Pear shaped women vs Apple shaped women

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, I know you might find it odd, as ME, a GUY, would care about such a topic. But for some reason, I find most girls who fall under the categorey of a pear shaped, or apple shaped WANT to lose weight. I can completely understand why an apple-shaped girl would want to lose weight. Obviously, stomach fat is unhealthier, there is not ONE health benefit and worst of all, most guys(including myself) find this shape unattractive.

However, I can NOT understand why most pear shaped women want to lose weight.

-First of all, it is not the least bit unhealthy. As a matter of fact, there have been recent studies to prove it reduces risk for heart disease and diabetes. So as far as health goes, there is no reason to lose weight.

-Second of all, most men like a woman with curves. Large hips, and a round, plump butt is found attractive to virtually every guy I've spoken to.

I've heard excuses of how it's hard to find jeans but I see plenty of large-bottomed girls wearing jeans on a daily basis. I agree, cellulite isn't too attractive but it is better looking then large rolls of stomach fat and as I already mentioned, stomach fat is unhealthy, while cellulite on the thighs has no health risks.

I've also noticed hourglass shaped girls want to lose weight as well. My question is, are you an apple, pear(or hourglass) and do you want to lose weight or maintain your figure?

Girls of different shapes want to lose weight because it's about what they think not about what guys think.  Guys like butts and hips?  Awesome, maybe that's not what I want for myself.

But to answer your question, I'm a pear shape and I want to lose weight.  Even though I'm at a technically healthy weight and I don't consider myself to look over weight.  I have trouble finding bikini bottoms because my hips and thighs are pretty big, and I live in Hawaii where I need to have a bathing suit I can wear.

Ok I figured it was more on looks. Yeah girls seem to hate the way they look....regardless lol. However, I understand you can be an unhealthy pear i.e. 350lbs, most of the weight is in the butt, however, a large stomach too lol.

But you look fine, judging from your photo. However, Hawaii is such a competitive state as far as looks.

not all guys like big butts. there are butt men, boob men, leg men, face men, etc. there are men who like big bellys. google it. there are men who like extremely obese women. there are men who prefer amputees. the list goes on. your statement is just a stereotype.

also, not all women want to lose weight "for a man". despite what the media would have you believe. surely you realize how sexist your post is?

Wow.  As an apple-shaped woman this is kind of offensive to me.  You make it sound as if being apple shaped means being completely unsexy.  I honestly think it's easier for me to look thinner than most of my pear-shaped friends.  In fact, although I am "obese" by my BMI, most people who I have told about my weight loss have no idea that I am even a pound overweight, because of the way I carry my weight.  And when I get on the scale at the doctor's office they ALWAYS start at about 50 pounds too low before realizing they need to put the big weight up a notch.  Being an apple has a lot of benefits.

Yeah I second marasw's comment, that's pretty offensive. Telling maybe half the women on this site that most men find them unattractive? Good one. (I'm a pear btw, so this isn't spite.)

I don't really think a 250lb pear shaped woman would be considered healthy. Just because you're pear shaped, doesn't mean you don't have stomach and abdominal fat. And it has been mentioned but I shall reiterate: it may shock you but we as women don't cater our every move to what men want! I'm not losing weight because I want men to find me attractive, I want to get fit, healthy and strong.

What's more attractive, a healthy, fit apple with a normal amount of body fat, or an overweight, sedentary pear with a fat ass? Please don't class all women of a certain body shape unattractive.

While I don't find your post offensive or sexist (and maybe some of these posts are a little too reactionary?), it does seem a bit silly. Do you really think being attractive to men is all women care about?  :)  Sure, it's important to most of us, but looking good for ourselves is what really counts. Really. No, really.  It's not something we just say.

Also, I think there are some things you don't necessarily see about the different body shapes.  For example, while women who are apples do tend to carry their weight around their middle, when you say that men find them less attractive, I don't believe you're thinking it through. An apple shaped woman generally has slimmer legs, which is a HUGE advantage for looking good in clothes-- which, let's face it, is how a woman will generally be seen and "evaluated."

