Hello Loser2433!!!

You can doooo this, oh yes you can!!!!!!

(And we're here to help in any way that we can!)

=^..^= MOLLY

Thank you Molly!  That is what I need to hear!  :)

Hey First Belle & Loser!

Happy New Year's Eve to all!

We're staying off the roads, and I'm going to grill steak tonight, with small baked potato & big salad, followed by a bit of champagne.  Haven't checked the calories on the bubbly stuff yet....

Happy to say I am at my lowest now, after a week of Christmas Day gain.  I swear, if I deviate for one day (and I was NOT outrageous that day, either)  I will go up by 3# and it takes a full week to get back down to where I started!   GRRRR.  I know it's partly because I have reached a "certain age" where my metabolism has slowed down.  Oh well, you have to play the cards you've got, right?

Hey Patti and Everyone!

Well it is my first day back at work!  :)  We have an amazing cafe downstairs, but it can be deadly....full of everything I like in the morning....I skipped past the tater tots and hashbrowns....and packed a good fat-free yogurt this morning and drank green tea instead coffee with lots of cream and sugar.

SO Day 2 and doing pretty good!

Luckily we will be all going home early and will be leaving here at 2:00 PM today.  Usually I work until about 6:00 or so and eat very late dinners after a 45 minute ride home!  :(  So that will also help me keep balanced.

THANKS Again for the warm welcome!

-LOSER

Hi everyone!

I just want to start out by saying this group is beautifully organized... I really love the member quotes post on the first page too!

I'm Shannon, from New Jersey and going to school in Philadelphia, working in Wilmington.  I'm 20 years old, and I just joined up with CC a few days ago.  I think this site is great and I'm hoping it helps me out with my New Years resolution to lose some weight and take care of my body!

Current weight is about 240 lbs, 5'4", and a size 20.  My first goal is to lose 30 lbs by March, when my boyfriend and I are taking a trip to North Carolina for some R&R.  Then my next step is to try and get to 190 by June, and to eventually get myself to about 135-140.  Ideally, I suppose I should lose a little more than that to be in *perfect* health, but I think that's a good target for me.

I think my biggest challenge is sweet stuff and carbs.  I've never really been a fast food person, but put a bowl of pasta in front of me and I cave, haha.  My biggest supporter is my boyfriend, but as a man I think he sometimes falls short of understanding many of my emotional frustrations (ie swimsuit shopping, dress shopping, the beach).

What has everyone found to be the single most helpful piece of advice, suggestion, method, etc, to help them on their route?  Also, I've been thinking about trying the SlimFast diet, but I'm worried about how well it holds of hunger cravings... (what's the point in drinking a 200-calorie shake if I'm still going to go grab a bagel as well, lol)... anyone else here tried it and had it work for them?

Hi groupiegirlnj!

The single most helpful thing I've learned in the 4+ months I've been doing this is EAT MORE VEGETABLES!

Seriously. They are high-fiber, filling, low-calorie, colorful, great-tasting, and packed with healthy nutrients and vitamins and really are the cornerstone of a healthy diet. I regularly consume 10+ servings of veggies EVERY day ... along with lean protein and healthy whole grains. I've pretty much eliminated junk food, fast food, and highly-processed food from my diet.  Check out my journals if you want to see what I'm eating... it's a LOT of food!

My thoughts on SlimFast and other temporary diets.... they didn't work for me, because I wasn't willing to stay on them for the REST OF MY LIFE.  I finally (after 42 years) figured out the "secret" ... pick an eating PLAN that I am willing to stay on FOREVER... maybe not the reduced calories part (since I will eventually get to eat "maintenance" calories) ... but definitely the healthy eating part ...veggies, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins.

If you've selected a plan that you aren't willing to stay on forever, it probably isn't the best plan for you!

You can do this!

Thank you very much Molly.

I got my name from my son and his dad.  His dad loves frogs and my son was born in 1998.  Hence  mamatoad98.  I am currently not with his dad but he was my first love.  So my son would probably be nicknamed babytad.........haha   but his grandma calls him T-MAN

looking forward to a new year and the new me.

A great bit "Thank You" Molly!

This week Down.....2 lbs....yay.....

I gotta tell you, we had a big get together at work, lots of yummy food there, banana pudding, potatoe salad, brisket, pies, cobblers, ice cream...the list goes on...BUT....I ate a small slice of barbecued brisket, a tad of pea salad, and maybe a tablespoon of the tater salad and that was it!! Everyone kept trying to get me to try this....and try that...but i just told them I couldn't have those I was too full!

And i am not hungry!

I am so proud of myself for not going back for seconds....or for the sugary desserts!

Also...UPDATE...lost 2 lbs this week ..Now 298!!!!

Yay, yay, yay!!!!

=^..^= MOLLY

I had an "unofficial sneaky weigh in" (USWID) day today ... before my official weigh-in day (OWID) on Sunday and was a bit disappointed since I was hoping for a bigger loss (it was a small loss) .... but I also know that there's still Saturday (another USWID) and then Sunday's OWID.

It can be so frustrating eating 1500 calories per day (resulting in a daily calorie deficit of 1000 calories) and not seeing the 2 pound loss that I am "supposed" to be seeing, ya know? Oh well.... I can't control the scale or my metabolism, just what I eat and how much I exercise. My goal for January is 90 minutes of cardio per week, and I'm at 73 minutes so far ... so I should meet this goal this week assuming all goes as planned.

And I'm REALLY trying to drink more liquids this week, too ... I've had at least 60 ounces so far today, so I better go drink MORE.

Hope you're all eating healthy!

WEEKLY WEIGH-IN REPORT (20% LOST)

With this morning's weigh-in, I can now say that I have officially lost one-fifth of me ... twenty percent (20%) of my starting weight! WOO HOO FOR 20%!!! (It's the equivalent of three large plastic tubs of clumping kitty litter!)

Well, two weeks into 2008 and my weight loss is on track, albeit moving a bit more slowly than I had anticipated. Of course, as I lose weight my calorie needs decrease, so my daily calorie deficit decreases as well -- all part of getting healthier, I suppose! And, for the first two weeks of January I have MET my 90-minutes-per-week of cardio (treadmill) ... in fact I have gone a bit over for this week (yay!) And, as of the first week of February, that exercise goal will increase. Even though my weight loss has been slowing, my healthy eating habits are right on track because I'm learning to allow myself to feel discouraged WITHOUT that resulting in over-eating or falling off the wagon. (I just complain, whine, and rant a bit more!)

STARTING WEIGHT: 369

CURRENT WEIGHT: 295.8

WEIGHT LOST THIS WEEK: 2.2

WEIGHT LOST TO DATE: 73.8 pounds

PERCENTAGE OF WEIGHT LOST (of starting weight): 20%

AVERAGE WEEKLY WEIGHT LOSS: 3.5 pounds

WEEKS OF DIETING: 21 weeks

SPECIAL COMMENTS: My weight loss is definitely slowing down

NEXT GOAL: 294 = 75 pounds lost
