Short girls (5'4" and under) with a significant amount of weight to lose! (40+)

Quote  |  Reply

Hey everyone,

I'm 5'0" and I currently weigh 175. I know there is another short girls thread, but most of them seem to already weigh 120.

So anyway, I need some big time motivation. Weekly weigh ins, advice, encouragement, etc....and I'm betting that some of you out there could do the same.

So how about it?

I think that you will be fine.  You seem sot be very conscious of it and don't want to sway off.

During these celebrations, stick with the veggies and the fruits as much as possible.  I know that it's hard and you don't want to offend anyone, so eat a small serving of whatever is being served and load up with the fruits and veggies.

Also, save your calories for these parties the day you have to go.  Pretty much load up on veggies all day...  VERY low in cals, but you can fill yourself up and not be hungry at the party.

I think you will be just fine!

I usually try to keep my calories around 1400 but lately I've been around 1200 if I even make it to that.  I know 1200 is the minimum, but I just haven't been hungry.  Anyway, that's been going on for about 3 days and today I"M STARVING!!!!  I also did a couple different workouts yesterday than I normally do.  I wonder if the two combined are the reason behind my hunger!!!  I'm trying to stay in control and make good choices, but I'm just so darned hungry!  I am counting the minutes until dinner.

veggies veggies veggies.... eat more!  :-)

Very little cals and you get something in your tummy!!!

As of yesterday I have read up to page eighty-one, interesting reading!

Friday we signed up for our first road race (running) in five years.  The 7.2 run is across the 25th of April Bridge and down into the main square of Lisbon.  We have done this a couple of times before but only walking, this time I am determined to run the full course.

Anyone know where “lynners” is and how her weight and health are at the moment?

@ Holsfisher; like you we do not celebrate Valentine’s Day with cards and chocolates but usually have a romantic lunch or dinner either at home or in a restaurant.  I am pro active as with all outings in being sure I have the upper hand when dealing with the meals i.e. select the restaurant or cook the meal.

When eating out my meals consist of proteins grilled whether lean meat, chicken/ turkey breast or fish such as salmon which is high in Omega 6 and very healthy.  Sitting next to the protein is a large mixed salad with olive oil and vinegar/ lemon juice with a dash of salt and pepper.  Instead of a fat loaded desert enjoy some fresh fruit.

Breakfast always including a cup of coffee and dinner ends with a nice glass of wine but the rest of the day is reserved for water with or with out lemon/lime twist which could be sliced, bagged and placed in the freezer for fast use.

@makphl; thank you for your supportive words and kind response to brown bagging my meals, it is also nice to know I am not alone.  Once the newness wears off people just mark it off as being quarky or extreme.

Brown bagging my meals was how I won the war a couple of years ago, stopping is how I lost it.

Hugs

After surfing around CC's site I found I can post my Small Protein Shake recipe simply by attaching a link, which of course is great!

http://caloriecount.about.com/small-protein-s hake-recipe-r318386

Save money, consume lots of protein while enjoying a great shake.

Hope you like it, have a nice Sunday and see you again at weight in.

Hugs

Kim, thanks for the veggie reminder.  I ended up having some...I made a salad with some fat free balsamic vinaigrette.  However, I still overate at dinner.  It was the first time in a LONG time that I ate to the point of feeling uncomfortably full.

I hope everyone had a good weekend.  I'm interested to see what the scale says tomorrow!  See you all in the AM.

Finally I had a break through with my stubborn husband.

We ate dinner last night with my MIL and she served white rice with butter, fried chicken and a salad of bananas and strawberries drowning in brandy and white sugar.  Thankfully I toted a small serving of my homemade lasagna and a large mixed salad seasoned with lemon juice and olive oil.  As I sat there smiling through my meal, I was offer no less than three times her food which I declined.

Once home and in bed my guy turns to me and says; My stomach does not feel so good, I think it was the food maybe we should have brought your food for everyone……..eureka!