And you're being a bit of an idealist, I think, in saying that cellulite is more acceptable than other flaws.  Have you seen the way the tabloids attack stick-thin female celebs like Mischa Barton or Hayden Pantierre because they were photographed with the TINIEST dimple on a thigh? A touch of cellulite is the height of disgusting body flaws, apparently.  Which is unfortunate for those of us with plenty of it.

All the body types have their advantages and disadvantages.  Apples and pears both want to look their best.  For us pears (yep, I'm one), it's about streamlining our shape.  My waist is small and I'm happy with my generous rear, but I would also like to look good in a mini skirt-- something that's a lot easier for an apple shape, and something that I'm sure men look for in an attractive body.  And since legs are shown off a heck of a lot more often than stomachs are --and skinny jeans are so popular now-- with their slimmer legs I think apples actually have a distinct advantage.

Did you think before you posted this?

This would probably fit well in my "Stupid man comments" posts. Believe it or not our lives, well being, health and happiness, do not revolve around how men feel about our appearance. I know shocker isn't it!

Ugh...you are aware that there's a person under that plump backside and/or rolls of fat, right?

I feel sorry for any woman who loses weight to please a man, particularly one who seems incapable of looking past the physical. You'd be suprised, many women actually do it for themselves, their own self confidence, fitness and health.

Speaking as an apple here, I assure you, being eye candy is the last thing on my mind. I strive for a healthy waist diameter, BF% and BMI to improve my overall health, not the aesthetics of my surrounds. I am a person, not a thing for a man to cast his eyes towards.

The only thing I admire you for is honesty...either that or a reasonably articulate troll post.

I am not upset by what you said you are just speaking up for what you believe to be correct. Women need to stop being so offensive about their bodies and move forward and embrace who they are. What they don't like make it an active role to change.

Women pay to much attention to these kind of matters and take them too personal.

I find your opinion on pear shaped vs apple shaped odd. Im a pear shape with a bigger butt and wide hips and smaller legs. But im only a B cup. My friends who are apple shaped have even slimmer legs and normally have huge boobs! I think men care alot more about boobs so I would think apple shape to be alot more attractive to men. So i guess its really all about opinions and honestly not ALL men find pear shaped attractive. Theres guys at my highschool who make fun of curves and say that girl has child bearing hips and thats by no means a compliment at all!!

And I found it hilarious that you thought women lost weight and stayed fit for men. Ive been watching my weight for quite some time now and I never EVER thought about doing it for a mans attention. Sure its nice sometimes but I know I did it so I could feel more comfortable in my own skin rather than trying to impress some immature boy. But im sure some women watch their weight for men but I think a majourity of women do it for themselves over anything else.

you mean... most girls you meet want to lose weight?  especially the ones on CC forums?

shocker.  i'm sure there couldn't be a variety of personal reasons for this phenomenon!

(lucky banana girls, though. looks like they don't have anything to worry about)

Ok, let me say some things.

First of all, I NEVER said "all" guys like big butts. I just said MOST, which I''ll stick to that theory because I can honestly say in my life, I've only met a few guys who would say different. if you don't believe me, you can ask much of the younger men, maybe not so much of the older generation. I know there are some guy who like large stomachs but you can't tell me it is 50/50 in the outside world. I would say this falls under an extremely small percentage of men.

And if you read what I posted as a reply, you would see I already said how a 350lb pear would be unhealthy, so whoever commented saying "You're telling me a 250lb would be healthy" apparently didn't read what I typed.

And I read some more comments and for REAL, you people need to learn how to READ.

"Do you really think we lose weight to please men"

If you read the FIRST, and yes, the FIRST thing I typed, you would see I mentioned how carrying weight on your lower body is a health benefit. Yes, this is a FACT! Ask any doctor, go to any website and research the topic, stomach fat is definitely worse for your heart. I know heavy pears are not healthy but a 350lb pear is still healthier than a 350lb apple.

