Losing finger fat?

Quote  |  Reply

Is it possible for your fingers to shrink when you're dieting? I mean, I know if there's lot of fat stored there, but my fingers were never really that big.

Anyways, lately my rings have just been falling off for no reason. I can just put my hand down and they'll slide right off. It's slightly annoying (because I'll have to go get them resized) and slightly exciting (if I am truly starting to lose something).

My rings stopped fitting when I gained weight. I got a new ring and it is now looser, but the other rings still don't ft. So Maybe makes sense

I have noticed something similar while losing weight. However, there are a number of factors that can change how your rings fit: In addition to losing fat, it is also possible that you may be retaining less water now, especially if you are eating less sodium or fewer carbs on your new diet. Finally, I know that my fingers tend to shrink when it it cold and expand when it is hot.

When I went from 240 to 190, my wedding rings didn't fit any more. That was a true testament to how much weight I'd lost.

...now if only i could lose the double chin :)

I never had fatty fingers, but since I gained weight, my wedding ring doesn't fit anymore. But even before, if I had salty meal, the water retention made wearing my ring uncomfortable. So, yes, I think the weight loss might be showing in your fingers. Yay!

I've had to have my rings resized many times.  when I gained weight, when I lost weight when I gained back weight- refuse to have it done again so loose rings are what I wear-- I only have my wedding set

Oh and I've also lost a shoe size and no longer have to wear the wides.

I've come down from 294 to 164 and at the start I had a ring that would only fit my pinky. Today that ring is happily sat on my middle finger, its amazing just how much fingers can shrink.

Yes, my rings don't fit as well either.  My plan is to get some kind of ring guard until I get down to the weight I want (and it stays that way for some time), and then I can have the rings resized.  I wouldn't mind paying for that!

yes. i only lost about 10 lbs or so over the past year, i wasn't overweight to begin with but had just gained a little extra. my rings are much looser now than before. and thats only 10 lbs, but i do think a lot of it has to do with water retention.

I lost 100 lbs once before. yes... you will lose weight everywhere. your shoe size will change, your ring size, your glasses can become too wide, i've heard even your dentures can become too big.  its amazing all the places we can hold fat and fluid!

It is kind of excited for SOMETHING to be getting looser, isn't it?

Well, it must be water retention! I stepped on my scale this morning and it says that I've lost 5 pounds in the past week, which must be water weight because I know I haven't lost 5 pounds of fat (that seems impossible, even).

Doesn't matter though; it's still exciting! :D

...your shoe size will change...

My...other shoes may fit again?  *gasp*  My cute, adorable shoes that I still hold onto even though my husband gets a silly grin when I open up the bin and refuse to get rid of them?

WOOHOOOOO!!  It'll be like shopping for stuff but getting it free!  (sort of)  Laughing

and by the way... if you read my introduction post... i'm not a know it all or whatever but worked in the health/fitness/beauty business for many years... BEFORE i had this accident and gained all this weight.

anyway.... FYI... your problem areas are the LAST place you tend to lose weight... like a person with a really big rear will usually lose in that area on the end toward the weight goal.  a double chin may not disappear until your last ten pounds.

and sometimes wide hips are just wide hips and thick legs are just thick legs.  nothing changes that.

and another thing... on here i was put on a 1200 calorie a day diet. but the way to figure that out is to take your goal weight... mine is really only 150 right now... you multiply that by 10... so 1500 is what i need to eat a day to get down to 150. if i then want to get on down to 120... 120x10=1200 so when i get down to 150 I can change to 1200 cals a day. why start off at a low calorie count and have no leeway to go down as you get thinner! I was at 255 and started out at about 1800 to 2000 cals a day and have gotten down to 211. i'm going on down to 1800 cals a day now.  makes it much easier. great way to get off of a plateau too! and if you walk an hour a day... any speed, broken up into as many intervals as you need... or 30 walking,30 workout... however... you will lose 2x as fast.

good luck to us all!!! and really... i'm not a genius... anyone who knows me can attest to that fact. lol... but i do know this business so if ANYONE wants to throw a question my way...  my email is lindatalbott@yahoo.com and i promise i'll tell you really quickly if i don't know or am unsure of the answer! i won't lead you wrong. I just don't have much of a life...lol... and would really enjoy the interaction!!!

