Shorties 5'1"--how many calories?

We all know how extra hard it is for us little ladies to lose weight. Curious...how many calories do you eat to lose? To maintain?

Extra curious if you're under 120-125 lbs...

Hmmm, Mochi, don't you realize that you don't believe in starvation mode but you are a classic example of it?! There is no reason a young highly active teenage woman such as yourself should be GAINING on 1500 cals a day (unless you have an undiagnosed medical condition). I have roughly the same stats as you and I lost 30 lbs eating 1500 a day and maintain my weight on 2000 and I am nearly 20 years older than you. I think you should give starvation mode a second thought.

nycgirl, how did you lose the wieght? What sort of activites did you do? I am 5'2 and weigh 135 pounds, im a size 8 and would love to go down to a 6 or 4.

Good thread, and I agree with all the previous posters - it is SO hard to lose weight when you're short.

I eat (now) about 1300-1600 calories a day, the most I've "allowed" myself to eat in a long time. I struggled with my body in highschool, and ate around or less than 800 calories for about a years period. Yes, I lost weight, but then I steadily started gaining when I upped to 1000 calories...then kept gaining when I went  to 1200...so now I'm trying to exercise my butt off, and eat a fairly normal amount of calories for a 5'1+1/2 inch, 130 lb 20 year old female. Saw progress for a couple of weeks, but that progress has recently been erased and not through any calorie changes that mathmatically add up to more than 3500 calories :\

I'm still sticking with it. I'm trying to focus on my athletic ability/improvement more than my appearance.

I'm 17 and I'm 4'10, I used to eat like 3,000 calories (ridicoulous!) and not gain weight but last year I started to get quite chubby and i realized just how badly I ate so now I eat healthy and I eat about 1,300 calories a day on average (not counting weekends)

right now I weigh 95 pounds, i try to exercise but usually I wont have time :/

I literally counted calories and used the tools on this site. I counted 1500 cals a day from May thru September 2007 and lost like crazy. Some days I ate 1200 and some days I ate 2000 but I never ate less than 1200 and most often stuck to 1500. I didn't do any major exercises just tried to up my general activity - like I walked up stairs instead of elevator and took walks whenever possible.

I am 41, 5' tall and currently 138.  I started in December at 152.  From Christmas to Feb 1 I did nothing to lose weight.  But Feb 1 or so I realized I had lost 4 lbs and that gave me enough incentive to lose more.

I was pretty sedentary then and started by trying to eat 1200 cals a day. I lost 3 lbs the first and  the second week. I got really excited and started a 3 mile a day walking program. I usually got in 5 days a week.

Over the next 6 weeks I lost only 2 lbs.  I thought the problem was that I was not being consistent with my diet.  I had cheat days on the week ends.  But I had also added 1/2 hour of calisthenics to my day 3 days a week.

I had a sudden epiphany when I realized that my BMR was 1350 (or so).  These last 2 weeks I have not been tracking my calories very closely.  On the days I have done so I have logged anything from 1400 to 1800 calories.

I have maintained my work out schedule but in the last week I lost 1.5 lbs!  Yay me.

I really think, for me, I was not eating enough.  I am going to keep at my current method of not counting calories but making better choices and stick to my work out schedule. 

My goal is 110-105 but I am not stuck at  this number.  All of the excercise has made some dramatic differences in my body already. 

I did not measure my body when I started and I really wish I had.  But to give you an idea of the changes - I went from a 36 bra to a 32.  (thankfully my cup size is the same).  I did measure my hips and waist a few weeks ago and at that time my hips were 43 and waist 33.  I now measure 38 hips and 29 waist (wowser!)  I have no idea what they were when I was at 152.  HUGE I am sure!

I have lost almost 2 pants sizes (the 8s are stil a little too tight).  But the biggest change is my stomach.  I was at the point where i could not button the bottom button on my XL shirts.  I have broad shoulders so I know i will never be smaller than a L shirt - but now the Ls are baggy everywhere except the shoulders. 

i still have a lot to lose but i am encouraged to keep going. 

 

 

I am 20, 5'2 and currently at 101 lbs.. i have been on this since feb but have been trying out different mixes of exercise with diet..i have tried out the low cal (1000) and high intensity workouts..i went down to 95lbs but looked terrible n i had no energy and was dizzy and hungry all the time..:( so then have been trying out upping my cals and trying to do 3-4days a week exercise. I pretty much have been maintaining at 1300-1600 a day.. it has its ups and downs depending on the day!

My weight seems to stay at 46-48kg, 45 kg was my lowest. yuck.

trying to concentrate on getting toned and fit so not really bothered by whats been coming up on the scale.. starting fitness pole dancing in 2 weeks:) so that should make some difference to my shape:)


nice to read thru this forum, its hard to listen to people tellin u to eat 2000+ cals a day when they dont understand that most of us shorties just simply do not NEED that much.. (wish i did!be cake city for me!!:P)

It is so great to see all of you on here.. that are short like me and can't just eat n eat like everyone else. It helped me to get a personal trainer that is tiny like me, because she explained it like "we are little so we only need a little"  I'm 5'1" when I started on here I was 132lbs, and now I am down to 118lbs. I would like to get down to 100-105lbs, but it has been slow going for the last month or so, trying to get motivated to go to the gym.

But keep up the good work shorties!

I am 5' 0", 34 years old, and currently weigh 130 pounds.  This is high for me.  My goal weight is 110 pounds.  I was on track and cross country all through high school and college, so pretty much ate whatever I wanted and maintained 95-100 pounds.  After 3 kids and not running as much or at all, I have yo-yo'd for a while.  I have tried low calories of 1000-1200 cal/day, excercising about 3-4 days a week and lost.  But I always felt hungry and ended up binging and frustrated, gaining the weight back.  I am starting to train for a half marathon in May and going to try 1500 cal/day.  Hopefully this will leave me feeling less hungry and still seeing weight loss.  I am planning to run 4 days a week on this plan with longer runs on Sundays, so I may up my calories to 1700 on those long run days if my body feels like it needs more.  Any suggestions or is this amount of calories about right?  Thanks...this thread has helped me a lot to decide where to start again.  

I know this is late. Im 20 years old im 5'0 and i weigh 117. lbs. My goal is 105 lb. I see that I'm making a big mistake i started eating less and just left eating around 800 to 900 calories daily and i work out from 3-6 times a week for two hours straight i dont plan on slowing down. But I do think i have to eat more in order to lose the weight.

I'm 19 years old, 5'1" tall, and weigh 119 pounds. My goal weight is to be 110 pounds by January. I used to weigh 132 pounds five months ago. I try to eat within 1500-1640 calories a day to lose .5/1 pound a week. This is paired with 45 minutes of moderate exercise 5-6x a week. Before when I was on a strict diet,  I only consumed 1200 calories a day, but I didn't lose any pounds. It wasn't until I increased my intake that the scale started to move again.

I'm 20.

I am 5`2. I used to be 133lbs! I am now around 112-115lbs! 

I lost that weight unhealthily. Reducing my calorie intake to below 1000. Which is a BAD idea! Don't go there. Then I increased it to 1300 and still lost weight.

The past 2 weeks I have gone way over 3000cals! eating junk food :S The bad points to going back to Uni life! 

Starting tomorrow I'm going back down to 1300 cals to lose an extra few pounds!
