I started using CC on March 3. I am 24 years old, 5'3", and started at 145 lbs.
CC recommended I eat 1400 calories per day and I have been following that very closely. I work and go to school full time, so I really don't have time to exercise very often and I have an office job so I set my profile on the lowest level of activity.
I have lost 9 pounds so far, but I am concerned that I may be losing wieght too quickly. I want to do this in a healthy way.
Before I changed my lifestyle I was eating horribly. I alot of fast food, pizza, soda, etc. I have cut all the unhealthy foods, caffiene, and processed sugar (for the most part). I have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies, lean proteins, and whole grain carbs.
Could the fact that I changed my eating habits so drastically be why I am losing weight so quickly? Should I be consuming more calories?
Anyone have any ideas?
Your body is probably dropping some water weight and letting go of some sodium. When many people change their eating habits from not good to healthy, the weight at first comes off quickly. It will probably slow down soon. A healthy rate of loss is anywhere from .5 to 2 pounds a week. You don't have a whole lot to lose, I am guessing, since losing 9 pounds would put you at a healthy BMI. Just keep eating healthy and watching your calories and sticking to the amount that is working and your body will do what it needs to do!!
Thanks for replying. :)
I only want to lose 20 lbs. I was just concerned, because I was losing a bit more than 3 lbs per week and I have read all over the forums that it is healthy to lose between .5 to 2 lbs. per week and I had been losing more than that.
Thank you for the advice! I am new to dieting healthy, since the only way I knew how to diet in high school was crash dieting. I know better now though. ;)
Sounds like things are going well for you. Congrats on losing 9 pounds. It sounds as though you've lost 9 pounds in a month instead of 8 (which would be 2 pounds a week), so I wouldn't worry. I lost 5 pounds of water and salt in my first three days! Sometimes your body just needs to detox!!!
You'll notice if your body is screaming for nutrients (lethargy is a common sign) - make sure you're listening - otherwise -just keep doing what you're doing!
Keep up the good work.
I made a mistake with the date I started. It was March 10th, which makes it 3 weeks that I have lost 9 lbs.
Thanks for the encouragement. :)
I have had SO much more energy. I wake up rested and feeling great, instead of exhausted (even when I got enough sleep).
Don't be surprise if it takes you longer to lose the last 10 lbs. than the first 10 lbs. It's very common.
That is what a lot of my friends have told me. I was surprised that it happened so quickly in the first place.
I am going to stay motivated and keep up what I have done so far. I want to actually feel comfortable wearing a bikini this year. :)
I know it may be different for women but I thought I was losing weight too fast as well, but my body felt good. I just figured why stop if im feeling good. My biggest lost was 9 pounds in a week. I started dieting on Feb 12 2008 weighing 250 and as of today I weigh 217. I know that's a lot of weight in a short time, but as long as your feeling good and no problems are occuring, i would say keep losing the weight!!!
I am def. trying to listen to my body. :)
Congrats on your success so far! That is a lot of weight to lose. You should be proud of yourself.
Mrs Skittles, this is nothing to worry over.. Really! Your body will level out. I also too lost fast within the first 3 weeks of my diet.. I lost 10lbs, and I didn't get upset over this.. I didn't even worry, because I didn't want to pack anything on.
I started my diet a year ago in March, and I have now lost over.. 55lbs... I maxed out.. Getting that dreadful plateau happen to me.. I was stuck there during the holidays, and didn't break it until the end of Feb.
Stuck at 180lbs for almost 4 months was really hard on me.. But I got over the plateau.. When I got over the plateau. I had lost 8 pounds with this new program my trainer put me on.. I didn't think it was my old way.. So yep! I went back to my old program of 1200-1400 calories a day.. Going back up in weight... Not going back to the dreadful 180, but 177. I rejoin CC and got a jump start on March 23, or was it the 24th.. Not sure, but it's pretty close..
Anyway, going back on the program she put me on at first sent be back to losing weight really fast.. My first week back I lost over 3 pounds.. Lost another one this morning putting me at 4pounds.. Your weight is weight loss, don't worry about what it was, just be thankful you lost it.. You may level out in a few days.... Just enjoy the weight loss, and CONGRATS on the 9 pounds gone..
Congrats! 9 lbs. is fantastic! And if you were eating as horribly as you think you were, then the 9 lbs. is perfectly normal. Your body is adjusting to having good foods put into it and it is acting accordingly by shedding extra pounds. Your body will adjust eventually, just as lynnhaslost said, but enjoy your weight loss right now! I wish I could lose 9 lbs. in 3 weeks
i can also add my experience that the first pounds get lost really quick and then it slowes down. i have lost the first 33 pounds in about 9 weeks, and now, in the last week, actually gained a pound even if i eat around 1300 cals, so the body just adjusts. also worth noting is that you use scale AND a tape measure.
(replying to herself) and now the scale finally moved downwards. lost 39 pounds as of today. it was 33 just a few days ago. this is quite fast after all.-)
Sheesh don't worry about losing more than 3 pounds a week I have been consistantly been losing about 3.5 pounds a week withou starvation. That stupid rule of no more than 2 pounds a week does not apply to everyone. Some just have super fast metabolisms and ability to shed of weight like that. Keep it up be happy your someone who can lose so quickly:)
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
