20lbs down- but no one has noticed!!

Quote  |  Reply
I lost 20lbs in just under 2 months! I'm really happy as my clothes are baggy and i'm feeling better and thinner. Everything is good and positive and i'm looking forward to losing the next 20. It's just that I expected that someone would have noticed by now and nobody has. I know it's silly and it doesn't really matter if they have noticed or not, but i was just hoping that i might be looking thinner by now. So my question is, how much weight do i have to lose before it makes a difference to my appearance. How much did you all lose before anyone commented on it? :-)

i lost 14 pounds before anyone noticed - but like others my shirts have become more comfortable to ware and i feel much better in myself - my blood pressure has gone down which is great for me

First and foremost, CONGRATULATIONS. Wow! Super job!

It took me about 15% of my weight before anyone noticed.

As it relates to me (a guy) regarding saying ANYthing to a woman about her weight, I think losing 20% of your initial weight will cause eyebrows to raise and, as dmarie pointed out, for people to break their silence and just "HAVE" to know for sure.

I know what you mean about wanting others to notice. I'm exactly the same way, lemmetellya. I'm a highly emotional guy, and I just CRAVE that "validation" from others about my weight loss efforts. I never mention ANYthing about 'dieting.' In fact, not long ago, I got very upset with my wife when she casually 'announced' my weight loss progress to my sister-in-law. My S.I.L. of COURSE congratulated me, but I felt like it was kind of an 'obligatory' thing. I should just be happy with the compliment, I know. But I'm weird that way (and, come to think of it, many other ways).

Also, I think it's safe to say here that we all have our "fat" clothes, yes? C'MON!! I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE!!! I think better fitting clothes (not to sound like I'm dissing your wardrobe, mind you!) will cause others to notice.

Of course, you may want to wait until you reach another goal to reinvest in clothes. Entirely your call, of course. It all depends on what motivates you.

I'm waiting until I reach a loss of 50 lbs. before I buy new(er) clothes. I get this sort of macabre enjoyment out of cinching my pants ever tighter and seeing that damned waistband fold over and over on itself. It's like I'm crushing the hell out it!  And, yes; I'm not ashamed to say that I love crushing the hell out of it.

You're an inspiration, Kim79my. A real loser. (Which, oddly enough, on this site means, "winner"). Celebrate your victories, even if it's by yourself in the mirror, and never, NEVER give up. You're going to make it!

All the best,

=DnD

WOW Daniel,

Are you by chance . . . a writer??

I'm right there with you.  I think if you wear your big clothes until you feel that you've lost enough weight to buy new clothes - that's a good thing.

I have, however, brought in a big garbage bag to my co-workers of business clothes that are loose on me.  I don't want to wear them ANYmore!  I have clothes that fit my 217 pound body now.  But let me tell you . . . when I ge to 200 pounds, I'll need to get rid of these as well.

I don't want to have a luxury of "oh well at least I know I can always wear this . . ."

But I should specify that I mean my business clothing.  I will wear these XXXL pajama and sweat pants till I die!! Laughing

Does that make sense?  Maybe it's just my weirdness . .. he he.

I have a big day coming (my birthday party and costume party).  It's on Halloween night and I really want to be a lot thinner by then!!

Thanks everyone!! All your commments are so right, valid and make so much sense. It's so reassuring to know that we're all in this together.

I think you are right about the whole new clothes thing. I think i might buy a few things but i intend to lose another 40-50 lbs in the coming months and don't wanna waste to much money.

I think i'm gonna take your advice and just enjoy the weight loss so far and smile. The end of the day i know what i've achieved.

And also well done to all your weightlosses!! You've all done so well and inspire me to keep going.

Thanks again, you've all made my day :-)

*hugs*

Congrats!  I don't mean to sound too discouraging but I didn't start getting a lot of comments until I hit the 40 pounds lost (SW 238, CW 183, GW 150).  I think, as others have said, people are cautious about this stuff.  One day, seemingly out of the blue, it will be like Bam!  Everyone starts commenting.  You'll see  Laughing

thanks alle0299. 40lbs wow you!!

Can i ask a question?? long did it take for you to hit 40lbs??

And changing the question slightly... how much weight did everyone lose before THEY began to notice they had lost weight. Just to keep conversation going ;-)

Roughly about 4-5 months.  I couldn't really tell on myself until about 20 pounds, and even then I just noticed my clothes were baggy but I didn't notice it when I looked in the mirror.

Well done on the 20 pounds!

Because people don't mention it, it doesn't mean they don't notice.  I lost weight, no one at my work mentioned it - but, the ladies next door to us did, they caught me in the lift and said wow look at how much you have lost.

Some people are afraid to comment on weight loss - its a tricky subject.

"I think you are right about the whole new clothes thing. I think i might buy a few things but i intend to lose another 40-50 lbs in the coming months and don't wanna waste to much money.".

Buy the clothes now, kim79my!  You won't be wasting your money.  It sounds like you are looking for positive validation.  What better way to positively validate your new body (and to keep yourself motivated to continue losing) than to adorn your skinny new self with some really great fitting duds!   You don't have to spend a lot, but you should invest in at least two or three outfits.  Then, if nobody says anything, you will be able to stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself, "you look maaahhvelous!"

