*CLOSED TO NEW MEMBERS* Shorties Club
*EDITED December 17, 2012*
I'm Sara. I know there's a bunch of "short girls" clubs but I can never seem to find one that fits. It's always "5'4" and under with a lot to lose (40+)" or something too specific, so I decided to create my own group! This is for shorties (like, true, honest, really-freaking-short people... 5'3" and under please) to vent, trade advice, or just chat. Here are my stats:
Gender: Female
Age: 22
Height: 4'11"
SW: 140
HW: 145
CW: 125
GW: 115
It amazes me how people so close in height can have such different goals and plans, so I'd really like to share.
Our weigh-ins are every Wednesday morning, if you would like to participate in that. The scale isn't everything, though!
Um, turns out my abs are already mega sore! Just felt in when I got off the couch after posting on here lol.
@nmward- wow that's such a cool degree! I think you mentioned you are in the DC area? Perfect place for that kind of job. Do you know where you are working after you graduate?
@joaree- good luck with trying to get your partner to eat healthier. I think once you make he realize healthy food can be quite delicious he may succumb. And I will answer on sara's behalf- cinnamon toast crunch is one of the most amazing cereals out there. Its little crunchy squares covered in cinnamon and sugar and just as delicious as it sounds hahaha. And good luck with the burpee goals, let us know how they are coming
@nkfromm- hope everything is in check after the accident!
@sally- have fun at step class. You are really inspiring me to get back into running. I go in and out phases of loving/hating it but it really does keep me in shape.
@sara- sore is always a good thing! You are always so busy, good luck with the day
For me- I actually made it to the gym and did 30 mins on the eliptical, 15 on the bike then lots of abs and some arms. But went out to lunch after and had a great healthy salad but then went home (I'm currently housesitting) and noticed my uneaten Easter basket and had like half of it plus Irish Soda bread my mom had just made. We did go to the beach for a walk after which is 2.5 miles but I still feel guilty and rather sick. Might pass on a big dinner tonight
@joaree. I have been married 18 years and my husband is the exact same size he was when we met. It can be so hard to watch him have a few beers and chips and dip. It doesn't change him at all. He is really supportive of me though. That is nice.
Speaking of fun snacks. But really healthy tortillas and cut them into chips. Spritz the with a little water and then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar on them. Bake them in the oven until crispy. Super easy and you know there is no butter. If you make them big enough you can put sliced fruit in top for a good breakfast. Strawberries are the best on them.
Have a good night!
Burton thats a good point. There are a lot of healthy foods he likes that we've eaten a lot in the past. I think I just need to reintroduce these into our pantry/fridge to remind him how good they are. I can usually be satisfied on pretty basic (some would say boring) foods but he really needs a bit more excitement for his tastebuds. Good on you for making it to the gym by the way.
Nkfromm, that's pretty incredible. Is he good with portion control when it comes to things like chips though? And that's a great idea about the tortillas - could probably do that with pita bread too. And I think snacks are my partner's biggest problem. If he sees a big bag of chips on special or three chocolate bars at a reduced price when bought as a multi-buy he will buy it/them and they will be gone buy the end of the night or at least the next day.
@Sally - Yes, it's so relieving. The only other things on my schedule are all over April 21st! A couple more days at my internship, two interviews, four finals, and my family coming in town for my graduation Saturday. How was Wk3 Day3?
@Joaree - Cinnamon Toast Crunch is a cereal! It's definitely not the best for you but I feel as though if I stick to the serving size it's fine, especially if I throw in almond milk and fruit. Your workouts sound so intense! And your food paragraph is making me want to get out to the Farmer's Market tomorrow morning! Love being sore. :)
@Burton - A week from today I won't be busy at all! It'll be glorious haha. The leftover Easter candy has been stalking me, too.
@nkfromm - Glad to hear you're doing okay! And that snack sounds great.
No more classes, EVER, so today I'm going to go into work early and get a lot knocked out before quitting time. Probably 10-6 or so. I haven't decided what I'm packing for lunch yet, or what I'm doing as my exercise today. Kind of up in the air!
I had the most delicious breakfast. I still get HungryGirl emails and put my own spin on them depending on what's in the pantry. The recipe was for Apples 'n' Jack, a spin on grilled cheese. I used one slice of reduced-fat Colby Jack, 1/4 Fuji apple sliced, and one whole wheat sandwich thin, cooked on medium heat with PAM. Yummy and filling and different!
@Joaree- Good luck with the burpeees!
@nkfromm- I am glad you are okay!! How is your car?
