they are just discouraged or eaten in moderation if you're trying to lose a lot of weight. It's just another tool to eliminate excess sugar from your system by avoiding sugar in ALL its forms.

In general, in this country we eat too many processed foods, too much sugar, too many antibiotic, hormone-laden proteins and Genetically modified produce. This "diet" encourages you to start a new way of eating by eliminating all of those things as best as you can - I don't think that's a bad way to live. This is by no means a "quick-fix" diet or a scam. It's based on research and science.

This isn't a diet if you only have 10-20 pounds to lose or you are maintaining, but it works marvelously well for many people who stick to it and are motivated to lose weight. See the best example at this blog.

In that case you wouldn't mind providing those peer-reviewed studies?

Or you could go read up on insulin a bit more. This is a good starting point:

Its multi-part, and I recommend reading it all.

slicey, you've been ragging on this for months.  Why Jorge and his BFD or whatever it is? Why not 17 cupcakes, or last chance, or 4 day, or one day, or any other diet book I could name?  When you resurrect these zombie threads you're shilling for the book peddler.

Like every one else that comes to calorie count and tries to distract people from what they're doing.  Go sell your books over on eBay.

Agreed thhq!!

Wow, what a hater. I'm just sharing this information because this is how I choose to eat, and I joined this conversation in the first place because someone else was questioning this diet.

I'm not a shill and I have nothing to do with these books. And I haven't been "ragging on this for months" - I'm just not here every day. When I come back to CC after an absence I check in on the threads that I've posted on in the past. Someone else resurrected this thread last month. Since this is the first time I've been back since that post I decided to give my two cents once again. I didn't drag this up from the dead.

I don't even know why you're commenting on or even reading this thread if you can't keep an open mind. Everyone is here at CC because they are seeking their healthiest weight and this site is a good tool to track your food intake and activity level. Not everyone here has the same weight goal, however, and not everyone can follow equal diets for their optimum results.

Since other people are just on this thread to bad-mouth a diet that they've never researched, never tried, and don't have experience with I'm here to tell the truth about this diet from someone who actually does BFC, enjoys it, and sees results.

I've been a member here for 2 1/2 years, and I really don't appreciate your statements about me being here for false pretenses. Why don't you take your negativity somewhere else. Everyone here is able to make their own decisions.

slicey I'm here to count calories. Period. That's the program here and I support it. It worked for me to lose 50 pounds and it works to keep it off.

Now tell us the truth about YOUR diet. How will it help us count calories? You've raved about your food choices, but like all other fadders you've left out the tantalizing data calorie counters need: portion size, meal plans, exercise, and the calories associated with each.  We're left with only the promise every other fadder offers: buy the book and you'll find out.

Why not post up the details of "a day in the life" on your diet?  Then we can all analyze it for calories (if you aren't already doing that) and tell you what we think.

And could you post up the results you talk about. Specifically belly fat reduction.  Calorie counting caused my waistline to drop from 42" to 36".  Did your diet produce similar results?

Ajaro: Thanks for the link to the insulin series.  Very interesting read.

The Jorge Cruise diet worked liked a charm for me.  I am 6'1" and went from 205 lbs to 180 in 40 days then another 5 lbs more slowly over next 2 months  (deliberate choice to go slower) and now I am at my ideal weight of 175.  It takes time for the skin to shrink and catch up but my waist went from 38.5 to 33.5 inches and will probably settle out at  33 inches when loose skin totally dissappears.   Strength went up very easily, workouts are much easier, feel great.

For those of you who worry about not having the fruit to keep the sugar down don't sweat it. Just keep the fruit very low for the first month and then feel free to integrate it back into your diet.  It slows the wieght loss a little but doesn't stop it.   Now I eat all the fruit I want without worry.  Through the whole time I had at least one piece of fruit a day.  Minimum of one piece of fruit at breakfast.  Breakfast alternated between oatmeal and high quality nutrient dense salad.  Added chia seeds (1 tabelspoon) and hemp hearts (5 tablespoons) so this gave plenty of plant protein and healthy fats.

Average calories eaten through 40 day period was about 1600 according to food logging tool on this site.  Natural burn rate is about 2400 calories per day and exercise of minimum 600 calorie burn per day for total calorie requirement per day of about 3000. Thus deficit of about 1400/day on average.   35-40% of calories from healthy fats.    Blood pressure dropped from high normal (135/75 to 110/65). Toal cholesterol down 23%, LDL down 35%, HDL up 13%, Triglycerides down 7%, cholesterol "risk ratio" went from danger level to well within normal range (all within the first 40 days). The doctor told me I would never get the cholesterol within normal with diet alone and that I should take the statin drugs.  He was shocked when I came back to show him the results.

Eat all I want now without gaining weight (healthy food only per Dr. Fuhrman video below) and don't count the Jorge Cruise method anymore but scoring is critical at the beginning if you want it to work.  If you try to "do it in your head" or "eyeball it" then don't bother trying the diet. It will not work very well for you.  The discipline of counting will force you to change your food habits.

My wife followed the same diet at the same time but it took her a month for the weight loss to show up.  Her body transitioned from fat to muscle to initially it didn't look like she was lossing weight.  But she achieved her target just like me and is very happy.

Want medical doctor support for eating properly by the Jorge Cruise method.  Then watch these videos.

Thanks for sharing RESULTS kbc, and I'm glad you've used calorie count to show us how you got those results. I also enjoyed watching Dr. Carlson, but was saddened that he didn't mention the importance of activity and portion control. Telling a type 2 diabetic to eat lower carbs is a no brainer. We all know that chips and cookies are the problem, but banning them is not the only solution. With activity and portion control I have eaten anything I liked, maintained healthy stats (BMI, blood sugar, HDL/LDL, BP) four years running, by keeping my 100-200 calorie daily deficit.

I read the Belly Fat Cure a couple weeks ago and began tracking my sugar just this past Monday.  I have created an Excel spreadsheet that tracks my calories, fat, carbs, fiber, sugar, and protein.  Keeping the sugar below 15 grams per day is very difficult because most everything has some sugar in it.  This is Friday and I have already lost 2 pounds this week.  Logging everything you put into your mouth is essential.  This website will help with the logging.