I actually reward myself with new clothes whenever I reach a milestone, not waiting for my final goal.  I "pay" myself to exercise, and pay myself a bonus for each 5 pound loss.  The money is set aside, and when I reach a milestone, I buy something new!

... how much weight did everyone lose before THEY began to notice they had lost weight.

FYI, It took about 15 pounds for me to notice the loss on myself.  The good news is, I did have a few friends at work who mentioned that it looked like I'd lost weight.  The funny thing about that is, I slacked off for a while, added 5 pounds and got even more comments about losing.

The thing you have to remember is that while we want to think everybody else is looking at us and noticing our success, it is more likely that they are just like us - wondering about what others think of them.  So, if you see someone who has lost weight you can acknowledge it without worrying that it will sound like you thought they were fat before.  Just say something simple like, "hey, you are looking great lately.  What have you changed?"  Chances are they'll be more than happy to tell you they lost 20 pounds.

I think I'd lost 20 pounds before I noticed any differences (I just caught sight of my forearm one day, and went, hmm, looks smaller, lol), but it wasn't until I'd lost 40 pounds before people started commenting. A couple weeks ago, my workout partner told me that a guy at my work, one I regularly converse with in the exercise room, asked her after I headed off for the showers if I was losing weight. He'd noticed, but was afraid to say anything to me for fear of offending me. Too funny. She told him it's always ok to tell a woman she looks like she's lost weight, as long as he doesn't follow it by asking for her sign, lol.

Way to go on the 20 pounds! That is great! I have lost almost 20 and its beena month or so. NOBODY has said anything to me except for my better half..he notices Wink. I agree with others on the better fiting clothes. Might make people notice. Also it is a sensitivity thing too. I know when someone does finally comment on my weight loss I will probably have a moment of " wow I was that heavy" and hopefully I will have a better moment of " It's working and I feel GOOOOOOOD!" Keep up the good work.

Good luck with the next 20!!!

Congrats on the weight loss!  I just wanted to let you know that you will notice the weight loss before anyone else.  Not so much what you see in the mirror, but you'll suddenly realize that clothes fit better, your joints don't ache as much after exercise, you won't sweat quite as much in the heat, etc.  I just hit 31 pounds lost and people are just now noticing.

31 pounds!!!!!!!!!!  Well done!

You know, it may just be my thoughts - but I think people who have LESS weight to lose - get noticed faster than those of us who have over 50 to lose.  Like one of my co-workers who is about 5'10" and looks fit and trim just lost 15 pounds.  He is so thin looking now.  I probably noticed after 5 pounds.

Yet, I'm 5'8" and have lost 14 pounds.  I think the only person who has noticed is my fiance' (other than myself, of course).

Way to go people!  I'm so excited to get to that point of saying, "I've lost 31 pounds!!!"  Yay!!Sealed

Thank you!  My next object will be 40.  20 will be a big step for you.  Keep up the good work!

I have lost 16 pounds as of yesterday . . . and . . . . a coworker came up to me and told me that it looked like I had lost weight.  Wow - that really does make you feel good!

My new vice . ..  FUZE - Blueberry Rasberry.  It's a kick butt drink that has some boost and only 20 calories per bottle!  I drink it every morning for my "snack".

How are you doing your diet?

wow, now i feel like a whiner!  i've lost 8.5 lbs through hard work (like everyone here) for over a month now, and i've been SSOOOO disappointed that the only person who has noticed is my bf who i live with.  but i personally see a huge difference, in my face, neck, wrists, legs, everywhere, and my clothes fit so much better too.  i guess i'll need to wait until i've lost another 10 or more lbs before anyone else notices, and for now i'll quit my sulking Smile  and i'm glad bf can tell at least!

Congrats on the weight loss, thats fantastic!

And have u considered the fact that people may well have noticed but not said anything? (I havent read all the posts here so this may have already been said, apologies if that is the case) I have lost  weight ( 3 dress sizes, but dont know how much in lb cus i was too scared to step on a set of weighing scales before joining here) and some people noticed and said something, and some didnt. I figured it was just people being observant and some not being so. But later when i was talking about getting rid of clothes to charity shops etc, some of the ones who hadnt said anything told me that they HAD noticed and had discussed it with eachother but didnt know if it was something they should bring up to say. I guess they knew i was self conscious about it and were worried about embarrassing me or something. Still in my opinion I think if u notice, u should compliment. Its nice to get the ego and enthusiasm boost. :)

COngrats again! x

Just wanted to give an update!! People have noticed!! :-)

I have only lost about .4 of a pound more, but people commented today.

So here's to losing the next 20!! :-)

Thank you all for your words of encouragement and support!!

*hugs*

Oh thats awesome! Good for u! And good luck for the next 20! x

First to all - congrats on all the losses.  It is great to hear of everyone's accomplishments.

I wanted to check in too. I am down 36lbs and people are finally starting to notice.  (It certainly took them long enough- LOLLaughing )

It does help a lot that people of CC give you the encouragement that we all need and that kick in the pants that we sometimes need.

Keep up the great work :)

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