@Sara- I am sooooo jealous that yesterday was your last day. I have three weeks left.
@Burton- Yeah, I live in DC. One of the reasons I chose the school that I go to was because of the location. There are a lot of great opportunities here. I work for the government now so I am just going to stay in DC and work in my current position for a few years. IN about 3-5 years I hope to begin working in federal law enforcement.
@nkfromm- those sound yummy! At school they had a mexican place on campus that made cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips but I'm sure they were fried and terrible for you. Might have to try those with a good whole-wheat tortilla in the near future. And glad to hear you are back to normal after the accident.
@sara- yay no more classes! That Hungry Girl breakfast sounds awesome. I love watching her on the food network. She mad her version of apple pie in a mug and in the microwave and it looked so yummy I really want to try it out
@nmward- thats so cool! I live right outside of new york but I am trying to move to the dc area. My best friend and roommate from college is from Maryland but right on the DC border and she keeps trying to get me to move to DC but finding a job is the hard part. Maybe I will be down there soon! And I am definitely looking at government jobs too. How did you go about getting yours? Or did school help you?
For me: I was rudely awoken this morning at 6:45 by the dogs I am housesitting for so I am kinda tired. After dealing with the dogs (4 of them) I used the treadmill in the basement. I walked for 30 mins constantly changing the incline so it was a decent workout. Then did some quick abs after and for breakfast had an omlete with cheddar made from fresh eggs, yeppp the family I am housesitting for has 6 chickens! Then I have work all day today from 1-9 so will try to pack something healthy and try to stay away from the cookies.
Wow, sounds like everyone is doing well.
Me. I'm ready for the weekend. I did good on wk3 day3, a little scared of wk4 they introduce 5 min runs. But I keep telling myself, I can do this.
I did the run at lunch, (I didn't leave a rest day in between) then went to step class after work. My legs were killing me when we were done, but I feel good this morning. I've done my lifting for the day already and then a full rest day tomorrow.
@ nmward and sara it's great that both of you have jobs to go to after graduation. My little brother graduated last spring and it took him about 6 months to find something he wanted.
@sara that breakfast sounds great. I'll have to try that, sounds like a good lunch too. And all of the other recipes sound good too.
@burton and nkfromm. I can totally understand. My hubby is thin and he eats like a pig. He will gain weight, but he can lose like 10 lbs in a week, without trying. I wish I had his metabolism. He's got high cholesterol, so he's pretty good about not eating junk, but he's not good at portion control. He thinks just cause something is low fat, he can eat the whole bag, box etc. I'm lucky I have pretty good will power. I let myself have the snacks, but just a taste. And the easter candy is haunting me too. But I've allowed myself one small pc per day.
@burton- That would be awesome if you came to DC. Maybe we could meet! For my job I just handed in my resume when a recruiter from the agency came to my school. I got a call about 4-6 weeks later. I definitely lucked out when I got my job. Just keep looking on usajobs.gov and apply as much as you can. Right now is a really good time to apply. The gornment is not in a hiring freeze and agencies are trying to complete background investigations and hire as many people as possible before the end of the fiscal year in October. They need to use up all of the funding they were given for the year so there is always a crunch during the second half of the year. What type of work do you do?
@Sally- I'm glad you seem to be enjoying c25k and NROLW. How is it doing both of them? I have been doing NROLW when I get a chance, but I haven't been pairing it with cardio because my only free time to work out is during my lunch breaks and I don't want to be sweaty for the rest of the work/internship/school day. Since I have hardly done any cardio since January, I think I might want to try a running program to get back into it.
@nmward it's going really well. I do the running on my off day from lifting. I do the lifing in the AM before work (only on stage 1) and then I do the running on my lunch breaks. So at least twice a week, I do nothing on my lunch break. Which is nice. I'm hoping I can keep doing the lifting in the morning. I hope when I get to stage 2 it's about 30 to 40 mins like stage 1.
Sara, yeah portion control makes all the difference :) The workouts are pretty intense - I'm loving it! I push myself really hard because it's only a short time and I wanna feel the burn. That must be a surreal feeling not having any more classes! I bet you will really benefit from some time off.
I put some pics up of my new workout pants which arrived yesterday - that's what my failed link from the other day was about. Getting ready to do an uphill hike with the boyfriend today :)
@nmward - I remember saying "two months until I gradute!" and the time FLEW by. Be strong haha the end is near!