losing 5 lbs is NOT impossible... though not generally encouraged. but if you have exercised or stayed lots more active than normal and eaten less it is most definitely possible. but fluids can do that too. believe it or not... i've gained as much as 10 lbs overnight... in water retention!!! boy does that kill the ego. but drink lots and move lots and it will go back down in a day or two. don't ever let it discourage you because of unwarranted weight gain... what's cool is if you stay on your plan... when the fluid releases you can go down all that PLUS a few more lbs in fat weight!

when i'm holding fluids... i'll eat about 1/2 a seedless watermelon. yes, it has calories but i swear i think it makes you lose more than just fluid.

and is anyone besides me on resveratrol? the substance in red wine that causes great health and longevity and weight loss? i've been on it a few weeks. seems like i have been feeling better especially considering the awful wet weather we've been having! lol

Thanks for the tip. That will give me an excuse to eat lots of my favourite fruit! ;)

I have definitely eaten less and gotten off my butt a bit more, but not to the extreme that I would lose 5 pounds of fat, I don't think. Losing water weight is a-okay with me though.

i just had another thought then i'll shut up before you get sick of my mouth...Foot in mouth.

aren't we all in the nashville area?  if so... i think it would be so cool to gather at a public place ... maybe a great salad bar ... once a month to view one anothers progress. i have scales that always weigh the same as  my doctors and can bring IF we want. we could even all put a couple bucks in a bowl and the person who's lost the biggest percentage of weight in that month gets all the money in the bowl.  if someone has the math skills for that! just anything for motivation! we could all be required to  bring a healthy recipe/an article/a picture etc to share with everyone. in the good weather we could even do it at a park... us each bringing our favorite healthy recipe for a pot luck!!!

told ya i don't have a life!!! lol

Is anyone else using the wii fit?  oh man... it is soooo cool for exercising! i've got a treadmill, an exercise ball, the Bean... dvds, cds... etc... i'm gonna be selling my treadmill tho.... i had to give my brother my exercise room! it's kinda in his way!  its electric, takes your pulse, calories you've burned/etc.  you can change the legs to make it more inclined. it's barely been used. maybe a few hours total. it was 200 a couple years ago.  it folds up where it will stand flat against a wall and will roll when up like that. let me know if anyone needs one... if not i'm gonna sell it at a yard sale. make an offer.

do any of these ideas sound doable?  i don't want to start something unless we will keep it up.

i know... anything looser is a big WOW when you are dieting!

adivagurl, that sounds like so much fun! Unfortunately, I'm a little to the west (?, lol) in Arkansas. Are there lots of people from Nashville on here?

I want to try the wii fit sooooooooooooo (yes, that much) much! It's 89 dollars at walmart, and I ALMOST bought it, but I didn't. Does it give you a good work out?

absolutely! and the choices! and i bet kmart has it... they still have layaway!!  it has aerobics, step class, yoga, weight training, walking or jogging, plus tons of games that work you out good!  it also weighs to the ounce, does your bmi, keeps up with your losses/gains/how much you exercise/your goals/ motivates you and even chastises you if you aren't back soon enough.  and that's only one program.  once you get the wii fit there are other games that use the board you stand on... i have the coolest game thats a maze... remember those plastic games you hold in your hand and try to get the ball to a certain point without it dropping into a hole? i have that on wii and you can do it with the board... leaning this way and that to travel through the maze. it is a-MAZE-ing!! sorry... couldn't help the pun!!!but it is sooooo worth the money and the wii fit comes with the board and the game i described first... not the maze. then you can buy jillian michaels from the biggest loser workouts...  YOU GUYS HAVE TO GET IT... IT IS THE BOMB!

Yeah! I saw Jillian Micheal's as one of the games. That would be awesome, as I've kind of been wanting to do the 30 day shred.

One more question from me. Can you lose water weight if you HAVEN'T been watching your sodium levels? I've basically just been focused on calories and fat.....

oooooweeee... just realized i've had my haircolor on almost an hour!!!!  better rinse it.   how do i add you as a friend Jpegg???  i'm so new on here... i get lost!  never been one for the "social" side of the web... tho' i'm a computer geek!!!  i like crashing them and fixing them...lol. i'm a weird woman.  i'll check back in a bit!!  feel free to email me at lindatalbott@yahoo.com  .... wish you were closer... i need a workout pal bad!
