Ladies with BMI of around 23 (22 at min. and 24 at max.).. What is your body status????
I'm just curious what the range is for body shapes and sizes :)
I'm most interested in your body measurements but wouldn't mind knowing your height and weight too :) Please indicate your BMI.. and the following I mentioned! also, if you could indicate your race for me too.. thanks!
The thing that triggered me to post this is because of a forum post I read about Asians and BMI. It said that Asians have a different range in BMI classifications from other races such as the BMI range of what would be considered underweight, healthy weight, and overweight. 23 is considered overweight for Asians, while that number is considered healthy, overall for everyone.
I just wanna put this indication to the test. If there's anything that I'm not understanding properly, welcome yourself to inform me!
I'm Asian - BMI 22.6 -34-26.5-38 - 5'6 - 136 lbs
(Technically, I am pretty much overweight. Pretty down about that because I thought I was in the healthy range until I read that article/forum)
Thanks again!!!
I know exactly how you feel. When I went to my personal trainer, I was shocked to find out that my BMI was 23% and it should be 16% by the books. Suddenly I felt fat, but then I realized, wait, this is just a number. How do I feel about myself? Am I healthy? I am only 108 pounds and 5' tall. My family comes from Northern Europe, myself included, and so genetics does have a role, I think. Still, do you feel like you are over weight? Do you look it? I bet not. I would not let a number shape how you feel about yourself. Sometimes numbers can do more harm than good. How do you feel about yourself? That is what really matters.
I think I read an article on the whole 'Asian BMI' thing somewhere. I had also read an article somewhere that argued that Asian, Caucasian and African American should have different BMI because there was evidence to suggest that we all have different density in fat, bone, muscle and flesh. I'll have to dig around for it.
But I can't find my measuring tape, which is just as well as I'd throw any bell curve you're attempt to create completely off--I have a huge bust (34D!) and a rather small waist, with wide hips. My BMI is currently 23 as well and I'm 5'4.
You must be confusing BMI with body fat percentage, Nancy. A BMI of 16 would be very unhealthy.
I think you're a bit confused Nancy. Firstly, I think you're mistaking BMI for body fat percentage and secondly, 16% body fat would be very low for a girl of your age, even if you were training for a triathlon.

There may be some metabolic differences between races but I don't know that it has been studied.
One thing that has been studied is that when you under eat your metabolism slows way down. Then when you eat at a higher level again you gain weight quickly. It also means you will have to constantly cut calories to lose weight. This is not about race but metabolic science.
If you eat 800-900 calories a day your metabolism is SLOW and eating more may been a few pounds gained. This might give the illusion that this is what you need because of your race - but it is only an illusion. Go read up on under eating and starvation mode. I think it will be eye opening.
It's strange but I've been eating like this for a week and now I don't feel as hungry. I still have normal lunch and dinner (I don't usually eat breakfast) but in a lesser amount. When I did the calorie counting it always add up to less than 700 calories. I wasn't trying to starve or anything at all.
I did some research on the undereating and starvation mode and this week I'm going to try eating at least 5 meals a day. Hopefully that'll boost up my BMR.