"Not ALL guys like big butts"

I'll go ahead and repeat this again, since people can't read on this site. I never one time said ALL. I said MOST. What, don't believe me? Show any 10 men a picture of a girl who resembles, let's say, Jennifer Lopez, then show the same 10 men a picture, which resembles Rosie O Donald. And.....what do you think the results will be? Just because there are some chubby chasers out there, doesn't mean they make up this "large" percentage of men.

"You mean most girls want to lose weight"?

True, but I didn't even say this lol. I just said most pear, apple or hourglass want to lose weight. Now thin girls, I guess you can say square of banana, I would imagine don't want to lose weight, but then again, even some of them want to as well.

And yes, I DID "Think" BEFORE I posted, however, you didn't READ before you posted. Revert back to elementary school and learn how to read a coherent paragraph.

Jennifer Lopez is not overweight. Rosie O'Donnell (at least for a lot of her career - not sure where she's at now) is.

Other celebrities who have been identified as apple shaped: Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta Jones, and Elizabeth Hurley.

Extra weight around the hips associated with greater cognitive decline in older women

Didn't you think maybe you would catch some **** for posting this?

I can tell you that women have various and sundry reasons for losing weight, chiefly to look and feel better. Whether she is an apple or pear,  and after losing the weight she will still be an apple or pear, just a smaller one.

Any time I have ever wanted to lose weight it was for me and NEVER a man.

Almost all the apples I have ever seen had KILLER legs that I wish I had . I must defend the apple ladies- that was a really nasty thing to say. I know you are entitled to your opinion, but that was so ugly and served no purpose but to offend.

ETA: Maintaining hourglass/pear- between categories , but anyone on cc will be any of the body types and have already lost weight or in the process, so not sure how informative your answers are going to be.

First of all: What did you expect posting something like this?

Second in response to your most recent posts:

OP"True, but I didn't even say this lol. I just said most pear, apple or hourglass want to lose weight. Now thin girls, I guess you can say square of banana, I would imagine don't want to lose weight, but then again, even some of them want to as well."

OP"I'll go ahead and repeat this again, since people can't read on this site. I never one time said ALL."

Yes you did say ALL, considering these are the four existing body types.

OP"And yes, I DID "Think" BEFORE I posted, however, you didn't READ before you posted. Revert back to elementary school and learn how to read a coherent paragraph."

Why and how could I comment on this if I did not read it and understand it? I was just trying to make the point that when posting something that could obviously offend some people you should probably expect some angry posts.

As I am sure you know, considering the topic of your post, some women are especially sensitive about their perceived appearance. They come to this site for help and support and having this thrown in their face is very discouraging.

I'm just saying to try to think things through before you post something that may upset someone.

Thank heavens I don't base my health and appearance decisions on what I think men will like! As evidenced by my hairstyle and burly shoulders...oh, and my self esteem.

Alrighty then. You said "worst of all...", which indicates that you find health benefits LESS important than being found attractive. So the first thing you said still sounds rather offensive.

"Most men...." the guys you speak to don't comprise the "large percentage" of men out there. You're comparing a clinically overweight woman to one at a healthy weight. This is not the case when comparing an apple shaped woman to a pear shaped woman. If a guy would rather a bit of pudge or a nice rack or even more shocking, a PERSON with a personality along with a body, that doesn't make him a "chubby chaser".

"Most girls who fall under the category..." on this website, or in general? I don't know about you, but I'd say that most people on a calorie counting site would have some concern with weight control, whether that be loss, maintenance or even gain.

I'm curious to know how you're assessing the figures of these females. Clothing makes a huge difference, for example, skinnys over flares can give the illusion of a rounded or diminished backside, and there's a lot you can do with soft, flowing lines and patterns which draw the eye up and down.

The people on this forum are reading your posts. Negative feedback doesn't automatically mean no-one took the time to read your post properly.

hahahahahaha

OP, it would have just been better to say

"Fat bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round"
