alright girls.

If you are on birth control, think back to when you started it.  think of your weight before you went on, and your weight since you've been on it.

has it gone up?

I've gained 25-30lbs in a YEAR since I started birth control.

I am serisouly thinking of going off of it.

I am so mad, moody, tired, hungry, depressed..everything.

I was never like that until I went on it.

help?

let me know if you are the same, or if you have had sucess with a form of birth control please tell me the name of it.

thanks so much.

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGHHH!!!!!

if i knew then what i know now!!

Contraceptive injection depo

Duration: 1year 4 months

start: 120lb

now: 151lb

been off 10days and nothing as of a period yet!! and i cannot wait to have one!!!!!!
on the pill within the first few months i gained 15-20pounds...it took so long for my body to adjust but now i've been on it for 3+years and it doesn't really effect it anymore
Ohh, goodness.  I am glad you posted about that, bunnyish .  I am going to my doctor wednesday and I was going to ask her if the shot was any better.  I am taking the pill now, and I am finding it's harder and harder to remember.  I thought wow, a shot every 3 months would be so much easier.  I was going to ask her about it, now I am probably going to tell her I am stopping birth control all together.

I don't really even need to be on it.  My bf and I dont have sex all that much to worry about, and we use condoms too, even though I am on BC just to be safe about it so condoms aren't anything new.  But I think I'd rather give up sex and be healthy!  gah!
avoid the shot! the doctor kinda failed to tell me the side effects would be soooo much, she told me 5lb max...31lb later im here trying to lose it all again and battling like crazy!
haha Bunnyish, I think our doctors fail to tell us a lot.

when I went back for a check up a 6 months later after being on the pill 15lbs heavier I asked her, "does the pill make you gain wieght."  she said, "no, but it makes you have a bigger appetitie."

I'M SORRY, but isn't that the same thing!!!

if you are more hungry, then you eat more, and you gain wieght. haha

I was like..umm..wow. ok.
haha they do make you laugh! i cannot weight to get off the thing, i told her i wasnt having the next injection and mentioned the weight gain, i said was there another method which didnt have weight gain and she said sterilzation.... im 22!!!! swiftly left!
I take a low dosage pill continuously (ie no week off) and i am finding it pretty successful. I don't think any weight gain i've had in the past 12 months (about 8 pounds, while i was eating pizza everyday and writting an important uni paper, and then a 3 week trip home to my parents who decided that they had to feed me all the food they hadn't been able to give me in the last 18months during the 21 days i was with them) is due to the b/c, although perhaps my fat distribution has changed a little (think my waist tended to be thinner before). You should really ask your doctor if there is a lower dosage possible, or if you can take it non-stop, it really cuts out any emotional problems i find. good luck!
I was on BC about 4 years ago and it did make me gain weight. Once I stopped taking it, it was much easier for me to manage my weight, so I've just stayed off, since I really don't need to be on it (The only reason I did was to appease my poor father's mind as his little girl went off to college :P)
I weighed in at 150 when I went into labor with my last child.  A few days later I weighed 135.  I went for my 6 week check up and weighed 130 pounds.  I got on the depo shot.

In a matter of 3 weeks I lost tons of hair, had major headaches, and gained 16 pounds.

The next time I went in to see the doc, I weighed 150.

I will never ever get back on that crap again.
i havent had hair loss, but i no what you mean about rapid weight gain, and once its in the sytem tuff its in and its there for 12 weeks!!

jeannie805 how long have you been off it? i been off for 10days and really want to be 'normal' again but have no idea about the return of totm... docs tell you nothing 'it varies'
This really must be what is keeping me from losing weight!

I went from total couch potato to exercising everyday anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour and a half and watching what I am eating and it's been almost 2 weeks and I have actually gained  a pound!

Bye bye birth control!

Why am I paying to gain weight?

my goodness.
i was on depo (the injection) for about 2-3 years, definatly put on some weight then, but i changed to implanon, (the implant, they stick it in your arm it lasts 3 years) and have lost some of that, still overweight though, but thats probably own to bad diet up till now
its soooo nice to know its not just me that having problems with it!! i cannot shift a single lb and when i do within a day or 2 its back sometimes with an extra one!!!!!
I just got off of the Depo shot about a month ago....was on it for 6 and a half years!  I gained a good 80 lbs while on it....I'm sure not all due soley to that.  I am hoping that the weight will start to come off now that I am not on it anymore....guell I'll have to wait and see : )  I will definitely think twice about going back on that form of BC.

BTW, Bunny ~ I have yet to get my period........
bum! 10days feels like forever, read online can take 5-6 months to have a period and 10-15 months to concieve. im not to worried about the concieveing cos im not planning on having children yet, but 5-6 months grrr
It's been a while but I chose the pill over depo because a friend of mine blew up like 30 lbs in just over a month.  I gained 7 lbs  (funny how tramatic it was then) up to when I started, never lost it but never gained anymore either. Hope this helps.

I just wanted to suggest that perhaps you look for non-chemical methods of birth control.  I was on the shot for 3 years and didn't realize what horrible things it did to me.  Then I tried the pill, and still was having problems.  I guess my body does not react well to "added" chemical components.

I got a copper T IUD and loved it.  I had it for 8 years until hubby got himself taken care of.  Never had a single problem, and honestly I loved the lack of extra hormones and stuff!

Just a thought.
thats something i was considering the iud or the merina, but wanted to have a normal cycle first and research into it a little more so that i dont make the same mistake again
I had the depo injections, i think i put on about 6 pounds in 2 years i dunno whether its to do with the injection or not, but now im off it im waiting for my tom to come back, i havnt had one in like 9 months! i just want my body to get back to normal.
I've been on Depo for about 8 years now and while I do say it helped me gain weight because of increased appetite, It also has alot to do with what I ate. I am pretty sure I would not of put on around 70lbs eating fruits, veggies, and lean meats insted of pizza and nachos. I have lost 80lbs so far now I weigh less than when I started it. So my Doctor says ya it can make you gain weight, if you don't eat healthy already. I would have to agree with her, BUT every person reacts differently.

3 DIY Tortilla Tricks
I love Mexican food—tacos with crispy shells, crunchy taco bowls and salty tortilla chips. But I could do without the extra calories, fat and sodium in the salty, often deep-fried tortillas served at many restaurants or the less-than-healthy packaged versions of these foods sold in the supermarket.