@jjcteach; hope your babies feel better soon.

@vcarrie; you are doing great, is your GW your finale GW?

When I started the CC stated at 5’3 being small of bone I should be weighting 113, could that be right, sounds a bit too thin to me Wink

Have a great day!

Thank you.  For right now 135 is my GW.  I know it's the outside edge of a healthy BMI.  However, I'm more muscular and shapely than what is considered average for 5' 1''.  My lowest weight since HS was 130 and I looked skinny and was very healthy at that weight, but it was very difficult to get to, and very difficult to maintain.  Thus I put the weight back on over the course of two years.  So, this time I'm going into maintenance at 135.  Once I maintain that for a good six months I'll consider losing five more pounds.  I know this much, no matter what the BMI chart says getting below 130 just wouldn't be good for my body.

Weigh in day!

Well, it turns out I can't do basic multiplications - my scale measures in stones and pounds, and I multiplied 13 stones by 14 to get my starting weight in lbs... and put that as 180, but its actually 182, so my last weigh ins have all been 2 lbs over, so

SW - 182

LW - 179

CW - 178 (loss of 1lb)

This week has been really uneven for me - I've eaten way too much white rice, and my weight has been up and down all week, but 178 is the mid point its been bouncing around (2lbs on either side), so I'm happy with this mornings weigh in.

Goals for this week - cut back on the rice, cut down on lunches a bit to raise my deficit slightly and up my exercise (this week was another fail with the exercise bike).

Hey everyone! My name is Jess and I am totally new to calorie count. I started my weight loss journey in September of 09 at 192lbs (5'4''). I did at home Weight watchers up untill last week.

I am currently at 148lbs and wish to be around 120 when all said and done. I have no clue what all these abreviations mean on the site!

Also, the site told me I should be eating around 1700 calories a day. Is that right? How much is everyone else eating?

Nice to meet everyone! I hope I can get some support here (I don't have any IRL)

Weighing in...

I have been doing better for the most part and actually saw a loss on Monday, but Yesterday I went out to lunch with my husband (a rare occasion) and I splurged.  I skipped dinner though b/c I was still so full from lunch.... Beef fajitas from Pappasitios.  YUM!!!  So I know my weight is a little off today b/c of that.

Hello Weigh in Wednesday Buddies! Now that I'm ounces from my original goal of 130, I realize that I do need to lose 5 more to wrap it up. so I'm officially changing my down to 125. I'm going by a bunch of clothes that I used to wear in my 20s, which was weight I was able to maintain for years pretty comfortably.  The 125 pretty much lines up with what I remember anyway, although I rarely had my weight checked.

Welcome, Mrimommy!  I wrote out the what each abbreviation stands for...and since you already started losing weight, I would use  192 as your starting weight going forward. (But your turn to decode an abbreviation --what's an 'IRL'?) Congrats on the big loss already - especially over that tough holiday season!  I did WW about 8 years ago and did well, until I had a few bad weeks and stopped going...and gained it all back to no surprise. I think you will find that the general philosophy on this site is the same --eat as healthily and nutritiously as possible, reasonable goals, a focus on lifestyle change and education....and encouragement to set fitness goals no matter what your starting part may be.

As for your calories, what did you use as your 'activity' level (i.e. sedentary, light, moderate, etc.)? It may be factoring in a higher activity level. You will get varying opinions of how to figure out your calories and I don't think there is is a true right or wrong answer and more often up to how you prefer to track your daily calories and activity.

This is what I do (an I'm almost 5' 4): I set my activity level at sedentary (which I am not!) just to get the baseline of what I need just to exist and not really move.  Then I go in and manually add the calories burned each time I exercise, and add about 150-350 more calories guestimate to that total 'burn' based on how active I was that day...lower if mostly at the computer, higher if I did more walking or playing with my nieces, etc.  Not everyone likes to go in and manually add their exercise each time and prefer to have it preset based on their normal trends, but I like it this way because I get an accurate count by using a heart rate monitor and do a variety of work outs.