@Burton - Yeah I've had that, too! It's delicious. I was rudely awoken this morning at 6:45 too! How weird. Some kids were going to the before-school program at the elementary school across the street and decided it would be funny to slap my apartment window (how lucky that they chose mine out of the 6 that face the street? Jerks). OMG how are fresh eggs? I've never had them!
@Sally - Good for you! :) Your workouts sound on point. I would love to say that I have a job but unfortunately it's just interviews at this point. I'm crossing my fingers though!
No workout for me today. Worked 10-6:15 and came home and ate dinner, and I'm on a new birth control where I only get shark week every three months so I'm VERY crampy right now because it's the first time I've actually gotten it in a longggg time. I have weird cravings, like I NEEDED edamame with tons of salt and then I NEEDED a mini Reese's cup haha oh well.
@sara- omg fresh eggs are so good! I don't really know if there is a true difference, maybe they are healthier because the chickens aren't fed chemicals and such, but to me they are much more flavorful and the yolk is definitely brighter. Hahaha about the kids! I live across from a middle school but usually I am dead to the world when they are getting to class haha
@nmward- thanks for the tips and glad to know the gov't is still hiring. I have been to that website before but I just need to constantly check it for new postings. It would be so cool if I ever do move to dc and we could meet. Finally put a real person to the picture and postings lol
@sally- wow it seems like you are really into the fitness lately! that's awesome. Don't be intimidated by week 4 of C25K. Running is not easy and takes a while to really build up to it. Just keep telling yourself a little farther and you will do it, I believe you can
So excited for the weekend! I am heading up to school for the weekend (until monday). Tonight is semi-formal and then tomorrow me and my best friend from college are staying with our other friend who is a senior and are having "sunday funday" aka day drinking. I know the amount I will be drinking is not good for my diet/exercise plan but I only get to visit school rarely and this will probably be the last time because everyone graduates so soon so I am just going to have fun but eat responsibly to make up for all the drinking hahah
Have a good weekend everyone!
I ran three miles this morning. It felt great! I have a fun day of shopping planned with girlfriends and after the accident this week a day out with friends sounds great! I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.
@joaree. I love new workout clothes.
@burton - I bet they're amazing. So jealous. LOVE Sunday Funday haha here in town we have "Reggae Sunday" where a local restaurant located on the water/marina has live reggae music and drink specials from 3-7. It's beautiful and so nice to stick your feet in the water and have a yummy drink.
@nkfromm - That's EXACTLY how my boyfriend is! So frustrating. He's 6'3" and the lightest I've seen him was 180 (TOO skinny, he was doing Insanity one summer and lost some muscle because of all the cardio) and the heaviest I've seen him is 200, but on a 6'3" frame 200 looks nice, especially since most is muscle. Three miles is great - good job!
Nkfromm, I hope you have a great shopping trip and find some good bargains and I hope you're recovering well from the shock of the accident too.
Eating half portions is a good idea by the way. I should remember that next time I want a treat.
Yesterday is one of those days where you wish you could press rewind and do things a litttttle differently. Day started off great, then went to our final sorority event of the year: beach battles. You do obstacle courses and relay games and the winning group gets a trophy. Afterwards we were all feeling nostalgic that the seniors would no longer be at sorority events, so we all headed over to Reggae Sunday, basically one big day-drinking fest with live music and really good drinks. I was going to have a drink or two and then go home and have dinner. Instead, I ended up having five drinks, having a PB&J at my friend's followed by at least two servings of Tostitos, followed by a handful of M&Ms, a package of those little cheese cracker sandwiches, and a slice of cheese pizza with Harry when I got home. I just feel gross, but college happens. Better day today!
Also, it's good to have you back, Sara!
Yayyy anam! That's awesome to hear. :) Happy for you.
@sara- Love sunday funday and yours sounds amazing hahaha. My whole weekend was a wash with my diet. Lots of alcohol involved and not so good food choices. But its okay I got to spend the weekend with some of my best friends and tomorrow (I'm still at school btw) is a new day.
@anam- that's amazing news! I have fallen off the bandwagon as well with good eating and exercising since losing my job a month ago but I saw pictures of myself from my semi-formal and noticed how heavy my face is looking. The reality of that has really it hard so things will be changing tomorrow.
I am still at school with my friends, but already made some good choices. We went to Bagel Zone for breakfast and I got egg whites instead of a bagel which are so yummmy from there. I also plan on walking all around campus today to see all the new buildings and construction going on so that will at least be some form of exercise. Hopefully I won't make anymore bad eating decisions today and tomorrow I am going back to clean eating and working out. With the summer coming I really need to kick myself back into shape :)
Hope everyone had a great weekend!
