a vegetarian or even vegan plan is ok (i'm a semi-vegetarian myself) but you should know that you need to eat at least 1200 cal per day; more if you work out; also you need to work out. AND you need to eat vegetarian protein as well (soy is an option; but there is protein in mushrooms as well and in many other sources).

a balanced diet is the key, whether you decide to be a vegan or not. the problem i do have wt my vegetarian plan is not getting enough protein so I do eat yogurt (low-fat) for that purpose.

That is just crazy. I don' think anyone here would tell you it is OK to eat only veggies. You have to have a balanced diet/exercise program to successfully loose weight and keep it off and be healthy. Eating only veggies will just make you sick and weak.

course youll lose weight, your cutting out the carbs, protein and sugars, doesnt leave you much energy left. youll lose weight but unlikely to last more than a few days, whihc is fine if you just want to drop a 2 or 3 lbs. But surely your better just trying to cut the crap and alcohol and eat a balanced diet of around 1500 cals a day

sure you can but you would have to eat 12 pounds of veggies to eat the amount of calories you need, I watched a Doctor Oz episode and this is what he had is clients eating. So if you eat 12 pounds sure, go for it!

The problem is, if I ate 1500 calories a day i would gain weight, ive never in my life eaten that much regularly...and the past three years ive been eating aroud 800 a day sooooo.....

holy...

you have a lot of eating to do, then!

Losing weight as a vegetarian should be easy, but you shouldnt eat only vegetables. If you do not eat enough calories, your body will into starvation mode. So to eat enough calories by only eating veggies, you would have to eat a large volume of veggies. So I would not recommend that you do this. Add other non-meat foods to your diet.

in a short answer to your question. no you will not lose weight eating like that.

you need to eat way more than 600 calories a day! you're currently starving your body and so of course when you put anything in your body its going to hang on to all of it because it doesn't know when it will be fed again. (which is why when you ate "alot" you gained all that weight) in order to lose weight you must eat a mininum of 1200 thats what most women's bodies need in order to function. also how tall are you? that makes a huge difference as well.

being a vegan is a serious commitment, i really hope you went to a doctor and discussed it with them first. i was a vegetarian for 6 years and a vegan for 1, its a huge commitment. its not just about vegetables, you need protein, iron, certain vitamins. and you can't just take suppliments. it shouldn't be used as a way to lose weight. it doesnt work like that, trust me there are fat vegans. if you want to be a vegan, do your research and take the time. don't look at it as a way to lose weight, its a way of life.

First down to business.  Please follow the chart below.
Second how much do you weigh?  and how old are you?

Eating 600 calories a day is against c-c PG's and c-c does not recommend eating less than 1200 calories a day, 1500 calories for a male.

It is recommended to never go below 1200 calories if you are a female, because your body will go into starvation mode and it is possible that you might gain weight, besides doing serious damage to your body. (1500 calories if you are male).

Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive. Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a  5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:

-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)

If you are under 19 you need to add 300 calories for a total of 1500 per day.  If you exercise you need to eat back at least half of the calories that you expend.  So if you burn 400 calories in a day you need to eat back 200 calories.

So if you are over 19, you need to eat 1200 calories + half of what you burn exercising.

If you are under 19 you need to consume 1500 + half of what you burn exercising.

You need to consume at least
3-5 servings of fruit,
3-8 servings of veggies,
3-6 servings of carbs,
3-5 servings of proteins,
3 servings of dairy
3 servings of  good fats
every day.

YOU KNOW 600 CALORIES A DAY IS NOT HEALTHY! it is so triggering to see people write about starving themselves. it doesn't lead to a good body. it leads to dry skin, brittle bones, osteoperosis, and ultimately death.

you CAN be skinny and eat over 1200 calories. people do it every day.

sorry have a hard time believing that youve always eaten 800cals of vegan food and your heavy enough that you need to diet. If this is the case go see a doctor now cause there something seriously wrong.

Anyone else who cuts their food right down to 800cals drops weight dramatically and its called a crash diet. Either there is something wrong with your metabolism or something wrong with your figures. Thought being a vegan i can see that its easy to keep your calories low by avoiding the dairy products etc.

Of course you would gain weight. That is because your body is starving.  You have to ask yourself what is more important to you; losing weight and being unhealthy on the inside or being healthy for life?  It takes some work, but if you really want to be healthy, we have very knowledgeable people here who can help you do that.  BTW, eating healthy does NOT include less than 1200 calories.

As spoiled_candy already stated, posting about under-eating is against CC guidelines.  However, if you are serious about asking for help and wanting to raise your calories, then we can certainly offer advice on this.  But we can't condone the kind of under-eating that you are doing.

Also i have been a vegitarian for 10 years and a vegan for one, i do not do it for dietary purposes, i have a very strong connection with animals and an unable to bring myself to eat animal products, it has nothing to do with weight.

If it has nothing to do with weight, then I suggest looking at the Vegetarian forum.  There are many vegans there as well and they can give excellent advice on what vegan foods would be good for you to eat to get your calories up.

If you are gaining weight on 600-800 calories a day you are not eating the right foods, you are starving yourself and your body is fighting back and you are not doing the right kind of exercise. Do you strength train? What does your diet consist of? As the others have mentioned you need a balance. If you don't eat meat you need to educate yourself on what you do to replace meat in your diet. Your metabolism is a mess. You need to repair it.

Consult a nutritionist and personal trainer if you can.

my uneducated guess would be that you'd lose weight but mostly water and muscle mass???

my moral vegan friend eats tofu and soy nuts as a protein substitute, as well as various beans. i don't think our bodies were meant to survive on veggies alone, as wonderful and colourful as they are :)