There's no perfect answer, just what works for you. (And you don't technically need a heart rate monitor to get a better sense of your exercise calories burned -- this site has a tool where you can manually add your activity that day, and it will calculate it based on your last updated weight....I have found these numbers to be very close the ones I get from the monitor.) You just need to choose what works for you - pre-set it at an activity level if you're pretty consistent (which is where I believe your 1700 came from since out stats are close) and DON't add each work out unless you go above and beyond the daily norm, or choose the  lowest setting and add daily activity.  take care!

I just found this link http://www.phord.com/cc on another forum post.  It seemed pretty accurate to what I've been doing..it may be helpful to you mrlmommy.

I am going to weigh in later today.  My 3 yr old was throwing up last night and I'm sitting with her until I'm relatively sure that breakfast is going to stay down.

I'll check back soon!

Ok I had a much better week. No cheating and I up my cardio fro 45 mins on the tread to 1 hr with 2 min sprints every 15 mins. I also started work out my legs hips and thighs on the machines. I feel great!! My mini goal is 20lbs lost. I got 7 to go guys.

Hello

I have been at 175 all week.  In fact for the last 2 weeks......someday I will get down to 140.

Well I have to say I'm SHOCKED at the scale today.  I'm wondering if it's because the tummy bug has been in our house since Fri so I haven't really had much of an appetite, but I checked TWICE and the scale still said the same thing.

I hope I don't gain back anything once we all start feeling better.

Hi ladies, I'd love to jump in here.  I'm 32, stay at home mom of two little ones.  I'm 5'2" and currently weigh 160.  I got serious about my weight loss after the new year.  1/1/10 I weighed 165, so I'm down 5 lbs and it feels so good.  My goal is to be down to 145 lbs by the middle of May.  That's a 1 lb./week weight loss which should be totally obtainable.

I've been counting calories here on CC and hitting the gym 5 days a week.  i do 40 minutes on the elliptical trainer and burn 400 calories.  I'm going to start the 30 Day Shred this weekend to mix it up a bit too.

I've enjoyed reading everyone's journey!

Hi zefroim,

We sound a lot alike.  I am also 5'2, will be 29 next week, and am a stay at home mom to two baby girls ages 1 and 2.  I am currently 166ish.... my goal weight is 120.   I started my journey back in October at 182.

Welcome zefroim.  It's nice to see a few fellow SAHMs on here.  I was just trying to explain the "job" of SAHM to my almost 8 year old today.  It's 24/7 from the time they are born!  I've only had 2 weekends away from them since he way s born.  My other kids are 4 and 6.

When I first started preparing different meals for myself and making time for exercising the kids got mad because it took time away from them.  Now they realize that it's good for all of us because mom is happier and healthier...but I'd still love a few days off time

And weight in day.

Woo-hoo broke 140.  Honestly was starting to think I would never see my weight drop below 140 at all, even a little bit. So, obviously I'm very happy.

Jodi - -woo hoo - happy dance for your re-entry into Onederland - especially since the Plague has descended on your house!!

Vcarrie - new decade...and you're sooo close - congrats!

Holsfisher - how fun that a math mistake brought you solidly into a new decade as well - nice!!

Cubanquet - you're creeping up on a new decade celebration as well...I'm a big fan of celebrating the mini-goals. What are you planning for a the 20 pounder mark?

Zefroim - welcome and congrats to the good start in'10.

I went to the doc's yesterday for a cold that I thought was turning into an upper respiratory infection and they ASKED if I wanted to get weighed. What?! This is the very first time I've been at a healthy BMI since starting with this doc 7 years ago and I've never been asked - only told to hop on the scale and proceed to cringe. I know its stupid, but I said YES! just because I wanted it on the record - just a little mental thing but I really wanted to see it written down in my file!
