How do you lose weight when you have kids??
I wanna lose 60lbs by august. Im 5'8, 26 years old and have 3 kids ages 4, 3 and 1. my starting weight is 185 and today I weight 177 and my end goal is 125, I have a very small frame. Is there any other moms out there that want to lose a lot????? I find it hard to stay focused when I'm so busy with the kids sometimes I find my self eating something I shouldnt be just because Im short on time. And it is freezing winter here now so we are stuck in the house and that makes it hard to exercise.
I wish you luck with your weight loss
It can be a challenge but it is doable. I am 43 with 4 kids, ages 9, 8 ,3 and 19 months. I started last Jan at 227 and am currently around 145 trying for those last 10 lbs. I have weights and workout DVD's that I do at home as I also live in a winter climate and can't get out, no gym handy either! I plan my meals and snacks in the morning and try to stick to just those foods. If you want it bad enough, you WILL find a way! Check out the fitness forum for workout ideas you can do at home that that don't require a lot of equip. Good luck :)
see, this is something i don't understand. kids need healthy meals, exercise, and fresh air every bit as much as their overweight moms do. where's the conflict?
Well, I'm 29, and I have a 2 1/2 year old. I still make healthy meals, but even if she is eating something I can't (ie Mac n Cheese or Chicken Nuggets), I still make myself a healthy lunch (most likely a roast beef open sandwhich) and eat with her. I don't HAVE to eat what she is eating, as long as we eat together. As for excercise, I play with her outside as much as I can, and during her nap time during the week, I walk on the treadmill for an hour. That way I can still walk without leaving the house.
I'm 5'11", large frame. I started my journey 3 weeks ago at 264 lbs. Last Monday (my weigh in days) I was down to 252. Not too bad, if I do say so myself. I'm on a 1400 calorie diet, but I never feel as though I'm "dieting". I eat pretty decent. In fact we just made a new recipe last night, that I am IN LOVE WITH! It's Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps...low fat, low cal, hardly any carbs and DELISH!!!

why on earth would a 2 1/2 year old be eating that? do you want her to be in the same position you are in 20 years?
Ok, seriously? My child can't have the occasional "fun" lunch? This is a girl who you have to BRIBE her with vegetables to finish the rest of her meal (and no, I'm not joking). I think if once a week or everyother week, she wants Mac and Cheese or a couple of chicken nuggets, along with her veggies and/or fruits, she can have them. It's not like she is eating them everyday.
Really, please don't tell me how to parent. My child is VERY healthy (is in the 100 percentile of height and 93 percentile in weight), most of the time eats extremely healthy, and is happy. What more can a parent want?
I am here for support for ME ( I KNOW why I'm obese) NOT for someone to tell me how to raise and feed my little girl. If you can't handle that, please do not respond.
i just think the crap food should wait until the kid is old enough to ask for it. soon enough, she'll be influenced by her friends and by the media, but right now, you're by far the most potent influence in her life.
there's no reason for a child that young to even know that chicken nuggets exist. her habits and tastes are being formed right now. if it's okay with you that she develop a taste for high-fat, highly-processed, nutritionally-bereft foods, that's your choice.
but don't kid yourself; it is your choice, not your daughter's.
Yes, it is my choice, not yours...let's leave it that way, ok?
If the people on here are as judgemental as you are, then I don't belong here. Have fun.
I do workout videos with my little guy. He thinks we're playing and I get a workout in. It doesn't have to be a long video, there are shorter ones like 30 day shred for example. Also, a couple of times a week I'll play a game with my son (he's 2) where we chase each other around the house for half an hour. I'm also in Canada and although it's cold most days, on the days where it's reasonable outside, I pull him in the sleigh for half an hour. It's great exercise!
I'm trying to lose the last 20, so I know how hard it can be (currently 5'7, 160lbs).
Good luck!

Hahahaha...I wish we could all be so perfect as the ones passing judgment around here! I love your reply! You go, girl!
i'm not perfect, but i wouldn't feed my dog a chicken nugget. she's completely dependent on me for her nutrition, and i take that kind-of seriously. i also don't rely on food to make her happy; happy should come from a deeper place than that.
if i want to abuse my own body - well, i'm a competent adult and i have that right. but i don't have the right to abuse somebody else's body.
yes, i'm judgmental. and i'm finished here.

Yawn. Perfection is boring.
It's good to know that you'd make a fantastic parent pg, minus the whole judgmental thing of course. Let's hope that one day your time will come and you will be able to feed your child healthy food all the time, while abusing your body in their presence! yay for you!!
good new: i won't be reproducing. my body is definitely the only one i'll be abusing.
gotta give kudos to rdonovan for not using her kids as excuses. cheers, girl.
What a relief!
if only more people would make the same decision, huh?
Yes I agree, all people like you should not have children.
