The key to losing weight.
This really stood out to me and touched me so I thought I'd share it all with you.
There was a girl my age who had been chubby throughout highschool. Senior year I saw her and I was shocked. She was SO much thinner, and it wasn't a stick thin either. It was a healthy, gorgeous look. She looked incredible.
I asked my best friend about this girls weight loss. My best friend said that she was close with the girl, and she asked her about it.
"How did you lose all of this weight?"
"I found happiness."
This simple statement empowered me. If you find happiness, losing the weight is so much easier. Don't rely on the taste of something to make your mood boost. I have recently been struggling my demons and doing things to make me happier, and it has done wonders for me. So although the statement is simple, the key to weight loss is happiness!
Hope this helped anybody.
Very nicely put and nice to see some positive posts up :)
Thats so true - we are so obsessed and fearful through this entire weight loss process - completely zoomed in on this ONE goal - that we don't realise that we are so much better off than others who do not even have the priviledge of eating healthy food...or even food for some!
So lets be happy and grateful for all that we have - and find a postive way of losing weight - how easy is it to lose weight if we are happy doing it!
Its like the saying - if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. If we find a way to enjoy this process, it will never feel like hard work!
I so agree with the statement of happiness.
I know I am just repeating....but you are sooooo right! That is going to be my new goal....focus on happiness. No matter where I am in life, you are right I still am grateful for what I DO have. I am an emotional eater anything that can help much appreciated.
I, also, have been an emotional eater all my life. Lately I have been trying to tell myself that although food tastes great, it is only a temporary fix. If you diet, exercise, and treat your body well, you will be much happier!
Also, an interesting thought: When I was in the process of losing my weight, the first half I ate everything insanely healthy (fruits, vegetables, etc.) I guess I restricted the types of foods I ate too much, because the second half I stayed within my calorie limit but with unhealthy foods I craved (icecream, fried things, etc.) I noticed I felt a lot more energy and a lot better physically after eating the good food than the bad.
Find happiness in something else, try to accept life, and dieting will be so much easier.

Man, I just still like eating food, happy or not. ![]()
Me too. I'm already a happy person, though I'd still like to lose a little bit of weight.

Me three. Even when I'm my happiest, I still indulge in high calorie foods that lead me to gaining weight/ stall my losing weight. I just love food. lol

I know, I'm the same. I always wonder how others (people who are average weight and never had weight issues) do it! Food is so good, it's hard to resist. Lately though I've been doing some deep thinking on my relationship with food. I am trying to suppress eating due to depression and boredom, but I always will LOVE FOOD. Always.
Anyone can cut out junk food and exercise- but if you don't fix the key emotional issue (emotional eating, binge-restrict, eating disorders) one will always have that problem.
If you're happy with your body, you will take better care of it- you take better care of it and it will show.
Very nice bulletin :)
Meh. Found happiness. Sounds kinda new-agey. What happens when she loses happiness again?? Blooomp - 300 lbs??
Show me someone who loses it while being miserable and I show you the real secret of life. It's easy to lose when you are happy. But who's happy!!? And how do I find that when I'm el blimpo??
Meh.
Whether el blimpo or el skinito , weight is not the source of happiness - if you're not sure, take a survey somewhere in Hollywood. When the weight issues are gone, there'll be something to offer you misery - relationships, career, acne... anything.
Happiness and self-acceptance comes first and is dictated from inside you. Everything else follows. Or else you're handing everyone and everything around you the power to determine how you are going to feel on any given day.
Good morning. Nice story about 'happiness.' My new doctor wants me to repeat this mantra every day: " I don't have to get pleasure from food. Food is fuel for my body. My body is healthy and attractive." She said it worked for her. Happiness to all, Margaret.
So true. When I'm happy I can control my portion......now having some problems my weight is not going down!
I never actually thought about it, but that is so very true...

Oh, I don't necessarily disagree with that. Just like money doesn't buy you happiness, but it sure as hell is a good start, I'll tell you that. I'm pretty sure that most of us were pretty unhappy to begin with and that is a part of what sets a lot of us on this journey to better ourselves. And like magic, when the weight starts dropping we start finding some happiness.
I don't hear too many stories of people who despite being obese suddenly go *BING* happiness has set in, let me put the bon-bons down now and run a 5k. Don't usually work that way.
Ultimately you can't have your happiness tied to your weight though and self-acceptance mumbo jumbo. But in the pursuit of it, you probably have to change some things about you. Or just be happy being a fatty. Whatever works for ya. ;-)
Here are some of my favorite happyness quotes:
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.- Denis Waitley
Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it. - Groucho Marx
Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves.- James M. Barrie
The basic thing is that everyone wants happiness, no one wants suffering. And happiness mainly comes from our own attitude, rather than from external factors. If your own mental attitude is correct, even if you remain in a hostile atmosphere, you feel happy.- Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai La
Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.- Abraham Lincoln
Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.- Ralph Waldo Emerson

But what is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads?- Albert Camus
If you observe a really happy man you will find him building a boat, writing a symphony, educating his son, growing double dahlias in his garden. He will not be searching for happiness as if it were a collar button that has rolled under the radiator.- W. Beran Wolfe
The truest greatness lies in being kind, the truest wisdom in a happy mind.- Ella Wheeler Wilcox
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.- Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama
People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.- Ramona L. Anderson
There is a wonderful mythical law of nature that the three things we crave most in life -- happiness, freedom, and peace of mind -- are always attained by giving them to someone else.- Peyton Conway March

Me four. I gained most of this weight from being too happy and eating out and cooking tasty goodies and chowing down with my new husband. I am the happiest and the fattest I have ever been in my entire life. I am just not so happy about being obese.
