I am a 38 female who weighs 190 lbs. How long should I expect it to take me to lose 50 lbs?
If you aim at losing 1-2 pounds a week (500-1000 daily average calorie deficit), you can expect to lose 50 pounds in 25-50 weeks.
Many people lose faster in the beginning.
Yes, that's an accurate time frame. Sometimes it's better to set smaller goals - and break it up, so that it is much easier to accomplish something more often. It feels good to hit small goals. In the end weightloss is about keepign it of and sometimes it stays off the best when you don't rush it - because your body can adapt better to the changes (ie. different metabolic rates, developing habits, etc.)
However, 25-50 weeks is correct!! Just add in some mini goals too, just incase.
I am 53. I started June 20th last year with 50 pounds to lose. I have 8 pounds to go and my expected date to be there according to CC is June 8th. So it will be about 1 year for me. This is with me exercising on treadmill 1/2 hour a day at 4.0. I eat between 1200 and 1400 calories a day and have a day about every 10 days when I go out to dinner and probably eat 1800-2000 calories (to be honest). You are younger and probably more able to exercise than me (I have severe arthritis) so you could expect to do it a little faster I think. Keep your chin up and don't lose heart. You will be there sooner than you think. I have been through plateaus and still made it.
good luck fabby40, the first 25 could come off in like 3 months and then you'll be motivated to keep going. =)
