just a little question about overeating...

hey guys,

i know there are countless topics about overeating but i just need a little bit advice. i am new to all of this so please be patient with me. i would really appreciate hearing from anyone willing to help me!!!

so today unfortunately i lost all self control and overate until my stomach felt painfully full. why? i was dehydrated and didn't drink enough water today, i'm overtired, bored and have been procrastinating all day. i've barely done any physical activity all day too and i find the days i don't excercise it's harder for me to keep on track...

anyway what i need to know is will this one day of overeating really be a set back for this week? i currently weigh about 135 pounds and want to lose 12 pounds to get down to my goal weight of 123 pounds. i am trying to lose about 1-2 pounds a week - now i have overeaten is this week ruined? i would have easily eaten 1,500+ calories over my daily limit :S

feeling really stupid right now :(

please help!!

You seem to understand that dehydration can definitely lead to overeating, as can anxiety, exhaustion, boredom, etc.

No, one day of overeating will not set you back too far. Don't undereat to compensate, either--that'll backfire on you like a Pontiac. Hydrate yourself and continue to eat normally, like the slip-up never happened. And get some rest. Lack of sleep isn't good at all.

Weightloss takes place over months. You've not ruined this week by piggin out on one day.

Kotov suggested all the right things: Just move on.

you just describe my day yesterday :(

Don't worry! As long as you get back on track the next day, you're not gonna even begin to make a dent in your weight loss efforts. Just continue to eat normally, and make sure you drink enough water!

Just a thought - perhaps your calorie limit is too low. If your eating 1200 and ravenous, 1500 may mean slower weight loss but less risk of overdoing it. Or perhaps you need to eat more low cal filling foods - things with lots of fiber/water.

To specifically answer your question, remember it takes about 3500 extra calories to add a pound.  So you are ok.  You can also try to burn some of those extra calories - the day isn't over.

Even if you do slip up really bad sometimes, it's ok. No one is perfect.  Just try to figure out why, and how you can reduce the risk of it happening again.

Personally, I eat the worst (quality and quantity) when I am tired.

Your week is NOT ruined, thinking that makes everything worse. Take it day to day and be honest with yourself.
